The Canon EF 50mm f1.8 is one of the lightest EF lenses of all, weighing in at a mere 130g. It is very compact and provides high-performance for a standard lens. Colour balance is excellent and Gaussian optics provide sharp delineation from near to far focusing distances. As this lens features a Canon EF (Electro-Focus) lens mount, you can use this lens on a Canon full-frame camera (Such as the 1D X, 5D Mk III, 6D etc.) and a camera with a cropped (APS-C) sensor using an EF-S mount (EG. 350D, 400D, 450D, 7D, 500D, 550D, 600D, 650D, 700D, 60D etc.). Compact and high-performance, standard lens
This is the lightest EF lens in the range, weighing a mere 130g. Its Gaussian optics provide sharp images at all focusing distances as well as excellent colour balance and contrast.
Fully Electronic Lens Mount
As part of the acclaimed EF lens family, the EF 50mm f/1.8 II features a built in AF motor to provide fast, direct AF performance. The lens also includes an electromagnetic diaphragm, which ensures the right mechanical aperture position is achieved every time.
Smooth background blur
A virtually circular aperture diaphragm gives out of focus regions a softer, more uniform feel. Sharp foreground objects stand out against a smooth blurred background.
Super Spectra coating
Super Spectra coatings ensure accurate colour balance and enhance contrast. They also reduce flare and ghosting – a common problem caused by light bouncing off a camera's sensor

Worth they money and best quality
About Me Semi-Professional
Comments about Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II Lens:
It is worth the money and works perfectly fine, I haven't seen any difference between this and the prime lens 50mm. Only casing and the f stops.. but still great quality for what you pay.. good for general use and have it always in my bag.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
As with previous reviews I have read, this is a lightweight lens that delivers and is great for those of us just starting in photography to get an insight into the ability of a 50mm lens.
Yes its noisy but the image quality is sufficiently good for general photography and in particular portraiture.
Great Value for money quality lens
Great fast lens for portrait (shallow depth of field) and low light photography

Cannon 50mm EF lens
Good lens I have a Cannon 550d so the lens works like a 80mm on the body. But offers great image quality... Well worth the investment
Great addition to my bag
About Me Casual user
Got this just before Christmas, and only had an 18-35mm kit lens prior to this. The 50mm is a handy little lens that's taken some lovely pet portaits, and great for photos in areas of low light/night time.
I would Recommend this product

Just lovely for portraits as blurs the background nicely and gets great results.
Quality lens for a fair price.

Not the most robust build but don't let that fool you, this lens delivers quality sharp images. I used it for studio work, portrait and also photographing jewellery, so the subject wasn't too close to the lens, but the results were extremely sharp and stood up to enlargement.
