November 2011 - "Yesterday I was given the opportunity to play with a Canon EOS-1D X. It was still one of the factory sample camera bodies so I wasn’t allowed to analyze the image or video quality. However, I was able to test out the new controls and experiment with many of the new features and functions." Read more about the Canon EOS 1D X here...

18.1 MP full frame CMOS sensor
A Canon 18.1 MP full frame CMOS sensor delivers stunning performance, producing exceptional low noise, high-resolution images even in the darkest conditions. The full frame sensor delivers optimum results from wide-angle lenses and gives you greater control over depth of field. Image resolution exceeds the quality demanded by leading photo agencies - making it ideal for extra large prints up to A2 size, even after cropping.
Super high speed shooting
Capture every second of the action with up to 12fps continuous shooting, increasing to an incredible 14fps in Super High speed shooting with continuous bursts of up to 120 large JPEG images (36 RAW).
Huge ISO range
An exceptionally wide ISO range of 100 to 51200 – expandable up to an incredible ISO 204800 – means shooting need never stop from the brightest conditions right through to near darkness.
61 point AF system
A high-precision 61 point AF system, featuring 41 high sensitivity cross type sensors, delivers fast, accurate focussing of fast moving subjects – whatever the lighting conditions. The centre 5 AF points are dual cross type for added precision.
Consistent, accurate metering
A 100,000 pixel RGB AE metering system with a dedicated DIGIC 4 processor measures not only brightness but also colour to ensure highly accurate exposure for natural results even in complex lighting situations.
Full HD EOS movies
Shoot Full HD (1080p) video with a wide range of user selectable controls on a DSLR including exposure, frame rates, audio and compression control. An HDMI output allows High Definition playback of footage and images.
Dual “DIGIC 5+” processors
Canon’s latest generation Dual “DIGIC 5+” processors deliver the fastest and most advanced image processing to date for best-in-class image quality. Working with 4 A/D converters to provide 14-bit image processing for smooth tonal gradations and natural looking colours as well as advanced Noise Reduction at higher ISO speeds.
Large, anti-reflective LCD
A high-resolution 1,040k-dot 3.2” Clear View II LCD screen, allows easy, accurate review of images and video. Superbly durable, an anti-reflective, hardened glass structure prevents reflections even in the brightest sunlight.
Designed for professionals
The EOS-1D X offers a carefully revised version of the classic EOS-1 series design, with larger, more tactile buttons that make it easier for users to control settings – even in extreme conditions where gloves are required. Two multi-controllers and a touch-sensitive control wheel, for use in movie mode, make it easier to change settings, while a range of customisable function buttons allow users to set-up the camera to suit their individual needs by allowing shortcuts to the features and pre-sets they use most.
Built to last
The EOS-1D X offers a highly durable body constructed from high-grade magnesium alloy that provides protection against both the elements and the knocks of everyday use. The latest implementation of Canon’s EOS Integrated Cleaning System also uses technology adopted from Canon lenses, using wave-based vibrations similar to that of Ultrasonic Motors to shake dust and dirt from the sensor even more effectively.
An enhanced shutter mechanism also provides extended durability, providing 400K shutter cycles so photographers can rely on their camera to meet the challenge of repeated, demanding shoots. The EOS-1D X also features Canon’s protective sealing around the controls and cover seams, making the camera dust and water-resistant when combined with Canon’s range of weather-resistant EF lenses – perfect for shooting in a range of weather conditions.
A built in Ethernet port allows for fast, easy transfer of images directly to a PC or via a network to clients from live events.

It's an amazing beast!
from Somerset, UK
About Me Semi-pro Photographer
Comments about Canon EOS 1D X Digital SLR Camera Body:
I had the chance to borrow a 1Dx on a few occasions, so I knew this beast could perform. For my sport and wildlife work I needed something with a higher frame rate than my 5D3 and good image quality in poor lighting conditions. The 1DX might be heavy, and expensive, but you get what you pay for. I dropped mine with a pro lens attached; eeeek! But as the body is of modular construction it was repaired (under my insurance) and looking like new very easily and was not as expensive as I thought. It's one heck of a camera, and it will take me some time to learn everything it is capable of, but it's going to be a great image- making journey along the way!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The best Canoon DSLR I've used
from North Wales
About Me Photo Enthusiast
I use this body for wildlife and landscapes though it would excel in photojournalism, portraits, sports and travel. It's a 1-series so it's built like a tank and water-sealed to repel the elements. The AF is the best I've used from Canon, far superior to the 7D/1DMkIV. You barely notice it when using the 1.4x III with a supertele (300/500/600).Of course this performance comes at a hefty price, but all in all it's worth it.
I would recommended the item

Upgraded from the 1Dmk4 to the 1DX. Price heavy I know but well worth it. Fantastic camera as you expect at the top end of Canon DSLR cameras. Get to know the custom functions and A/F settings and away you go.You must use L series lenses I would say to get the best out of both.Wonderful in low light, and high iso settings. Camera used for action sports and portraits. Full frame at it's best.

Designed for professional use
Designed for sports and photojournalism. This camera will get the shot, but it is no all rounder, so may not suit someone who shoots macro, street and landscape as well. I bought it to try sports photography. If it had two switchable megapixel levels, say cropped 18mp and full frame 23mp then it would be prefect but far too expensive as well. If you need the speed then buy it.

This camera is worth every cent. The sharpness of the image is fantastic, the overall performance is excellent. It performs really well and focusing is superb and always spot on. The only thing I would say I'm not so happy with is the fact that you have to press a button to change the shooting mode rather than a dial such as with lower models, but I can see where the design comes from. It takes a bit of getting used to when using the buttons that are in the place of the mode dial but again, not a major problem. Overall, the camera is brilliant and an all round winner.
The absolute Mutts
Without a shadow of doubt the best camera that I have ever laid my hands on. Image quality, low light capability, speed of autofocus are second to none. A truly fabulous piece of kit.

Best Camera I've ever had.
If you are coming from a normal camera, then it is a very steep learning curve - it has lots of custom functions that need to be understood to get the best out of it. If you come from another 1 Series or a Semi-pro camera (7D or 5D MkIII for example) then the controls and menu's will be similar. The focus is a massive step up from the 1DMkIII and the keeper rate is very high as a result. The file sizes are large. RAW are anything from 18Mb to 30Mb depending on the subject and ISO.I have mentioned heavy as a Con in the main points - it is not a light camera, but in keeping with modern Pro DSLR's. Coupled with a big lens and the balance is very good. Battery life is a lot better than the specs suggest - I've shot 2500 pictures with a reasonable amount of chimping in a day and the battery is still 50% charged.
Great bit of kit
Fantastic low light performance, shot a wedding with it a few weeks ago, the dancing was shot at 8000 iso, noise levels where similar to my old 1Ds mkII at 800 iso. shooting motorsport is simply brilliant, awesome frame rate and focusing! Its a heavy bit of kit, but I dont mind that. Well worth a look if you have the money.

The quality of the images and speed are fantastic.I have a 5Dmk 2 and much prefer the 1DXI like to travel but with weight restrictions for air travel its very heavy and cumbersome and would prefer in built GPS and wireless file transmitter. Would be good to advertise it on your Wex web site with all compatible lenses and accessories.
