Canon ET 83 for EF70-200mm f2.8L USM
Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
Dedicated lens hoods are designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

Other than the usual gripe about the price of a bit of plastic the only difficulty I have is that other lens hoods I use I can reverse and that makes it easier to put the camera in a bag. I can't do that with this one.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
