Comments about Canon EF 17-40mm f4 L USM Lens:

The most amazing lens I've ever used. Sharp, clear, consistent with ultra fast focus. I have a few 'L' lenses and like all the others this one doesn't disappoint. It's attached to a 1D, which is a heavy piece of kit in itself, but with this lens attached it just balances perfectly and the whole thing now feels lighter and altogether right. It also looks good which if you want 'cool' factor then you won't get more of it than with this. If you want a wide angle this is the one. They don't come better.

Well done Canon and well done WEX. A great lens from a great supplier.

Comments about Canon EF 17-40mm f4 L USM Lens:

This lens has been stuck to a 5d for as long as i can remember.

I use it in the studio 100% of the time, i have no problems with it at all, it lets me shoot wide to close an tight with little or no hassle,

Sometimes i find it isn't as a sharp as a 20 70l but when you taking a load of shots at once of the same thing its a great work horse, In the end the shots are great, with a few good flash guns and a nice fast shutter speed great results are delivered.

the lens hood i think is not too important, it just looks big and doesn't make much difference i think, i never use it.

Comments about Canon EF 17-40mm f4 L USM Lens:

I've been using SLR cameras, on and off, for 31 years now and this is simply the best lens I've owned. I always preferred a wider lens than the standard 50mm on my film SLRs, but this beats eveything else I've used. It has become the standard lens on my 50D. Optically I've yet to be disappointed by anything it produces and its quality makes it a joy to use. I tried two other L lenses on my camera (24-70L and 24-105L) and this one won easily in terms of weight (easily the most comfortable) and zoom range (suits my style of photography). I realize this might change if I upgrade to full-frame, but even then I'd want this lens for landscapes. I'm delighted with this lens - it's just the business!!!

Comments about Canon EF 17-40mm f4 L USM Lens:

The 17-40mm is a good lens in the Canon f4 series line up. I also have the 24-105mm (better because of its greater range), and the 70-200mm IS (which is a great lens because its super sharp). I compared the same scene shot on the 17-24 and the 24-105, at 24mm focal length. Both were equally sharp, but the 24-105 showed barrel distortion and the 17-40 did not. I was using a 5D MKII, which recognises the lenses and adjusts some of the characteristics in camera. At 17mm focal length the 17-40 did show significant distortion and some chromatic aberration' which is expected on wide lenses. However, Canon's Digital Photo Professional (DPP)software made a good job of correcting it. The 17-40 is a good lens and can produce professional photos. Used with DPP the photos can be really good.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Canon EF 17-40mm f4 L USM Lens:

Bought this at short notice as my 16-35 got nicked whilst on a job and have never looked back. It's sharper wide open than the 16-35, and is as rugged as the day is long - it's been bashed about in the middle of demos and riots without missing a shot. Only reason to go for the 16-35 is if you really need that extra stop. Lens hood is a pain tho, I tend to do without it.

Comments about Canon EF 17-40mm f4 L USM Lens:

This lens has very quickly become my standard lens. I have found it to be sharp and very quick to focus. I have not noticed any apparant softness at the edges, and for landscape work it is brilliant. It is an affordable professional lens, giving a good all round performance. I have found it to give best results when used between f/5.6 and f/16, giving front to back sharpness.

My only slight disappointment is the plastic lens hood. It feels rather inferior to the rest of the lens, but nonetheless is useful and easy to get on and off.

Comments about Canon EF 17-40mm f4 L USM Lens:

This lens lives on my 40D, which is mainly used for landscape photography. It is all thatI expected from an 'L" series lens, also relative good value for money, whilst the kit lens [18-55] on my 500D is a very good performer, it is nowhere near the construction and quality of the 17-40. As with most things in life you get what you pay for1

Comments about Canon EF 17-40mm f4 L USM Lens:

This lens was a great by and it rapidly established itself as my 'normal' lens. Most of my photography is travel and landscape related and I do love wide angles. This lens is on my Canon 5Dii most of the time.

Image quality is for the most part sharp and superb. You will see a lot of comments about this being soft at the edges but at smaller apertures this is hardly a problem. At wider aperture I find that a little edge sharpening with Aperture or Photoshop is all I need.

I'm a lightweight backpacker and trekker and quite happily carry this lens. It is pretty light and compact although this does not mean this is not a tough lens. It more than stands up to most things that I throw at it.

Canon users do have the option of moving to the 35-60 2.8 lens but I really wonder whether this is worth the price premium and most of all the weight premium.

Even though this is an f4 lens it is clear and vivid through the viewfinder.

I've given this 5 starts not because it is a perfect lens but because its combination of features is night on perfect for my usage.

Don't hesitate to check this one out.
