This is my first A3+ printer and I'm really impressed with it. I've used high quality A4 printers from Canon and HP but the Pixma Pro-1 is in a completely different league. With a bit of care the print quality is simply outstanding. Scaling up to A3+ at such high quality is really showing up the flaws in my photography! Colours are smooth, deep and consistent, and I've not yet had any need to create custom profiles. The extra black inks make all the difference in monochrome prints, with smooth greys and minimal metameric shift.
Out-of-the-box my first few prints were on the dark side, but it took very little tweaking to sort this - anyone familiar with PS, Lightroom or similar should have no problems at all. Getting the best out of it will take a little time and experimentation - this is true of any serious printer!
I honestly didn't find the setup particularly complicated, though getting it up to my office was a challenge. Be aware, this printer really is enormous and very, very heavy. This is my only gripe - it takes up more than half my desk!
No printer comes with a USB cable, and few products with a print manual - complaints about these are just nitpicking.
Canon offer ICC profiles for art paper, which saves a lot of trial and error, and it's produced excellent results from the cheaper papers I've used. Printing is quiet and quick and so far it's been no thirstier than any other quality inkjet.

I am not a pro-photographer but I am a Pro-IT specialist. I have built and installed dozens of printers and I found this complicated. It is not a simple unpack and switch on affair. The system does a full self check every time it is switched on and more often than not I have had to fix a problem before I can print.

Once the printer is configured and operating it is trivial to use which is good because it has virtually no controls. I made the mistake of testing it with some cheap paper I had around without establishing the correct profiles and ended up with a soggy mess. However, buy some quality paper and the output is superb. I have used the Pixma A4 range and a 9500 and printing the same image from the Pro1 looks so much better.

This printer is very quiet. It is very good for B/W images with the 5 "Blacks." 12 inks sounds good

I'm generally an avid supporter of Canon gear - got lots of it. Also usually rate WEX highly. Looking at internet reviews, this printer rocks. However, in reality my old Canon iP4600 produces far better pictures than this - at a tenth of the cost. I wouldn't put pictures produced by this printer on my garage wall - very dark with loss of detail in shadows (the picture not my garage). Currently trying to resolve via Canon support. This printer should perform great, right out of the box. I'm guessing it's a duff batch! This is my worse purchase ever. Hope Canon can sort out, otherwise it's a claim on WEX. Very inconvenient, but we will get there.

Having purchased this expensive product, I had to go to Canon to get help with settings.
They said they do not supply a manual as it would be over 1000 pages, Yet they expect us "the customer" to sit and try and read it online as we work. We cannot set it up without a manual and we cannot get it onscreen until we have the product up and running For the price it should have a manual. I have yet to be convinced of how good it is as without help in setting up the advanced settings I cannot know. So far prints done via photoshop and a calibrated monitor have not matched so I am disappointed

Set up was fine but took a while, however lack of a proper manual to have in front of you is disappointing, as well as no usb cable provided despite hefty price. Having calibrated my monitor before printing I have found results so far no better than what I get from my old pixma 6600.
