Save £5, Was £704 The Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens is one of the prestigious L-series of Canon lenses. The lens features Image Stabilisation, the first macro lens in Canon's EOS line up to do so, making it easy for photographers to capture amazing close-up shots without the need for a tripod. The Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens is a medium telephoto macro lens and features up to 4-stop correction. Low friction ceramic balls support the moving elements and provide smooth movement, whilst the hybrid IS corrects shift movement and angular movement - a benefit of up to 2 stops at 1.0x magnification. More
The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, representing the best in precision-designed EF optics. L-series lenses combine superior performance with superlative handling, and are resistant to dust and moisture.
Hybrid Image Stabilizer
The new Image Stabilizer designed specifically for inclusion in a macro lens. It is able to correct lens shift movement as well as the angular movement that most IS systems can correct. This provides 2-stops of correction during 1.0x magnification, increasing to 3-stops at 0.5x magnification and 4-stops during normal shooting.
Ultra low dispersion (UD) lens element ensures high image quality
A UD element within the lens design effectively removes chromatic aberration. This allows for excellent image quality with high resolution, high contrast and excellent colour reproduction.
Focus limiter switch
To enhance the photographer’s use of the lens, it is fitted with a 3 position focus limiter switch. With limits for close up subjects, distant subjects and all subjects, the user is able to increase the autofocus speed making quick shots a possibility.
Beautiful background blur with 9 blade circular aperture
A circular blade aperture helps to create attractive, even background bokeh when isolating subjects at wide apertures.
Fast quiet autofocus
The ring USM (Ultrasonic Motor) drives extremely rapid autofocus with near-silent operation. Full time mechanical manual focus override is available without having to switch out of AF. The lens offers a minimum focusing distance of 0.3m.

First Class Macro Lens
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Comments about Canon EF 100mm f2.8L Macro IS USM Lens:
This lens is a delight to use. The results are pin-sharp, with good bokeh (subject to photographer's failings). The lens has renewed my enthusiasm for macro photography.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

It's great- read on!

Fabulous lens and especially natural and very revealing for portrait work. Also stunningly sharp with natural colour rendition in macro for plants and insects. Lovely to play with and get artistic, blurred foregrounds and backdrops in landscape mode. Need to be patient with the auto focus. Very pleased I bought this. In constant use along with my Canon 20mm prime.
Bought for close up detail shots in weddings and hands/feet of newborns.

Better than expected.
I was sceptical as to how much better it could be than the 60mm Macro lens from Canon but decide to go for because i already have the 50mm 1.4. So Far i have only been using it for handheld Macro shots and the image quality is outstanding, almost pin sharp so i can't wait to try it on a tripod. It is slow to focus as unless you are pointing directly at what you are shooting it will jump around but its not a big issue.Superb images, great construction and a good looking lens. glad i went all in for it.

Focusing can be slow if you expect the lens to go from one extreme to the other of its focus range. Therefore it is better to adjust focus manually to near the focal range you are working at before using auto focus. Then it is quite quickManual focusing is better at the macro distances.

Proved to be my best Lens

About Me Professional
Now this one lens that I have always wanted. I have found that not only is it a first class telephoto lens, but it is a very useful lens for portrait work. When you don't want to get too close to the subject, give them space. Yes it's expensive but with canon you get a fine lens. It's worth it.Getting it from WEX is good, receiving it the next day. Extremely well packed as you would expect. Please see two images below taken with this lens on my Canon 5D ll.

Brilliant macro lens.
Brilliant lens, though I was saddened to find soon after I bought it from WEX that there was a cashback feature offered which could have saved me over £100. Disappointed that WEX did not tell me that the cashback deal was coming soon!Free next day delivery would have been nice too!

Stunning - and not just for macro
I bought this lens for taking all the "details" photos at weddings, and for newborn photography. It handles these perfectly, but I find I'm using it a lot for portraiture, and for commercial work. The detail is astonishing. The colours are beautiful. The bokeh is magnificent. Anything you throw at it, it laughs as it delivers perfect shot after perfect shot. I was dubious about handheld macro, but the IS seems to be very capable, and even my shaky hands can nail difficult shots with ease. In fact, my last commercial job, I didn't use the tripod at all, which was both liberating and time-saving. Overall...very impressed and would recommend to anyone.
Very high quality lens. I already owned the non-IS version, which is an excellent lens itself, and was reticent about spending the money on this upgrade. It was worth it, and on a 5D it doesn't feel anywhere near as heavy as some reviewers make it sound.
More flexible than the non 'L'
About Me Semi-Professional
I agonised between this and the 100mm f2, was it really worth so much more for IS? In the end IS, better bokeh, weather sealing and yes, the 'L' won through. The lens is good for portraits as well as macro and has delivered so far, and since the image stabilisation is so effective, I find I get away without a tripod more often than I expected.I don't necessarily think it's £300 better than the non-L lens but I didn't want to buy the cheaper lens only to feel the need to upgrade later. All in all, very happy with my purchase.
