£45 Cashback. The Canon EF 100mm is a medium telephoto lens with a macro feature for 1x magnification. Fluctuations in spherical aberrations caused by focusing are suppressed, and high-quality images are obtained at all focusing distances. With eight aperture blades, good background blur is obtained even when the aperture is decreased by one or two stops. A focusing limiter which limits the magnification to 0.25x greatly assists macro photography.  More

Macro with extended reach The EF 100mm F/2.8 Macro USM is a medium telephoto lens with a macro feature providing a 1.0x magnification. With eight aperture blades, creative background blur is possible to help make the subject stand out. The lens features a focusing limiter switch which limits the focus range to improve AF speed.

Ring USM auto focus with manual override Canon’s ring USM auto focus system employs ultrasonic frequency vibrations for fast, accurate and virtually silent operation. Full-time manual focus override, via a large ring that does not rotate during auto focus, allows photographers to fine-tune focusing instantly.

Super Spectra coating Super Spectra coatings help ensure accurate colour balance and high contrast, and suppress flare and ghosting by absorbing light that might be reflected off internal lens elements and image sensor.

Comments about Canon EF 100mm f2.8 USM Macro Lens:

I decided I wanted to have a go at Macro Photography. Having read the rave reviews of this lens I thought it was a good place to start. I didn't want to mess around with lens spacers and reversing lenses etc. I had the cash so took the plunge. Boy am I pleased I did. Being new to macro, I have a lot to learn. The attached image is of a flower less than 2" in diameter. (Best viewed full screen). Sure it's not great and I need to do some work on lighting etc. I think it does show what this lens can do, on a 550D, straight out of the box. Even when used by a beginner. I am now waiting for the cold snap to be over when the Bugs come out to play. In the mean time I find myself wondering round the house and garden looking for small objects to photograph. Such is the enthusiasm this lens has generated.
If you want to get into Macro, I would highly recommend this lens.

Comments about Canon EF 100mm f2.8 USM Macro Lens:

This lens is excellent value for money and fits right into the middle bracket price range. It produces superb results with fast focusing and excellent colour rendition. I have used it to take insect shots/floral and family portrature and have been more than pleased with the quality of pictures produced. Whether the 100mm 2.8 L series macro lens warrants the extra expenditure I cannot say but overall I would not hesitate in recommending this to anyone who wants a good Canon macro lens at a reasonable price.

Comments about Canon EF 100mm f2.8 USM Macro Lens:

Used properly as a macro this lens is impressive - the quality of the images that can be obtained will not disappoint. The internal focusing is a particularly nice feature - great to have a lens that does not change shape. Be aware, though, that this lens is a bit heavy and the concentration of its weight at the far end (away from the camera) makes it difficult to balance - even on a bigger DSLR. This, however, is a minor issue for serious macro photographers who will be using a sturdy tripod

Comments about Canon EF 100mm f2.8 USM Macro Lens:

Bought this lens after reading reviews on here and I am not dissapointed. Bought for macro shots of Butterflies and this lens excels at all it does. We have already taken some cracking shots, and cant wait for the weather to warm up to get some more. It's also a handy telephoto lens but its real forte is macro!

Comments about Canon EF 100mm f2.8 USM Macro Lens:

After doing lots of research on potential macro lenses for my 40D I opted for this one over the EF-S 60mm version as a way to future proof in case I go full frame. The lens is very well made and I like the fix physical dimension, the sharpness of the photos and the clarity.

                Best Uses

Comments about Canon EF 100mm f2.8 USM Macro Lens:

I have to say that I think this lens is one of Canon's 'hidden gems'.

It's well built (the body is plastic, but of very high quality), and focus is done internally so there is no lens extension or moving front element which is good.

The focus limit switch is a good feature, so if you are not doing macro work you can cut down on any autofocus hunting by limiting the focus range to more distant objects.

The autofocus itself is quick and silent and accurate. The focus ring is large and operates smoothly which is just the job for macro work, where you are likely to use manual focus.

Make sure you get the lens hood. The front element is very exposed and you'll need the hood to cut down flare and help guard against damage.

Finally - the image quality is superb. It is great for quality macro, portrait or short telephoto work. Overall, this is one of my favourite lenses.
