The Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens features ultra low dispersion (UD) lenses that correct colour abberation for high resolution, high contrast images, with the addition of Super Spectra coating, which effectively reduces ghosting and flare for superior image quality. Beautiful bokeh is the setting for your subjects, which stand out perfectly as a result of the nine-blade circular aperture. The silent, high speed ring type USM Autofocus motor quickly achieves focus, whilst the three position focus limiter tailors the focus system range to the desired subject.

Sitting within the L-series of Canon lenses, the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens features dust and water resistant seals. Sitting ahead of the EF 100mm f/2.8L USM Macro, the new lens supports a full range of accessories including the Tripod Mount D, Macro Lite adapter 67, Lens Hood ET-73 and EF12 II and EF25 II extension tubes. The tripod mount can be attached to the lens without the need for an adaptor, enabling quick portrait or landscape switching without having to reframe the camera. The MR-14EX and MT-24EX speedlites can be attached using the MacroLite adaptor.

Only taken a limited number of shots due to the weather, but already had my best ever macro shots of some hoverflies. (upgraded from respected 150mm f/2.8 macro compatible lens) I very rarely use a tripod except for moths taken from my moth trap so IS is a big plus for me.

This was my first prime lens and it is abosolutely stunning and worth every penny.

The focus is quick and sharp and is great for macro, action/sports and portraits.

The attached picture was taken hand held at about 30-40cm, without great light, it's been cropped but the detail is fantastic.

I purchased this lens after lots of consideration to cost. All I can say is, it's probably the best [$] I've spent on camera gear ever! I started a 365 project ([@]) at the beginning of March and this lens has opened the realms of possibility when it comes to ideas and has helped me immensely at times when I've been stuck for inspiration. It offers a whole new level to what is possible. The focal plane is as narrow as 1-2mm at macro distances, so a tripod is definitely required for true photomacrography. If you're even considering buying this, just do it! I promise you, you will not be disappointed.
