- Yesterday I was given the opportunity to play with a Canon EOS-1D X. It was still one of the factory sample camera bodies so I wasn’t allowed to analyze the image or video quality. However, I was able to test out the new controls and experiment with many of the new features and functions.

Designed for professionals
The EOS-1D X offers a carefully revised version of the classic EOS-1 series design, with larger, more tactile buttons that make it easier for users to control settings – even in extreme conditions where gloves are required. Two multi-controllers and a touch-sensitive control wheel, for use in movie mode, make it easier to change settings, while a range of customisable function buttons allow users to set-up the camera to suit their individual needs by allowing shortcuts to the features and pre-sets they use most.
Built to last
The EOS-1D X offers a highly durable body constructed from high-grade magnesium alloy that provides protection against both the elements and the knocks of everyday use. The latest implementation of Canon’s EOS Integrated Cleaning System also uses technology adopted from Canon lenses, using wave-based vibrations similar to that of Ultrasonic Motors to shake dust and dirt from the sensor even more effectively.
An enhanced shutter mechanism also provides extended durability, providing 400K shutter cycles so photographers can rely on their camera to meet the challenge of repeated, demanding shoots. The EOS-1D X also features Canon’s protective sealing around the controls and cover seams, making the camera dust and water-resistant when combined with Canon’s range of weather-resistant EF lenses – perfect for shooting in a range of weather conditions.
A built in Ethernet port allows for fast, easy transfer of images directly to a PC or via a network to clients from live events.

Comments about Canon EOS 1D X Digital SLR Camera Body:
Traded in my 5Dmkii for this and got a good price to boot, was gonna go for a 7Dmkii but having got over £1000 trade in, a 1DX was too good an opportunity to miss. Was I happy when I got it you bet, I have a 5D3 so a lot of the controls are the same, just had to get used to the size and weight, but I love it. Took loads of images of my dog running up and down the garden, tack sharp over 95% of the time, if not more. The focusing on my 70-200mm 2.8 L IS II is just awesum. Also shot at a local cycle race, again the same. Just waiting for the football season to start, thats where this baby comes into it's own, and the reason I wanted one, because my 5D3 missed to many shots when it mattered. if you have the money and will use it, go for it, don't wait for the rumoured 1DX2, that may be some time off. Sure it's heavy, but thats part of it, you'll get lots of looks, people popping up to you asking questions, just be prepared to answer, but I really really love it. Fantastic piece of equipment, just sorry I never got one sooner.... now only if I had enough for a 400mm f2.8 to pair it up with. One day........soon
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Photo Enthusiast
Fabulous camera which is an upgrade from 5Dmk2. The speed an accuracy of focus is superb. The number of keepers of Birds in flight is fantastic. Grandchildrens sports day was fun taking 500 photos in a short time. Found it relatively easy to set up custom profiles and the help menu is good to use. I am 65 and have had no problems carrying it around for 5 hours. Although louder than 5D I do not see it as a problem.

I cannot add any thing to what has been writen about this camera before. But if I had one wish it would be for it to be a liitle lighter, when you mount the 100-400 lens, it almost creates it's own gravity field
The Best Ever
from West Country
I normally use this camera with long telephoto lenses due to my main interests in wildlife photography. The camera performs superbly in all focussing modes, and exposure is always spot on. In my opinion this camera is the best Canon has ever produced.
Great Camera For A Serious Shooter

About Me Pro Photographer
I've had this camera for just over 2 weeks now and I have used it quite a bit, its already taken just under 14,000 shots. I have had issues with excess dust on the sensor thats easy to remove with a sensor clean, I do theses myself with wet sensor swabs. I do love this camera as it works for my needs and the full frame is lovely when paired up with the brilliant auto focus system, I'm used to that as I've been shooting with my other camera which is the 5D mark III. The burst rate on the camera is amazing and has allowed me to shoot in high speed locations where I wouldn't normally be able to get some useable shots from. The buffer on this camera is amazing! I can shoot in large RAW on 60mb/s memory cards and it transfers the images onto that in no time, I don't need to wait around like on the 5D mark III that I have to wait for. For my settings it can do 25 RAW files and I could burst of 14-18 and within one second I'm back up to 25!! its amazing the processing power. I've had a few 1D series bodies and they have never been this fast. A few people seem to go on about this camera being on the heavy side but when your actually working with it you forget about that as your to focused on what you're doing. It is expensive but then again it is a flag ship camera not a entry level system and this camera shows that with its functions and outstanding build. I'm a motorsports photographer so I need something thats quick when I want it to be and also that will be able to put up with the work flow I put it under, plus I need something I can rely on to work every time. The only bad thing is the dust like I said before this will show up in your images at higher than f/8, it is a pain but if you can do the cleaning your self you can just add it to the mix when you clean the rest of your gear. I normally do mine after a event so once a week. I would still recommend this camera to a friend who was serious about there photography and needed a work horse of a camera.

AF focus in very dark conditions!
I do a lot of captive animal photography but also wildlife. A lot of enclosures are really dark, have bars and other obstacles in the way! Once the AF has locked on it pretty much stays stuck... I also own the 5D Mark III which is excellent as well. However the main difference was when I was in a very dark enclosure with a keeper and photographed her with the Tapir.. I was blown away with the AF!! Usually if there isn't enough light, you can't lock on BUT on ISO 6400 there was no issue whatsoever... absolutely staggered! Yes I had noise which on the Tapir didn't matter as the fur texture absorbed it, on the keeper's face, yes there was but was able to remove it with my normal software! So the main difference for me between the Mark III and 1DX is the AF function in extremely low light conditions and the speed... that camera is twice as fast, a real beast!! I tried out with a running tiger, I got so many more shots of paw action and the same with in flight hawks.. still staggered by this capability. However the down side is the weight and if I have the 300mm f/2.8 Mark II on, I do feel it. In all honesty though, when you are busy shooting, the feeling of the weight disappears... Yes it is loud, but it didn't bother the squirrels, cresties etc in the Highlands this year!!
It's an amazing beast!
from Somerset, UK
I had the chance to borrow a 1Dx on a few occasions, so I knew this beast could perform. For my sport and wildlife work I needed something with a higher frame rate than my 5D3 and good image quality in poor lighting conditions. The 1DX might be heavy, and expensive, but you get what you pay for. I dropped mine with a pro lens attached; eeeek! But as the body is of modular construction it was repaired (under my insurance) and looking like new very easily and was not as expensive as I thought. It's one heck of a camera, and it will take me some time to learn everything it is capable of, but it's going to be a great image- making journey along the way!
The best Canoon DSLR I've used
from North Wales
I use this body for wildlife and landscapes though it would excel in photojournalism, portraits, sports and travel. It's a 1-series so it's built like a tank and water-sealed to repel the elements. The AF is the best I've used from Canon, far superior to the 7D/1DMkIV. You barely notice it when using the 1.4x III with a supertele (300/500/600).Of course this performance comes at a hefty price, but all in all it's worth it.
I would recommended the item
from High Wycombe
Upgraded from the 1Dmk4 to the 1DX. Price heavy I know but well worth it. Fantastic camera as you expect at the top end of Canon DSLR cameras. Get to know the custom functions and A/F settings and away you go.You must use L series lenses I would say to get the best out of both.Wonderful in low light, and high iso settings. Camera used for action sports and portraits. Full frame at it's best.

Enjoying the sunny day
Designed for professional use
Designed for sports and photojournalism. This camera will get the shot, but it is no all rounder, so may not suit someone who shoots macro, street and landscape as well. I bought it to try sports photography. If it had two switchable megapixel levels, say cropped 18mp and full frame 23mp then it would be prefect but far too expensive as well. If you need the speed then buy it.
