If you own a Canon 70-200mm f/4 L USM or a Canon 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM, to make either of these lenses even better, add a Canon Tripod Mount Ring A II (W). The Canon Tripod Mount Ring A II (W)'s main purpose is to provide a better balance when mounted on a tripod.

Comments about Canon Lens Tripod Mount Ring A II W:
After purchasing an L series lens, I was looking for a secure way of attaching it to my tripod and monopod. Balance was likely to be a problem so using the normal mounting position below the camera was not on the agenda. I nearly died when I saw the price of the Canon offering but I had read a lot of reviews on the third party offerings and was not convinced enough to go that route. The main problems were1. The possible scratching of the lens body2. Insecure fixing allowing the lens to swivel in the grip.3. Very tight fit on the lens producing fitting problems.4. All or a combination of the above from most who reviewed them. 5. Add this to the list. Inconsistency somewhere in the manufacturing process. The reviewers of the Canon item had no such problems. So swallow hard and buy. I must say that had there been any hint of a problem it would have gone straight back. As you can probably guess there were no problems ...... atall. Just Canon quality from one end to the other and yes it fits perfectly and grips exactly as it is meant to. It also releases properly allowing the camera to swivel, any where between portrait and land scape or any where else you may want to fix your camera. In short it's pricey but quality and well up to the job and I won't doubt Canon again. If your worried about how to mount your lens on your tripod then buy this item and save yourself possibly a lot of grief.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
I think this item is very well made and it certainly does the job of holding the Canon 70-200 F4 steady when used with a tripod. The downside is of course the cost, it is far too expensive for what it is. I read lots of negative reviews of cheaper alternatives, which is why I ending up with the genuine Canon version.
Expensive, but solid
from Tunbridge Wells
Expensive for what it is, but is very solid and allows smooth movement when loosened. This (just) fits with a gripped body (7D and 5D MkII), but there isn't much space between the foot of the collar and the grip for your fingers.
Quality, at a price...
Beautifully made, far better than aftermarket imitation; provides stable support. The big BUT is that quality comes at a massive premium: Canon should include this with an L-series lens.

WEX/CANON VERSUS 3RD PARTY OFFEREINGS

BOUGHT A THIRD PART OFFERING THROUGH [...] AROUND £18 INC POSTAGE PLASTIC!!!!!!!!!!! THEN BOUGHT THE CANON ONE TRU WEX I REALISED I HAD JUST WASTED £18 TRUST THE PROFFESSIONALS NO CONTEST WEX OR CANON. ABSOLUTELY ROCK STEADY.
Expensive but does the trick
This is an expensive product but necessary if you want stability on a heavier lens. It's a great shame this is not provided as part of the lens kit.
