November 2011 - "Yesterday I was given the opportunity to play with a Canon EOS-1D X. It was still one of the factory sample camera bodies so I wasn’t allowed to analyze the image or video quality. However, I was able to test out the new controls and experiment with many of the new features and functions." Read more about the Canon EOS 1D X here...

18.1 MP full frame CMOS sensor
A Canon 18.1 MP full frame CMOS sensor delivers stunning performance, producing exceptional low noise, high-resolution images even in the darkest conditions. The full frame sensor delivers optimum results from wide-angle lenses and gives you greater control over depth of field. Image resolution exceeds the quality demanded by leading photo agencies - making it ideal for extra large prints up to A2 size, even after cropping.
Super high speed shooting
Capture every second of the action with up to 12fps continuous shooting, increasing to an incredible 14fps in Super High speed shooting with continuous bursts of up to 120 large JPEG images (36 RAW).
Huge ISO range
An exceptionally wide ISO range of 100 to 51200 – expandable up to an incredible ISO 204800 – means shooting need never stop from the brightest conditions right through to near darkness.
61 point AF system
A high-precision 61 point AF system, featuring 41 high sensitivity cross type sensors, delivers fast, accurate focussing of fast moving subjects – whatever the lighting conditions. The centre 5 AF points are dual cross type for added precision.
Consistent, accurate metering
A 100,000 pixel RGB AE metering system with a dedicated DIGIC 4 processor measures not only brightness but also colour to ensure highly accurate exposure for natural results even in complex lighting situations.
Full HD EOS movies
Shoot Full HD (1080p) video with a wide range of user selectable controls on a DSLR including exposure, frame rates, audio and compression control. An HDMI output allows High Definition playback of footage and images.
Dual “DIGIC 5+” processors
Canon’s latest generation Dual “DIGIC 5+” processors deliver the fastest and most advanced image processing to date for best-in-class image quality. Working with 4 A/D converters to provide 14-bit image processing for smooth tonal gradations and natural looking colours as well as advanced Noise Reduction at higher ISO speeds.
Large, anti-reflective LCD
A high-resolution 1,040k-dot 3.2” Clear View II LCD screen, allows easy, accurate review of images and video. Superbly durable, an anti-reflective, hardened glass structure prevents reflections even in the brightest sunlight.
Designed for professionals
The EOS-1D X offers a carefully revised version of the classic EOS-1 series design, with larger, more tactile buttons that make it easier for users to control settings – even in extreme conditions where gloves are required. Two multi-controllers and a touch-sensitive control wheel, for use in movie mode, make it easier to change settings, while a range of customisable function buttons allow users to set-up the camera to suit their individual needs by allowing shortcuts to the features and pre-sets they use most.
Built to last
The EOS-1D X offers a highly durable body constructed from high-grade magnesium alloy that provides protection against both the elements and the knocks of everyday use. The latest implementation of Canon’s EOS Integrated Cleaning System also uses technology adopted from Canon lenses, using wave-based vibrations similar to that of Ultrasonic Motors to shake dust and dirt from the sensor even more effectively.
An enhanced shutter mechanism also provides extended durability, providing 400K shutter cycles so photographers can rely on their camera to meet the challenge of repeated, demanding shoots. The EOS-1D X also features Canon’s protective sealing around the controls and cover seams, making the camera dust and water-resistant when combined with Canon’s range of weather-resistant EF lenses – perfect for shooting in a range of weather conditions.
A built in Ethernet port allows for fast, easy transfer of images directly to a PC or via a network to clients from live events.

About Me Semi-pro Photographer
Comments about Canon EOS 1D X Digital SLR Camera Body:
The quality of the images and speed are fantastic.I have a 5Dmk 2 and much prefer the 1DXI like to travel but with weight restrictions for air travel its very heavy and cumbersome and would prefer in built GPS and wireless file transmitter. Would be good to advertise it on your Wex web site with all compatible lenses and accessories.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Struggles to achieve Canon 1Ds Mk2 IQ
from London W1
Try (suggest rental for a good few day' workouts) before you buy. Compare others - esp at price. Disappoimted with IQ compared with my eight year old 1Ds Mk 2.Love the speed and wide range of focus options. Love the strength and well-used to the weight.

I am still exploring the many attributes of this camera, but it does allow the user to just point-and-shoot successfully or step up and hone your skills to a whole new level. The 1Dx really is a breathtaking piece of kit.
Ladies, don't be scared of it!
About Me Pro Photographer
You've read all the usual reviews so you know that's it the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it weighs a ton and costs a fortune. Is it worth the effort?Yes, it's heavy but it's well balanced and if you're holding it correctly it doesn't weigh as much as a babe in arms. One of the nicest things is that it has a duplicate shutter button and other key controls on the bottom right hand side of the camera, so when you turn it for portrait mode, you can use that set of buttons.Changing modes is easy without taking your eye off the ball as all the key info is visible in the view finder.I'm not planning to use it for day to day portrait work but for my low light work such as events, evening wedding receptions and stage shows, and rather than sports photography my high speed work will be ballerinas and gymnasts. If you're a professional photographer you need the best kit. And this is it.

Great all round product
By Bob Page
I bought this camera as an upgrade from my Canon 5D Mk 2 and EOS 1D Mark IV camera body. Why have two body's when the 1D X covers both aspects! Full frame sensor for Macro photography, which I enjoyed with the 5D Mk 2,and Fast Shutter Speeds for photography of wildlife as used by the EOS 1D Mark IV. However the Low light ISO performance from this camera is game changing. Taking pictures in which you think is poor light, the ISO quality is amazing, with virtually no noise at ISO 1600 and above. The only thing which suprised me was the Loud Shutter noise, a very small fault in a superb camera. For me the 1D X is the perfect camera which doesn't compromise on anything.
Wish I could afford another one
By Mr Fudge the cat
Traded up from a 5D MkII and the difference between them is like day and night. It took some convincing to persuade me that a lower pixel count would be better. It is. The noise levels at high ISO settings are very low I have had good results at 1600 ISO. The build quality is second to none and its built like a tank. The downside is the weight but you cant have it both ways.
A brilliant piece of kit

I'm in love.
I run a commercial photography business and do a wide range of contracts from product, architectural, people and events. As such I need a camera that is versatile over a very wide range of applications - for me the 1DX is the perfect camera which doesn't compromise on anything. It is quick, accurate, robust, and is just quite simply a dream to use.I have two of these cameras and can honestly say that I have never been so excited about my equipment. Having owned a 1DS II, 1DS III and 1D IV previously (Nikon owner until Canon left them behind with full-frame digital), I have seen the Canon pro series develop and really think that Canon has come of age with the 1DX. This is as good as digital photography need ever get. The only feature that I would like to see on the next generation of these cameras is a silent shutter (and with little compromise on shutter release / lag time whilst I'm asking for a lot). Other than that, it perhaps doesn't need updating until 3D photography becomes the norm.If you're thinking of buying one of these, don't try justifying it to yourself or others by comparing technical specs. Realistically there's not that much in it. Just like you wouldn't justify buying a porsche by referring to it's 0-60. Who cares if it does it in 5 seconds compared to the cheaper brand that does it in 5.5 or even 4.5, the fact of the matter is that it's a beautifully made machine built to the highest standards and every time you get behind it you'll think about how lucky you are and how amazing it feels. If you can afford a 1DX and want it, just buy it. You'll never regret it.
Great product and service
It requires little training, but afterwards it is easy to use. I use the camera in many different situations and I am getting at high percentage of sharp pictures and nice colors. As always Canon has made a winner. I am 100% satisfied. If you need a silent camera, it is not the right choice.
