The Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens is a standard zoom lens with a focal length ranging from 24mm wide-angle to 105mm portrait-length telephoto. The EF 24-105mm incorporates Canon's highest standards of precision optics, combining outstanding image performance and ultimate operability with dust and moisture resistant construction. Canon's ring-type USM gives silent but quick autofocus (AF), along with full-time manual focus. Moreover, with dust- and moisture-resistant construction, the Canon EF 24-105mm L f4 IS USM is a durable yet sophisticated lens that meets the demands of serious photographers. More
The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, representing the best in precision-designed EF optics. L-series lenses combine superior performance with superlative handling, and are resistant to dust and moisture.
The EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM offers a 4.3x zoom ratio, from wide angle to medium telephoto. It is highly portable, weighing just 670g.
The f/4 maximum aperture of the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM is fixed throughout the lens' focal-length range, so shutter speeds will not change as the lens is zoomed.
The EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM features Canon's three-stop Image Stabilizer (IS), making it ideal for handheld work. IS permits the use of shutter speeds up to three stops slower than normal, with no perceptible increase in image blur from camera shake.
The lens incorporates a Super UD (ultra-low dispersion) glass element to eliminate secondary chromatic aberrations. Aspherical lens elements correct for spherical aberrations. The result is crisp, high-contrast, undistorted optical performance throughout the zoom range, without colour fringing at high-contrast edges.
A ring-type ultrasonic motor drives autofocus extremely quickly, and in near silence. Excellent holding torque ensures the point of focus is reached accurately, without overshooting. Furthermore, full-time manual override is available, making it possible to adjust focus without leaving AF mode.
Super Spectra coatings ensure accurate colour balance and enhance contrast. They also reduce flare and ghosting – a common problem caused by light bouncing off a camera's sensor.
A virtually circular aperture diaphragm gives out of focus regions a softer, more uniform feel. Sharp foreground objects stand out against a smooth blurred background.
A petal shaped hood and soft case are included.

A must have lens in your Kit bag
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
A great all rounder lens. A solidly built lens offering a great f4 across it's focal range. I bought this to replace an older 28-135mm and so glad that I did. I have used it for potraiture with great results, with the subjects expressing how clean and sharp the results were. I also find it to be a great travel companion due to it's fantastic range. No need to carry a handful of different lenses when this one does the trick with such great results, and this is where the fast focusing speed comes in, handy for capturing that photo of the moment. I've also tried this lens out for taking photos at a sports event as the event photographer, and again due to it's fast focusing speed and sharp results I'm really impressed.Although not mega wide, the 24mm end of the focus ring provides for some good landscape shots even in low light, and with it's 72mm filter ring size it matches my other lenses so no need for stepping rings. There's nothing I can find fault with this lens, it's a must have for any kit. My other lenses are starting to gather dust! (Used with a 7D MkII)

Great walkabout lens.
This is a great lens for general use. I use it on a 7D mkII and while 24mm isn't really wide on an APS-C body, it's wide enough and I can always shoot and stitch a panorama if needed. The colour, contrast and sharpness are a big step up from the EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 USM that I used before. The build quality is excellent. Focus and zoom rings nice and smooth with no noticeable lens creep so far (I have only had the lens a couple of months at time of writing). It seems a bit more fiddly to attach than some of my other lenses, not difficult, but not effortless either. It's just due to the good weather sealing rubber ring on the lens mount, so I am not unhappy with it at all. I wish it was f/2.8 but then it would have been double the price, so on balance, I am very happy with this lens.

First class all round lens
By David B

I purchased one of these after exploring a lot of other options renting lenses. I was after something robust enough for treks to take landscape shots and inevitably encountering drizzle and muck. The plastic lenses whilst lighter aren't up to this in my opinion. I also prefer a fixed aperture zoom just to have one less variable to cater for when trying to get the picture. Pros: This lens ticks all the boxes. Its solid, very well made, not too heavy to carry all day and with the IS is brilliant for hand-held and low light. I get shots to keep in low light at 1/8 sec with no trouble. The extra reach up to 105mm compared to the 24-70mm is brilliant to have too. Just gives you more options. Cons:Like most consumer zooms it does suffer from distortion esp. at the wide end (24mm). This lens is classified as above average distortion at 24mm but is reasonably typical for the rest of the range. If you're shooting brick walls or architecture that may be a nuisance. For me it's no trouble at all. Lightroom corrects it automatically on import & for landscape shots I can hardly see it anyway. For family shots I don't use 24mm anyway. A well known Internet reviewer also makes much of the zoom dial from 24mm-35mm being hard to adjust accurately, again I have no trouble at all with it. Horses for courses. Overall - highly recommended, great all rounder, I use it for everything.

Brilliant all round travel lens
By Highland Hunter
from Outer Hebrides
This seems to be a great lens that gives me a lot of options and I use it primarily as my go to lens when travelling. It is very well made and has great functions that are very easy to understand and get used to. Based on the description from Wex and the reviews of other buyers I got exactly what I was expecting and got a great deal with the Canon cashback promotion. Very happy customer.
A worthy replacement
By David imago
The lens replaces my EFS 18-135mm IS used on my 7d. The improved image quality is decernable. I tend to shoot in extreme weather and I now have the assurance that my kit is up to the job and can deliver superb results.

Bought this to replace my 17-85 kit lens which I considered to be poorly constructed something which cannot be said of this lens. It's of excellent build quality, the zoom feature is slightly stiff but smooth as is the manual focusing ring a feature I don't consider to be a disadvantage. This is a very versatile lens which I use for portraits and landscapes and a general walk around lens. Focus is quick and IQ excellent, just wish it was f2.8.
Superb walkabout lens
This is the second one I have had and I love it!
