The Fuji FinePix X100S is the successor to the well-received Fuji X100 (released in June 2011), inheriting its classic retro design and bright, fixed focal length 23mm f/2 lens, yet incorporating some important enhancements that will grab your attention. The X100S is equipped with a newly developed 16.3 megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor and an EXR processor II, which enables fast capture of 16 megapixel stills at 6fps and full HD 1920x1080p video shooting at 60fps. The X100S offers a lightning fast AF speed of 0.8 seconds plus a variety of manual focus assist modes. The hybrid viewfinder offers expanded freedom in composition enabling you to shoot in a wide range of demanding shooting conditions. The Hybrid Viewfinder offers you the brightness and clarity of an optical viewfinder with the benefit of digital viewfinder information display and allows you to instantly switch between an optical viewfinder (OVF) and an electronic viewfinder (EVF). June 2013 - For my mind, Fujifilm is once again raising the bar with this camera. Not only is it technically well grounded, but it produces amazing images. And you know what? It’s fun to use. It’s a feel-good camera.

Reignite the joy of photography
Explore new angles of photography. Experience photography with a viewfinder that incorporates the cutting edge of Fujifilm technology! Through the viewfinder, your eye finds the freedom to compose your shot in a wide field of view and the luxury of a bright, clear view of the scene. Here is the pleasure of focusing on your subject, and the endless fascination of exploring the scene from every angle.
Sensor performance comparable to full-frame output
Featuring FUJIFILM’s newly-developed 16.3 megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor with a unique, highly randomised, colour filter arrangement. X-Trans CMOS II incorporates an original colour filter array with a highly random pattern, eliminating the need for an optical low-pass filter (OLPF). These filters are typically used in conventional systems to inhibit moiré, but they also reduce resolution.
The X-Trans CMOS II's pixel array lets the sensor capture unfiltered light from the lens, achieving an unprecedented level of resolution. In addition, utilising the enhanced performance of the EXR Processor II, Lens Modulation Optimiser (LMO) factors are calculated to compensate for aberrations and diffraction blur that occur when light passes through the lens and then are applied to produce images with amazing sharpness.
Bright Fujinon 23mm f/2 fixed focal length lens
Stunning image quality without compromise, packed into a slim compact body... These were the highest objectives when the FUJIFILM X100S was being developed! And they have been achieved through the incorporation of a newly developed, non-interchangeable, non-collapsible, fixed focal length lens. While featuring the generous brightness of a maximum f/2 aperture, the large-diameter rear lens group is integrated into the body for an ultra-slim profile. In addition, the optimisation of the sensor for this special lens fully exploits the advantage of a fixed focal length lens for superior edge-to-edge image quality.
Full HD 1920x1080 Video Shooting at 60fps
Full HD Movie (1920 x 1080) mode features 60fps for smoother capture of the action in full high definition. Shooting movies at the high bit-rate of 36Mbps results in enhanced image quality and clarity that reveals every detail from individual leaves in the trees to subtle changes in facial expression. You can also take advantage of Monochrome and the vivid colour expression of other Film Simulation modes, and exploit the brightness of the lens to shoot movies with a “bokeh” effect.
The World’s fastest Auto Focus and High-speed EXR Processing
Equipped with both the super fast phase detection AF system, and contrast AF for accurate focusing in dark scenes, Intelligent Hybrid AF instantly switches to the optimal focusing system. Applying the fastest algorithm depending on the subject and scene, Intelligent Hybrid AF can bring your subject into focus in just 0.08 sec*.
*Fujifilm research as of November 2012 based on CIPA guidelines and conducted in“High Performance” mode.
Enhanced manual focus performance with the world’s first (*5) ‘Digital Split Image’ display
Making use of the built-in phase detection pixels for AF action, the X100S is the world’s first (*5) camera to offer a “Digital Split Image” feature, which overlays two images and allows you to line them up. This enables accurate focusing especially when working with an open aperture or macro shooting.
*5 Fujifilm research as of November 2012
In addition, the X100S offers a handy Focus Peak Highlight function, which emphasises the outline of the subject focus plane. It provides the photographer with a guide, even in situations where it is difficult to calculate focusing accuracy, allowing users to enjoy manual focusing comfortably, however challenging the conditions.
High-speed continuous shooting
Maximum high-speed continuous shooting speed of 6fps (max. 29 frames). Shoot at a maximum burst speed of 6 fps at full 16 megapixel resolution to capture a series of exposures of moving subjects and other challenging photographic scenes.
Perfected fusion of Optical and Electronic Viewfinder
There's an indescribable pleasure that peering through a viewfinder provides. Now Fujifilm have taken this further with the launch of the newly developed Hybrid Viewfinder. Whether you're framing your shot through the Optical Viewfinder (OVF), or Electronic Viewfinder (EVF), your eye will not only see the subject and scene, but also a range of shooting data projected by an integrated high-definition LCD panel. It's the perfect marriage of intuitive analogue operation and state-of-the-art digital functionality to deliver the ultimate picture taking experience.
Stylish, yet functional design
The design of the X100S resembles the cameras of the film age, and there is wisdom that has been passed down behind it. This gives the X100S commonality that transcends the ages. The X100S is designed to enable you to “quickly” capture that moment you wish to document.
Q (Quick menu) button - easy access to all shooting settings
Press the Q (Quick menu) button and skip directly to a choice of ISO sensitivity, Film Simulation and other frequently used shooting menus. Then just use the selector button and the main or sub command dial to choose a menu and make settings even while shooting.
When you hold the camera for a shot, your left hand naturally controls the aperture ring and your right comfortably finds the shutter speed dial. Everything is ideally positioned so you can concentrate on composing your shot. You are in complete control with a choice of aperture priority AE, shutter speed priority AE, program AE and manual exposure control.
“T” (Time) & “B” (Bulb) Long Exposure Modes
Turn the shutter speed dial to “T”, set a time between 1/2 and 30 seconds (1/3EV steps), and the countdown begins. In “B” mode, you can keep the shutter open for a maximum of 60 minutes.
Easy-to-use AE/AF Lock button
With a touch of the AE/AF Lock button on the back of the camera body, you can lock both exposure and focus for the subject. Using the setup menu, you can also set the button to lock just AE or AF.
High performance LCD monitor
2.8-inch, 460K-dot LCD with high contrast, high brightness and the convenience of a wide viewing angle on the LCD, you can view the same image displayed in the electronic viewfinder. You can also switch it to show a simple shooting data display.
The X100S has a diverse range of functions that include film simulation, RAW shooting, multiple exposure, motion panorama and advanced filters.
Artistic photography made fun and simple with advanced filters
Featuring a choice of 8 artistic effects, FUJIFILM's advanced filters make it easy to transform your photo into a work of art. Before you press the shutter, you can preview the effect on the LCD monitor. Manual control of the filters also lets you fine-tune brightness.
The high precision 14-bit RAW data format lets you record moments with richer tonality and captures more detail.
In-camera RAW converter
The FUJIFILM X100S's built-in RAW data converter lets you view and edit your results without the need for your PC. The conversion of RAW data not only takes into account exposure compensation, white balance and other in-camera image quality control settings, but also lets the user apply Film Simulation modes in the converter mode.
Select from the broad sensitivity range of ISO100-25600 for shooting at full 16 megapixel resolution. The FUJIFILM X100S also lets you set the AUTO ISO range (up to ISO 6400) and the shutter speed limit. For quick access to ISO settings, you can assign this function to the Fn or Q Button.
As you sweep the camera across the scene, the FUJIFILM X100S captures multiple images and seamlessly stitches them together into a single panoramic photo. Even when enlarged to an A3-size print, there is virtually no loss of resolution. Holding the camera horizontally or vertically, Motion Panorama lets you shoot 120° or 180° views.
Powerful built-in auto bracketing aunctions
Giving you the choice of 4 different auto bracketing functions (AE, ISO Sensitivity, Dynamic Range and Film Simulation), the FUJIFILM X100S lets you experience a wide world of photographic expression.
Eye-Fi card compatibility
The X100S supports Eye-Fi SD memory cards with built-in WiFi for easy wireless transfer of image data to your personal computer or tablet device. As you shoot, your photos can be swiftly uploaded and safely stored.

About Me Getting started
Comments about Fuji FinePix X100S Digital Camera - Silver:
Bought camera as a first 'proper' camera. Easy to use from the box with automatic settings but there is much more to learn using the manual settings. I use it mainly when out and about and to take pictures of family. Excellent photo quality and good intuitive design.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Casual user
Great quality pictures and very simple to use.Cool retro looks.Fixed lens is actually a great bonus as it makes you think about the subject and composition rather than lazily relying on a zoom. Not cheap but great value
My hate/love relationship with the X100s
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
I have had this camera for a year now. At first it was love at first sight, then within a couple of weeks I hated it. But now that we have been together for a year I love it again. The main reason for this love/hate/love relationship is that there was a steep learning curve to endure before I felt totally comfortable with the camera, but I persisted and it was well worth it!The camera is a real delight to use, once you have mastered the menu system and various buttons and dials - just look at the other reviews here and elsewhere on-line.It is certainly not a camera for everyone, as it takes some getting used to a fixed focal length camera if you are used to interchangeable lenses and/or zoom lenses. But if you can master this wonderful camera, it will change the way you think as a photographer for the better.
Great digital camera with a retro feel
Love the look and feel of this camera and it produces fabulous images!

I tortured myself with dozens of reviews before taking the plunge. I liked the X100 but there were too many issues and the dreadful manual focus was a deal breaker. Fuji listened to all the feedback and in this second version the X100s, managed to get everything right. The big question you have to ask yourself, is whether you can cope with a fixed lens. It's all well and good to kid yourself that it makes you more creative (and it does) or that it stops you from being lazy (and it does that too) but if you need to shoot something far away, you just cannot get there without physically walking towards it. I know that's obvious but it is the only serious limitation of this great little camera. I tended to haul my DSLR with three lenses everywhere and then return home having only used one of them. When you're out wanting photos but not exclusively to photograph, DSLR's are a bind and it's easy to leave them at home. This little camera has been with me every day since I bought it, I still use my DSLR but only when I need its features. The fixed lens is of excellent quality and the ability to shoot at f/2 means that you can shoot practically in the dark without flash. The built-in flash is incredibly good and seems to just get it right. The X100s copes well at high ISO but my D3s copes better, as you would expect. The sensor, although not full frame, is similar to cropped DSLR sensors and 16mp is more than enough resolution. The camera handles beautifully and is nice in the hand. My only moan is the ease with which you may turn the exposure compensation dial by accident, so I tend to check that each time. While I'm on moans, the battery life is great but carry a spare, as the battery life indicator has two settings: Full and Dead. The space in between is never used. I bought a couple of non-Fuji replacement batteries that were as cheap as chips and if anything they last longer. One little thing, the camera is beautiful and people are always curious to know what it is. Another advantage that I was unprepared for, was the way in which people are not intimidated by it, as they often are by the bulk of a DSLR. It is easier to get natural reactions from subjects rather than mugging or the hamburger smile and it is far easier to shoot without being noticed. I have bought the wide lens and the leather case, they are both excellent but the wide lens was probably an extravagance. It does rather stick out from the body and does not dramatically change the field of view, so that has gathered dust. I haven't mentioned the optical viewfinder, I should because it is lovely to use. I wanted image quality in a small form factor and it delivers on both counts. Overall, I am really pleased by this product, it may be niche and has even been described as boutique but underneath that retro cool is a reliable workhorse that is small in size but packs a big punch.

Great Camera. Full Stop!!!
About Me Professional
There is a lot to like about this camera. Picture quality is excellent, quality of the lens is very good, buttons and menus feel natural and user friendly. Design and look is both classic and modern and turns heads as well as turns out excellent looking images. This is coming from an X-Pro1 user so more or less feels intuitive in its use and design. Great camera to have for everyday use and in a more professional capacity. I think Fuji should filter down some of these features into a more consumer friendly fixed lens camera, it is expensive but it feels like a premium camera and for the first time in the digital world I feel like I have a camera for life. Also got the new fuji case which is a good fit and looks very smart too. Highly recommended.

RETRO STYLING MODERN QUALITY
By Jason Dodd
I looked in to the X-Pro series and the 100XS, big difference is the Pro series have interchangeable lenses including some top quality prime lenses and the 100XS had a fixed 23mm (35mm equivalent) F2 lens. With lugging two 1D's around all the time with a mix of lenses the fixed lens X100S appealed more and after looking at the results from it I was more then impressed with its overall quality and design. The camera feels like the old AE-1 Canon my Dad owned back in the late 70's (which he still owns!). It feels solid and the mix of retro and up to date digital built in processing effects give it a nice mix of the old and the new.The camera has recently been launched with the "S" model which gives it a 16.3 megapixel APS-CX trans CMOS II sensor and EXR processor, all sounds very high tech, in a nutshell it produces cracking results even in JPEG format which produce sharp and realistic skin tones. It shoots in RAW as well and can even capture 6 frames per second, not that this is the true use of this camera. It fits in for me as a great reportage and portrait camera, shooting at 35mm feels natural and the F2 lens is superb, great macro facility as well which goes as close as four inches. You can also switch between an electronic viewfinder and the optical viewfinder. The camera can be used in full manual control which is the main selling point for me. Only had the camera for a day but looking forward to using alongside the 1D's. I opted for the silver/black finish but a black finish is available for another £100, prefer the sliver for the ultimate retro feel.

It has taken me a few days to get use to some of the features but it is so worth it. I am in the process of sorting out the features that I want to use most of the time, to suit my needs. I look forward to great times with this camera.
