The Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS II USM Lens features a re-designed optical system that delivers incredible results. A high-performance fluorite element is combined with five ultra-low dispersion (UD) elements to reduce chromatic aberration throughout the zoom range and producing high contrast images with edge-to-edge definition. The lens is equipped with a ring-type USM AF motor and a high-speed CPU that makes auto-focusing both faster and quieter. The updated Image Stabilizer mechanism offers a shutter speed advantage equivalent to four-stops, reducing the effect of camera shake in lower light environments. The mount, focus mode switch & focusing ring all feature a dust and drip-proof structure that prevents dust or water from getting inside the lens & camera when used with accompanying weatherproof EOS bodies, making it a highly durable, reliable lens for use day-to-day by professional photographers. This lens is suitable for use with both full-frame & cropped sensor (APS-C) cameras. More

The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, representing the best in precision-designed EF optics. L-series lenses combine superior performance with superlative handling, and are resistant to dust and moisture.
Fast, constant maximum aperture
Shoot hand held in low light conditions thanks to a fast f/2.8 maximum aperture, which stays constant throughout the zoom range. Such an aperture also gives a photographer control over depth of field.
Canon’s four-stop Image Stabilizer (IS) makes the EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II USM ideal for shooting in low light conditions when using a tripod is not possible. The IS system allows shutter speeds up to four stops slower than normal to be used without causing image blur.
Fluorite and ultra-low dispersion (UD) lens elements
The lens features elements made from fluorite, which reduce chromatic aberration. Five UD (ultra-low dispersion) elements are used to ensure high contrast and natural colour reproduction throughout the zoom range.
Smooth background blur
A virtually circular aperture diaphragm gives out of focus regions a softer, more uniform feel. Sharp foreground objects stand out against a smooth blurred background.
A ring-type ultrasonic motor drives autofocus extremely quickly, and in near silence. Excellent holding torque ensures the point of focus is reached accurately, without overshooting. Furthermore, full-time manual override is available, making it possible to adjust focus without leaving AF mode.
The lens is supplied as standard with the ET-87 lens hood to prevent glare affecting images, as well as a removable tripod mount and soft case.

Worth every penny.
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
When i first dipped my toe into the world of L glass I started with the F4 is USM version of this lens and so my love affair began. I was sceptical as to whether the extra outlay could be justified as my current version was going to take some beating. Let me tell you that this lens is worth every penny spent on it. At F2.8 it produces pin sharp images with creamy bokeh backgrounds that make the subject pop from the page or screen. It is a heavy lens, but then i knew this when buying it, and in my opinion it just adds to the overall feel of it being built like a tank. I have mine attached to a 5D mkiii on a black rapid strap, and with the tripod collar being used to attach the eye to the hook i can wear it all day without feeling tired. It's like they say, you really do get what you pay for. Take the plunge, you won't be disappointed.

A great all round product!
This lens is fantastic. After previously owning the Mark I, I recently upgraded to this one via the Part Ex programme. I loved my old mark I and really didn't think this would be that much different, but it really is. The image quality this lens produces is fantastic, sharp pictures with no visible image defects or chromatic aberrations. I usually use the lens for sports and wedding photography, where it performs equally as well in low lighting and with fast moving objects. The focusing with the USM is fast, smooth and quiet. With the exception of the lens being slightly heavy, I can't find any other faults with the lens and would thoroughly recommend this product.

What a beauty!
I Can't describe how fast this lens grabs focus. Consistant sharpness from f2.8 is a real treat too. When capturing birds in flight coming towards you this lens is ideal.
Upgraded from the Canon 70 -200mm F4 and was worried about the extra bulk and weight but soon got use to that. The F2.8's focus is much faster than than the F4 which makes it great for quick wildlife shots. Plus it picks up shots in poor lighting that I never would have got before. It's a new best friend.
Upgraded from the old version and not disappointed. Fantastic workhorse lens!

About Me Professional
Unbelievable for a zoom I thought it would be stretched to surpass my mk 1 version but it does. Looking at the monitor it looks like a prime lens has been used. It doesn't quite match my beloved 200mm f2 for tiny detail and it isn't as light as my 135mm f2 but it's way better than just a compromise. No wonder so many newsmen use them. Anyone want to buy my mk 1 ???Never mind recommending it to a friend, I've bought it myself !

So far used for a wedding and outdoors rural activities/animals & some landscapes. Achieved some amazing quality shots in difficult light at a wedding recently, with no front lighting and at some distance. The shots were very crisp and even & barely needed editing. Also some lovely animal shots isolating the subject with very even sharpness across the whole frame. The f2.8 is wonderful to have and seem to be using it/needing it more than anticipated. The only downside is the weight; expected but a pity. too heavy for me to carry for long. But - superb lens & hope to have for a lifetime.
Simply a remarkable lens. Produces stunning photos at every aperture and every focal length. I can't see how this lens could be improved upon (well lighter maybe). Although not cheap, it is like having a bunch of f2.8 primes in one lens. A 70mm, 85mm, 100mm, 135mm and 200mm. It is ultra sharp, focusses really fast and produces great bokeh. Yet another beatiful lens from Canon.
