One of the finest telephoto zoom lenses in the EF line. The Canon 70-200 has four UD-glass elements to correct chromatic aberrations. Its constant f/2.8 maximum aperture and superb image quality make it one of the most popular professional SLR lenses in the world. Compatible with Extender EF 1.4x II and 2x II. Includes Canon ET-83 II lens hood. As this lens features a Canon EF (Electro-Focus) lens mount, you can use this lens on a Canon full-frame camera (Such as the 1D X, 5D Mk III, 6D etc.) and a cropped sensor (APS-C) camera with EF-S mount (EG. 350D, 7D, 550D, 60D etc.). A zoom as good as a prime lens
One of the finest telephoto zoom lenses in the EF line, optically comparable to a prime lens. Four UD-glass elements to correct chromatic aberrations and multiple zoom groups allow internal focusing, resulting in high image quality throughout the zoom range. Compatible with Extender EF 1.4x and 2x.
Fast, constant maximum aperture
Shooting in low-light conditions is possible thanks to the lens' fast maximum aperture of f/2.8, which stays constant throughout the zoom range. Such an aperture also gives control over depth of field.
L (Luxury)-series quality
The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, representing the best in precision-designed EF optics. L-series lenses combine superior performance with superlative handling, and are resistant to dust and moisture.
A ring-type ultrasonic motor drives autofocus extremely quickly, and in near silence. Excellent holding torque ensures the point of focus is reached accurately, without overshooting. Furthermore, full-time manual override is available, making it possible to adjust focus without leaving AF mode.
Super Spectra coating
Super Spectra coatings ensure accurate colour balance and enhance contrast. They also reduce flare and ghosting – a common problem caused by light bouncing off a camera's sensor.
A lens hood and a soft case are included.

Great quality item.
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Great quality product,a little on the heavy side but that is to be expected.Great carry/protective case.Need to be accurate when auto focusing at long zoom, as it is easy to get required images out of focus if auto focus picks thing slightly in forground. But this isnt a fault of the lens!

I bought this lens for use as a portrait telephoto for my photography business after reading reviews on this lens. The optical performance is second to none, it provides consistent sharp images even at the f2.8 end of the scale. The lens provides near silent focussing and is extremely fast. The wide aperture of f2.8 gives some very pleasing bokeh with foreground interest sharp as a pin! There aren't any bad points to this lens other than its weight, but that is what you should expect for a lens of this quality.
Top quality optics at a great price

I bought this to replace a Canon EF 200 2.8, as I needed something to extend the range of my 24 -70 lens. I was prepared to accept a slight degradation of quality in exchange for versatility, but actually the 70 - 200 is pin sharp right through the zoom range and at the apertures I generally use, wide open to f8. I would go so far as to say this is the sharpest lens I have ever owned. If you can afford the image stabilised version, great, but otherwise, this is a great lens for the money.

After much deliberation I dipped my toe and got my first "fast" lens although slightly worried that I had not gone for the IS version (too expensive for me). I have tried to only buy "L" lenses where possible so this was a bit of a stretch. Was it worth it? Oh yes indeedy - fast focus, pin sharp images, amazing colours! A new lens always takes a little getting used to and i am looking forward to getting used to this. Why the 2.8 against the f4 IS? I wanted the faster speed but I also did not want to have to buy a whole load of new filters as all my other lenses are 77mm. Is the IS important - well not for me at the moment and certainly not for an extra £1K. Weight saving was an important factor as well.

this lense is great , i love it. the images are so sharp, great depth of field variations, shoots in low light, not as heavy as i thought it would be. very usable. great. i was debating whether to buy the lense but it is such a good buy - for me. It has a good feel on the camera, the weight is very balanced and it is easy to hold
Thought long and hard about purchasing this lens. Worth every penny. Used it for equestrian vaulting this weekend and really pleased with the sharpness of the photos.

About Me Professional
This lens is amazing in low light situations. I have used it at weddings and have been wowed by how sharp the images are and quickly it focuses. I tried out the sigma equivalent but this is far quicker to focus and knocks spots of it.
A very nice lens, with a very quick focus! heavy to hold and camera shake will occur at 200mm in low lighting without tripod
