The Canon EOS 60Da DSLR is specifically designed for astrophotography and is based on the highly specified Canon 60D and 20Da cameras. The Canon 60Da features a modified low-pass filter with increased hydrogen-alpha sensitivity that is approximately three times higher than that of a normal DSLR camera. The IR filter sits in front of the 18 megapixel CMOS sensor and makes it possible for astronomers and hobbyists to capture light wavelengths emitted by deep space gasses that are normally blocked by the filters in standard DSLRs, an essential modification to allow users to capture images of nebulae (gas clouds) in space. The Canon 60Da is equipped with a versatile 3.0” vari-angle LCD, a powerful DIGIC 4 imaging processor and an extendable ISO range of up to 12,800, the same features found in the Canon 60D. The Canon EOS 60Da Digital SLR is designed to provide a combination of high resolution, low noise and creative flexibility when shooting stars and deep space gases. The Key Features
- Core specification based on high performance EOS 60D
- Optical construction optimised for astrophotography
- High resolution, high image quality and low noise during long exposures
- High signal-to-noise data in final output
- Advanced High ISO noise control in combination with DIGIC 4 processing
- 7.7cm (3.0”) Vari-angle Clear View LCD screen (3:2 aspect ratio) with sharp 1,040k resolution
- Enhanced sensitivity to infrared light
- 18 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor
- Focus easily from any angle with Live View
- New IR filter offers increased transparency for Ha wavelengths – 3x increase on EOS 60Dv
- Versatile 100-6400 ISO range (further extendable to 12800)
- Record time-lapse sequences with optional TC-80N3
- Extensive flexibility with EOS System lenses and accessories
- AC Adaptor ACK-E6 allows continued shooting using mains power
- Battery Grip BG-E9 – extended power ideal for astrophotography
Cautions for general use:
When shooting subjects with lots of long wavelength (Red) photographs appear more red than they should. Shooting normal subjects is not recommended.
60Da Overview:
The EOS 60Da has been developed to meet the needs of the astro-photographer – delivering increased sensitivity to IR light, high image resolution and low levels of noise. Intuitive design features – such as a Vari-angle 7.7cm (3.0”) 3:2 Clear View screen – allows ease of operation when the camera is attached to a telescope or mounted on a tripod. The supplied EOS Utility software allows the EOS 60Da to be controlled from a PC or Mac computer.
Seeing in infrared
The EOS 60Da’s optical low-pass filter has been optimised to transmit more of the Ha light that is often the brightest visible light in stellar photography. This allows better reproduction of various phenomena, such as diffuse nebulae. Compared with the conventional EOS 60D, three times more light at 656nm is transmitted through the optical low passfilter of the EOS 60Da. That’s 1.5x more than previous astrophotography DSLRs, such as the EOS 20Da.
Sensitivity to long-wavelength light
Based on the popular EOS 60D camera, the EOS 60Da features enhanced sensitivity to H-a long-wavelength light, making it ideal for applications in astronomy. A modified low-pass optical filter improves recording of infrared phenomena, such as diffuse nebulae, by approximately three times compared to EOS 60D.
High Resolution
Capture high-resolution photographs that are full of detail. An 18-megapixel CMOS sensor works with a 14-bit DIGIC 4 image processor to deliver images that are low in noise, even when shooting with long exposures or at high ISO sensitivity (max ISO 6400, expandable to ISO 12,800).
Vari-angle LCD
Compose, focus and shoot from any angle with a Vari-angle 7.7cm (3.0”) 3:2 Clear View LCD screen, even with the camera attached to a telescope.
Time lapse shooting
For time-lapse shooting, the EOS 60Da is compatible with the optional TC-80N3 remote control (using the supplied RA-E3 adaptor). Remote camera control and tethered shooting is possible from any PC or Mac computer using the supplied EOS Utility software.
Live view focusing
Focusing on a dimly lit sky using an optical viewfinder can be difficult, but the EOS 60Da’s live view mode makes sharp focus easy to find. Magnify any part of the scene by 5x or 10x to ensure critical sharpness is obtained.

The Buy Now Pay Later option comprises a 36 month loan following a six month deferral period.
During the six-month deferral period, it is possible to pay off the loan, either by way of a lump sum or in smaller amounts. If the loan is partially repaid within six months, the remaining interest will be adjusted to reflect the new balance. If the loan is fully repaid within the six-month deferral period, then no interest is payable, however, a £29 early settlement fee is payable in respect of repayments within these six months.
Following the six-month deferral period, Novuna Personal Finance will initiate a monthly direct debit payment for the remaining duration of the loan. Interest will be charged at a rate of 18.9% APR on outstanding balances (backdated to the first date of the loan). Novuna Personal Finance will send a reminder letter approximately one month before the six-month deferral period is due to elapse.
