The Datacolor SpyderLensCal provides a fast, reliable method of measuring the focus performance on your camera and lens combinations. Photographers have enjoyed the benefit of autofocus for over 25 years now, but many still struggle with its accuracy and repeatability.
Many newer DSLR cameras now offer a method to correct this issue by allowing you to store auto-focus correction data for several of your most important lenses. The Datacolor SpyderLensCal allows photographers to obtain razor-sharp focusing or check to see that their lenses are working at their peak performance. This device is compact, lightweight and durable, with integrated level and tri-pod mount. More

Comments about Datacolor SpyderLensCal:
Great little item. Got this with my new lens. Easy to set up and ended up adjusting my lens by +7 . A little time consuming but very worth it.

About Me Outdoor Professional
Wildlife photographs hinge on razor sharp focus often using AF for high speed sequences. Manufacturer tolerances of lens and body can summate to give less than sharp images.A couple of hours can"blueprint" your camera bodies and lenses to your AF system resulting in improved and more consistent results.Cost? For the number of times you micro adjust your equipment it appears expensive. Assuming pro body and pro lens give tack sharpness for around £5000+ this gadget is less than 1% and can be used as often as necessary.
Functional but a bit small
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Good construction and easy to use. I found it a bit small, particularly the ruled strip that measures the focal point. At F4 the range of lines out of focus was quite wide, making it difficult to assess if the focus micro adjustment was set right. How're I think this would be much better for faster lenses.

This is a great product, giving peace of mind as regards Back & Front focus. Not something I use every day, but a tool to let me check any lens if I am not sure of it's accuracy.

About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast, Professional
This is an excellent product for adjusting fine focus in my Nikon DSLR cameras. Almost essential if you require to check that your lenses are focusing correctly. Easy to set up & use and quite well made.Certainly does the job very well. I have checked the majority of my lenses & made several fine adjustments to improve the focus accuracy on three lenses. Just excellent.

About Me Professional
The instructions for this were not great (ie distance from lenses and at what end of the telezoom etc). I ended off using online instructional video's to get the best use out of it and even then, it was of no real use. Lenses still needed to be calibrated professionally.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Something that works and is easy to use.

I like this product because it does exactly what it says on the tin.
Spyder lens cal
This is simple to use and best results are achieved by using a lap top/desk top to review your images. It may need a few test shots to ensure good alignment. Constant lighting gives better results. Use twice a year to ensure accurate auto focus. Well worth the money. Some lenses were well out and were back focusing. Some were front focusing. My lenses now give 100% accurate auto focus alignment.
Excellent for calibrating lenses
Excellent tool for calibrating lenses, very easy setup!! Cant go wrong for the price
Simple but effective
Expensive for what it is but it does the job very well.I've used other methods of tuning lenses before (taking a picture of a ruler on my desk from an angle) but this is a better option. It's a good item to share amongst a group of friends as it's not needed much beyond the initial tuning exercises.
