The Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS II USM Lens features a re-designed optical system that delivers incredible results. A high-performance fluorite element is combined with five ultra-low dispersion (UD) elements to reduce chromatic aberration throughout the zoom range and producing high contrast images with edge-to-edge definition. The updated Image Stabilizer mechanism offers a shutter speed advantage equivalent to four-stops, reducing the effect of camera shake in lower light environments. The mount, focus mode switch & focusing ring all feature a dust and drip-proof structure that prevents dust or water from getting inside the lens & camera when used with accompanying weatherproof EOS bodies, making it a highly durable, reliable lens for use day-to-day. Suitable for use on full-frame and cropped sensor (APS-C) cameras. More

The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, representing the best in precision-designed EF optics. L-series lenses combine superior performance with superlative handling, and are resistant to dust and moisture.
Fast, constant maximum aperture
Shoot hand held in low light conditions thanks to a fast f/2.8 maximum aperture, which stays constant throughout the zoom range. Such an aperture also gives a photographer control over depth of field.
Canon’s four-stop Image Stabilizer (IS) makes the EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II USM ideal for shooting in low light conditions when using a tripod is not possible. The IS system allows shutter speeds up to four stops slower than normal to be used without causing image blur.
Fluorite and ultra-low dispersion (UD) lens elements
The lens features elements made from fluorite, which reduce chromatic aberration. Five UD (ultra-low dispersion) elements are used to ensure high contrast and natural colour reproduction throughout the zoom range.
Smooth background blur
A virtually circular aperture diaphragm gives out of focus regions a softer, more uniform feel. Sharp foreground objects stand out against a smooth blurred background.
A ring-type ultrasonic motor drives autofocus extremely quickly, and in near silence. Excellent holding torque ensures the point of focus is reached accurately, without overshooting. Furthermore, full-time manual override is available, making it possible to adjust focus without leaving AF mode.
The lens is supplied as standard with the ET-87 lens hood to prevent glare affecting images, as well as a removable tripod mount and soft case.

About Me Semi-Professional
Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS II USM Lens:
I have had this lens on my wish list for ages, every report you read about it, it comes top. So when WEX had it at a great low price and with a deal on an extender ( I got a 1.4x extender at the same time ) I took the plunge. I use it with my 5D MK2 and 60D (next step is a 70D)and they work together like a dream. I have had several cameras and lenses off WEX ( my only other supplier is Digital Depot in Stevenage, like WEX they are great people to deal with, local to me, hense I use them, but a little more expensive.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Everything that has already been said about this lens is probably spot on. I bought it on the basis of that information and I am not disappointed. Yes, it's bulky and heavy but that's a small price to pay for its outstanding performance - wonderfully sharp even at full aperture and divine 'bokeh'. It may be that, one day there will be a mark 3 version but it's difficult to see how it can be improved unless there is a wonder material somewhere out there that can make it lighter.

THE wedding lens
I adore this lens, it's completely changed what I can do. I'm using this lens through most of the wedding. It is a little heavy for me as a female photographer, but I have got stronger using it and can say I'm used to it now. What I love about this lens is that it consistently focus's sharply, even when my subject is moving in a dark space (e.g. during a dark reception while dancing the night away). I couldn't be more impressed!

The flagship 70-200 for Canons.
By Cap'n Fishy
I used to have the f4 version, which I used on a crop body. The range was never particularly useful, so I sold it on. I changed to full frame in 2012. I found I was using the 200mm f2.8 prime a lot and decided to come back to 70-200, and this time go whole hog with the f2.8 version. I'm glad I did. The range is so much more useful on FF, it's as sharp as the 200 prime, and it's got good IS. Couple of examples below.

I just upgraded to the Canon 5D mk3 and needed a range of general L series lenses. Now I spent a lot of time exploring the market and reading reviews on the 70-200mm 2.8 range. Making allowances that a 1.4x or 2x extender may be purchased at a later date and still retain a little speed then this was the one to go for.Is it worth the aching muscles - YESIs it worth seeing the bank manager for - YesWant pin sharp photos and fast focusing - ???Need I say more, I will let you decide.
I am a newborn photographer and absolutely love this lens. It does put a bit of a whole in the pocket but it's well worth it if you're looking for a quality well built lens. If you can afford to get one, what are you waiting for?!?
A weighty Matter
Like most Canon products it does what they say it will do. I use it (with a X2 extender) mainly for recording birds, and it produces results as good and probably better than Canon lenses I have used previously. As an f/2.8 lens it is generally faster than older workhorses (f/5.6 100-400 & 70-300 DO lenses), and is better suited to dark Winter days. The lens (especially plus Extender) is on the heavy side at around 1.7Kg, and although it has produced some fine shots (of runners at a school sports day) hand held, it is perhaps better braced in some way.
