High performance super-telephoto lens
With a large aperture of f/2.8, the EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM is a high performance super-telephoto lens delivering exceptional image quality in a durable and lightweight design.
The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, representing the best in precision-designed EF optics. L-series lenses combine superior performance with superlative handling, and are highly resistant to dust and moisture.
4-stop Image Stabilizer
A 4-stop optical Image Stabilizer – specially designed for the lens’ specific focal length range – works to counteract image blur, which can occur during handheld shooting, or at slow shutter speeds. Automatic panning detection ensures effective performance when tracking moving subjects and, as the IS system is based in the lens, results are visible through the viewfinder during framing.
Enhanced image quality with SWC coating
Designed for use in digital photography, Canon’s patented Subwavelength structure coating helps minimise the ghosting and flare caused by internal reflections. By eliminating the cause, the coating reduces reflections and helps to deliver crisp, clear images.
3 IS Modes
Ideally suited for all types of action photography especially those disciplines that require the utilization of panning, the new IS mode 3 only activates the image stabilizer element during exposure.
Fast, quiet auto focus
A ring USM (Ultrasonic motor) uses ultrasonic frequency vibrations to drive extremely rapid auto focus with near-silent operation. A high-speed CPU and optimised AF algorithms contribute to fast AF performance. Full time electronic manual focus override is available without having to switch out of AF mode.

Comments about Canon EF 300mm f2.8 L IS II USM Lens:
Almost a permanent lens fitted to my Canon 5D Mk3. Although I find that to ensure a perfect sharp image of distant subjects the camera is best fitted to a good tripod.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Professional
This is truly an amazing lens. I own 11 Canon L Series lenses and this is definitely the most extraordinary. I've wanted to own this lens since the early days of using Canon but could never justify the price. Having owned this now for about 6 months, I would never give it up and am always finding new uses for it including events, landscapes, and even group photos! It's not just a sports lens.
In a league of its own

This lens does most of the job for you. If you get most of the shot right, this will pick up the pieces and turn it into a belter. If your set up is well prepared, you get the most stunning pictures. AF is almost ahead of you and the 3rd IS setting is probably this lens' ace up its sleeve. Best lens I've ever used.

Canon 300mm 2.8L IS MKII USM
from Milton Keynes
Having once hired the lens a year ago i managed to save all of my sheckles to make the purchase. As it happens Canon at the time of writing are offering £425 Cashback which was also a great incentive. As a perfet lens for my needs of fast action/ sports along with fashion catwalk shows, the versitility of the lens is spot on.Used with the 1.4MKIII TC you get a F4 420mm focal legnth with almost no loss of Iq or AF Speed. Used with the 2XMKIII again, almost no loss in IQ/AF and a F5.6 lens at 600mm. The only thing you cant do is stack th new MKIII TC's.To compliment the lens also i purchased the kirk bracket which aligns perfectly with my Arca/Swiss heads and replaces the origial foot with ease. Some would argue that the Kirk plate is better balanced however mounted or not the flexibility is thereI also purchased a drop in circular ploriser filter as a lot of the time te lens is pointed to the sky and into strong light sources.Finaly, as i like to keep the kit in A1 condition as best i can i purchased a neoprene camo set to cover the lens and extenders. To sum up, a dream lens which is a pleasure to use and look at the results!!

More than pleased with this purchase. The cost is outweighed by the performance.

High expectations exceeded
By Mr Fug
Sole use wildlife - use with 1.4 converter to give 420mm for birds, but also for butterflies, and, amazingly, works well with extension tubs for butterflies and even hoverflies! So it's more versatile than I expected. It's heavy of course, but not as heavy as I feared, and on a monopod it's a breeze to carry around, using the pod as a shoulder rest. But the main point is the sheer quality of the image and speed of the lens; it's stunning - only word for it.So if wildlife's your thing, take a deep breath and buy one!

Probably best optic on the planet.
By The Lonely Lemon
The most optically stunning lens ive ever used.I have used probably most of the best Canon L primes over the years including the MKI version of this lens. The sharpness of this lens is just obscene; the difference between 2.8 and 5.6 is practically 0, IE comparing both images at 200% in DPP with zero sharpening look identical!.utterly amazing lens.My copy is almost as good as the native lens with the inclusion of the 2x TC III wide open! Seriously! this 600mm f/5.6 L IS lens wide open is possibly the second sharpest L ive used at any aperture! It's expensive, yes, but TBH it is proportional to the quality which is world class. If you want a fantastic 300mm and an equally fantastic 600mm both of which i never stop down get this lens! Its just fantastic.

Many years ago I bought a Canon 300mm 2.8l lense from Wex. [...] Now I have just bought the MK11 model which is absolutely unreal. The image quality is stunning, and it's built like a tank.Yes the price tag is a little scary, almost like a second mortgage to most, but if you are truly into photography just find a way to get one 'cause its a must have[...] Plus I am now SKINT!!!

I have had this lens since the end of September and I am using it quite frequently mainly for wildlife photography. It is a great piece of kit and it is of course extremely sharp (if you don't have one of the affected 7Ds anyway - like me). It has the most amazing depth of field, it is pin sharp even at f/2.8. It is extremely well built and the front glass element almost seems to clean itself. I have had to clean the glass once since I have owned it. The auto-focus speed is incredible and its low light performance on a good body is superb. Of course it is not a particularly light lens but it is superbly balanced and one can hand hold it relatively comfortably. I got some great images with it in Kenya and I am looking to start filming with it too.I shall give a more in depth review of it once the summer season has come & gone and I have used it everyday for a couple of months.
