One of the reasons for purchasing this item was to be able to see detailed images of what you just shot to ensure that focus is spot on. If you're using anything other than Jpegs forget about it. If you click on the image thumbnail to get a larger image the computer hangs. If you want to shoot in RAW, you have to set your camera to shoot RAW+Jpeg and only click on the Jpeg thumbnail. You're better off just having your camera tethered to a laptop using Lightroom.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
WiFi that works
About Me Professional
Very useful on a job where you want to nail your lighting and exposure and find yourself in unfamiliar surroundings. See the first few shots in detail, not on the back of your camera
Understated design - excellent product
I use the CamRanger when I am working alone and need to shoot multiple exposures, lighting the scene in different ways for each exposure. I also use it for timelapse photography. The packaging and design of the camranger is basic but it has so many uses. I would prefer if the most recent exposure came up full screen on the ipad rather than always clicking on the thumbnail first, but that is the only negative I have found so far.
Great piece of kit

About Me Semi-Pro
I am developing my business to include light painting techniques and I saw the CamRanger used on a shoot. It was a revelation as I could use an iPad or iPhone to control my camera remotely whilst walking around with my flash and check the image on the portable device rather than having to return to look either at the back of the camera or on a tethered laptop/computer. I've even used it in a studio situation and allows you to review the image just taken on my iPad and make sure everything is as it should be. You can also show the image to other people easily.
Excellent Piece of kit

I bought this to fill a number of functions, first to add a live view to my 7D, secondly I do a lot of fishing on my own and needed something to help with Self Takes. I also wanted to try this with a feed station set up. Overall this has performed very well, the only downsides are the delay in the shutter firing but after some practice this works OK, and the range, as long as you are in plain sight it is fine,

Well worth investigating if you need wireless connectivity
About Me Semi-retired Professional
CamRanger Wireless Camera ControlI've been looking for a wireless camera control system for some time as I've found shooting 'tethered' to be very restrictive and have considered a number of the available options to overcome this issue. On one of my YouTube 'surfing' sessions I came across a video featuring Mike Kelley and his Architectural & Interiors work, I noted he was using a wireless system to control his camera to produce his superb 'light painted' images. After some research, I felt the CamRanger might just be what I needed and it offered a number of extra features I hadn't seen on any of the other devices I'd checked out, like 'StackShot' (image stacking) very useful in small item product photography and Macro work, time lapse, HDR and so on.I ordered one and it arrived promptly safe and sound having been well packaged by Wex to withstand the rigors of the postal system. The free 'App' was downloaded and installed on both my iPad and iPhone, the unit was charged via a USB port and registered. Unusually I spent some time reading the downloaded PDF Instruction manual to familiarise myself with its operation and then set it up ready for action – the manual was very comprehensive and straightforward! I have now used the CamRanger on a number of shoots in combination with my Canon 1D MkIV and a 7D both in the studio and on location. To date the CamRanger has performed extremely well and has saved me a great deal of time, no moving backwards and forwards to 'chimp' the shots, plus it's done away with the need of an assistant in many situations. The CamRanger has provided me with the freedom of movement, the flexibility of camera control I needed plus many other useful features some of which I have still to explore. If the qualities you need are: wireless connectivity, simplicity, flexibility together with a high degree of control, I would highly recommend you take a close look at the CamRanger.

It does what it says on the tin, and is easy to use and reliable. But the wifi connection is a little slow for "instant" feedback on what you have just shot. great alternative to the Nikon wifi adapter for D800 which is a wicked price
