One of the finest telephoto zoom lenses in the EF line. The Canon 70-200 has four UD-glass elements to correct chromatic aberrations. Its constant f/2.8 maximum aperture and superb image quality make it one of the most popular professional SLR lenses in the world. Compatible with Extender EF 1.4x II and 2x II. Includes Canon ET-83 II lens hood. More
A zoom as good as a prime lens
One of the finest telephoto zoom lenses in the EF line, optically comparable to a prime lens. Four UD-glass elements to correct chromatic aberrations and multiple zoom groups allow internal focusing, resulting in high image quality throughout the zoom range. Compatible with Extender EF 1.4x and 2x.
Fast, constant maximum aperture
Shooting in low-light conditions is possible thanks to the lens' fast maximum aperture of f/2.8, which stays constant throughout the zoom range. Such an aperture also gives control over depth of field.
L (Luxury)-series quality
The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, representing the best in precision-designed EF optics. L-series lenses combine superior performance with superlative handling, and are resistant to dust and moisture.
A ring-type ultrasonic motor drives autofocus extremely quickly, and in near silence. Excellent holding torque ensures the point of focus is reached accurately, without overshooting. Furthermore, full-time manual override is available, making it possible to adjust focus without leaving AF mode.
Super Spectra coating
Super Spectra coatings ensure accurate colour balance and enhance contrast. They also reduce flare and ghosting – a common problem caused by light bouncing off a camera's sensor.
A lens hood and a soft case are included.

About Me Professional
Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8 L USM Lens:
I couldn't decide on the 2.8 or the 4 IS. I chose the 2.8 as I will be using the lens in a studio so slow shutter speeds won't be an issue. I love the lens, it is brilliant. yes it is heavy but it is to be expected as it is built solidly. It is sharp and quick to focus.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Semi-Professional
I have used this in the field for press work with a 1Ds Mark III and it is absolutely fantastic - beautiful colour rendition and detail. Pictures are sharp as a tack at f/2.8 and it is quick to focus. What I also love about the 70-200 f/2.8 is that it focuses internally - so the barrel of the lens does not shift. This gives you the impression that the lens is bullet proof. I currently own a 24-70 f/2.8L, and an 85 f/1.2L II and I must say that this is my favourite piece of glass out of all. I love the focal length as it offers so much versatility. The 70-200 f/2.8 was originally released back in 1995 and is probably still one of the best lenses in the world. It is suitable for many purposes so ticks all of the right boxes. (NOTE: I do not recommend removing the tripod mount as I had to send my first copy of the lens back to Wex for an exchange.)
WOW, WOW AND WOW
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
I have deliberated for a long time over getting this lens. It seems to be the one that everyone is talking about. I purchased this lens as a compromise, couldn't afford the full frame DSLR as yet and it has become the best purchase I have ever made. The Focus is sharp and quick. The quality of the images that are coming through are simply incredible, it is as if I have purchased a new camera. I am mainly using this lens for portraits at the moment, but I will be trying it out on some landscape work shortly. Yes it is heavy and big, but they really are small prices to pay for the superb light that this lens gets through to the sensor. The speed of the lens, being 2.8 is phenomenal and has allowed for some great portraits to be taken even indoors in dingy light. I cannot fault this lens and would recommend it to anyone that is wanting to take their photography to the next level.

About Me Getting started
A quick, sharp focusing lens fantastic in low light but after carrying it for a while it gets a bit heavy
Great quality item.
Great quality product,a little on the heavy side but that is to be expected.Great carry/protective case.Need to be accurate when auto focusing at long zoom, as it is easy to get required images out of focus if auto focus picks thing slightly in forground. But this isnt a fault of the lens!

Does what it says on the tin
Glad I bought it. I thought it might be difficult to use but it is very easy.
A great solid built performer.

I bought this lens for use as a portrait telephoto for my photography business after reading reviews on this lens. The optical performance is second to none, it provides consistent sharp images even at the f2.8 end of the scale. The lens provides near silent focussing and is extremely fast. The wide aperture of f2.8 gives some very pleasing bokeh with foreground interest sharp as a pin! There aren't any bad points to this lens other than its weight, but that is what you should expect for a lens of this quality.
Top quality optics at a great price

I bought this to replace a Canon EF 200 2.8, as I needed something to extend the range of my 24 -70 lens. I was prepared to accept a slight degradation of quality in exchange for versatility, but actually the 70 - 200 is pin sharp right through the zoom range and at the apertures I generally use, wide open to f8. I would go so far as to say this is the sharpest lens I have ever owned. If you can afford the image stabilised version, great, but otherwise, this is a great lens for the money.

EF 70-200 f2.8/L f2.8, 1/800sec, f/6.3, ISO 200

After much deliberation I dipped my toe and got my first "fast" lens although slightly worried that I had not gone for the IS version (too expensive for me). I have tried to only buy "L" lenses where possible so this was a bit of a stretch. Was it worth it? Oh yes indeedy - fast focus, pin sharp images, amazing colours! A new lens always takes a little getting used to and i am looking forward to getting used to this. Why the 2.8 against the f4 IS? I wanted the faster speed but I also did not want to have to buy a whole load of new filters as all my other lenses are 77mm. Is the IS important - well not for me at the moment and certainly not for an extra £1K. Weight saving was an important factor as well.
