Compact, manoeuvrable and lightweight, the Canon EF 70-200mm f4 L IS USM lens features 4-stop image stabilisation and delivers the very finest in L-series lens optics for stand out optical performance and operability. The Canon lens offers inner focusing and ring USM which produces quick and quiet autofocusing. A circular polarising filter can be attached and used easily, as the front lens element does not rotate during focusing. A tripod collar is available separately, and is the same as that used with the EF 300mm f/4L USM. More
The EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM features the world's first 4-stop Image Stabilizer (IS). Ideal for handheld work, the exceptionally accurate and sensitive IS negates the need for a tripod in many conditions. Shutter speeds up to 4 stops slower than would be otherwise possible (e.g. 1/15 sec instead of 1/200) can be used with no perceptible increase in image blur. For stabilised panning, IS Mode 2 corrects only for unwanted vertical shake.
The lens embodies Canon’s highest standards of L-series optics, build quality, reliability and operability. Crisp, high contrast image quality is assured right across the frame and throughout the entire zoom range. A reliable partner in tough conditions, the metal and polycarbonate construction features special environmental seals to prevent the ingress of dust and moisture.
With a length of just 172mm and weighing only 760g, the EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM is ideal for assignments where there is a need to travel light without compromising performance, operability or image quality.
With no change in aperture over the full focal length range, photographers can set exposure at the widest aperture and zoom through to 200mm without slowing shutter speed. Lens length remains constant during zooming and focusing.
Fluorite and UD lens elements
The lens incorporates a single Fluorite and two UD (ultra-low dispersion glass) lens elements to suppress secondary chromatic aberrations. The result is crisp, high contrast, undistorted images throughout the entire zoom range, without colour fringing at subject outlines.
A Ring-type USM (Ultrasonic motor) delivers responsive, high-speed, silent auto focus. Holding torque is excellent, stopping the focus lens group with precision and without overshoot. Full time manual focus override is available without switching out of AF. Minimum focus distance is 1.2m throughout the zoom range.
Super Spectra coatings
Optimised Super Spectra coatings and lens element shaping suppress flare and ghosting. Coatings also help achieve true colour balance and increase contrast.
Pleasing background blur
The Electro Magnetic Diaphragm (EMD) features an almost perfectly circular aperture to create an even and attractive blur from out-of-focus backgrounds.
A cylindrical bayonet hood and soft case are included.

1 L of a lens
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f4 L IS USM Lens:
I traded in my 70-300mm Canon lens for this. That lens was a good telephoto lens and won me National competitions, so was in no way poor quality in any respect. This F4 L IS USM lens has taken my photography to the next level. It's easy to use, quick to focus and pin sharp. The IS is on the noisy side but you get used to it and it does a fantastic job. I use this lens for landscape , architecture and portraits and it does all very well. The Bokeh on portraits is fantastic. I did consider buying the F2.8 L but this does the job so well I am glad I paid half the money with half the weight. I am sure the F2.8 is fantastic as well - just not for me at the moment. I have been told the F2.8 is "as sharp" but not worth twice as much - unless you desperately need it for low light.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Ideal walk about lens
from Scottish Borders
Early days, but confident it was a good buy.
I would recommendl this product
I use this product for mid-range wildlife and activity shots.I find it is quick and easy to attach / detachIt is an intuitive piece of kit - not overly complicated and / or technical
Easy to handle, razor sharp images
Significantly lighter than my Canon 100 - 400 lens, this lens really punches above it's weight. Super quick focus, razor sharp images make this my favourite lens to use.
I would strongly recommend this lens
from Buckden, Cambridgeshire
I bought this lens to replace a non-L series Canon 18-200mm lens & the performance is far superior. I also have an L-Series 100-400mm & believe this lens performs better over its range

Extremely sharp lens with exceptional photo detail and good background blur. The only downside is that in low light the autofocus can take is little longer. However with the F2.8 being approx £1,000.00 more expensive then overall this lens is very good value for money.
Handy Piece of Kit
from East Anglia
I needed a portable shortish telephoto zoom for flexibility on a nature photography trip. Needed to keep the camera bag weight down and handhold when shooting. This is a good compromise with decent sharpness and autofocus.

Great Lens for Extroverts
I have just upgraded to a full frame camera , (Canon 5D MK 111) and wanted a general purpose, reasonably priced lens that wasn't too heavy to wear around my neck. This is a great lens which focuses quickly and produces some very sharp pictures. I love it. Obviously it wouldn't be a good choice for street photography as it does draw some attention at times particularly from other photographers. You will definitely get noticed, so if you are a shy photographer this may not be the lens for you but if you want sharp pictures and L series quality for a reasonable price then go for it, you won't be disappointed.

This is the sharpest lens I own - it's sharper than my two primes. It's not too heavy, it autofocuses instantly and the IS is as good as it gets. As I now have a full-frame camera the 200mm reach of this lens does not amount to much in telephoto terms but, unexpectedly, I find this is now my most used lens for general photography, walkabout, portraiture etc. I'm not sure that I'm too keen on the white finish - I'd probably prefer black - but we'll have to let that one pass. The build quality of this lens is second-to-none - this is a quality piece of kit.

Lightweight - but sharp
I really wanted the f2.8 version of this lens but when I tried it found it just too heavy to use. I am really pleased with this lens as a replacement - it is very sharp, easy to carry and as long as f4 is sufficient its brilliant. Better than I had imagined.
