The Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II Lens is a compact and lightweight telephoto zoom lens. It is specifically designed for the range of EOS digital SLR cameras that use the smaller EF-S lens mount. Featuring the same impressive performance as the MkI lens, this MkII version has been cosmetically updated to match Canon's other EF-S lenses. Combining powerful performance with high image quality, this lens offers the equivalent of 88-400mm in 35mm format, and is ideal for photographers seeking an affordable, versatile lens for general-purpose telephoto photography. The EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Lens incorporates Canon's 4-stop compensation Image Stabilizer technology. This allows the use of shutter speeds up to 4 times slower with no perceptible increase in image blur. Panning detection automatically turns off the Image Stabiliser in either the horizontal or vertical direction when following moving subjects. This EF-S lens is only suitable for cameras with a cropped APS-C sensor. More
Affordable, powerful telephoto zoom
The EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II is a telephoto zoom lens combining powerful performance with high image quality. With a focal length equivalent of 88-400mm in 35mm format, it is ideal for photographers seeking an affordable, versatile lens for general-purpose telephoto photography.
Image Stabilizer with automatic panning detection
To combat the effects of camera shake, the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II incorporates Canon’s 4-stop compensation Image Stabilizer technology. This allows the use of shutter speeds up to 4 times slower with no perceptible increase in image blur. Automatic panning detection automatically turns off the Image Stabilizer in either the horizontal or vertical direction when following moving subjects.
UD lens element
The EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II employs a Canon UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) lens element to suppress the effects of secondary chromatic aberrations – for crisp, sharp, high-contrast images without fringing throughout the zoom range.
Super Spectra Coatings
Canon’s Super Spectra coatings combat ghosting and flare by absorbing light that may be reflected off digital camera sensors or internal lens elements. Super Spectra coatings also help ensure accurate colour balance and sharp, high-contrast results.
Circular aperture diaphragm
For shots taken at large apertures, a circular aperture diaphragm creates smooth, even blur - ideal for emphasising subjects shot against distracting backgrounds.
Only environmentally-friendly, lead-free glass is used in the construction of the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II.
The EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II is supplied with a lens cap and dust cap. A lens hood (ET-60) and lens case (LP1019) are available as optional accessories.

About Me Getting started
I used this lens recently at a wedding I attended and was great, as I could stand far enough away so people were unaware of their photo being taken. Great product and would recommend to any 2nd photographers at weddings.

good value for price
For a cheaper end of the range lens this is extremely lightweight for carry about, I was doubtful as to what the photo quality would be like but I found the pictures are very sharp and so I am delighted with this lens.

Excellent entry level zoom
from Tunbridge Wells
Bought this as a cheap zoom for my travel bag. I was pleasantly surprised by the build and image quality. For the money, I don't think you'll beat them. Its robust enough to sit in a pouch in a rucksack for those hard to reach shots. The image stabilisation is fantastic. On the whole the lens performs exceptionally well – the only small issue i've come across is every now and again the auto-focus is slow. Whether that's inherent in the model, I can't say – but it's the only lens I have that does it...Great purchase though and will serve well until I start saving for a 70-300 EF.
I've only had this lens for one day, but already I'm incredibly impressed. It's lightweight, has great colour and clarity and adds none of the bulk zoom lenses of this type used (and I was expecting to be honest). The build quality is exceptional too - I was going to say 'for the money' but that would be a disservice. Only one very minor downside (at the moment...) - it can be a little hesitant when focussing. Remains to be seen if that's hugely problematic, but I can't see a big enough issue to dock a star. Looking forward to taking it out and about to compliment my 18-135.Basically, for the money you cannot go wrong.
I got this as part of a bundle, Used it a couple of times went to Keswick at Easter primarily to try out the camera. Excellent results at long distance, Snow on the hills etc, little to no pixcelisation when zoomed in. Really good lens which is what you would expect from a A class company as Canon.
