The Fuji X-E1 Digital Camera is the second mirrorless compact system camera to join the remarkable X-Series and has many of the advanced features as the high-end Fuji X-Pro1. The Fuji X-E1 includes a built-in neat pop-up flash in a smaller body and yet still houses the same powerful 16MP X-Trans CMOS sensor and EXR Pro image processor as the X-Pro1. The X-E1 with classic retro X-series design offers an intuitive control layout and interface in a body that’s elegant, easy portable and lightweight. Choose the view to suit your style of shooting as the X-E1 is equipped with a bright, detailed 2.36M-dot OLED electronic viewfinder (with 100% coverage) and a 2.8" 460k dot LCD screen. What's more, the X-E1 achieves extra quick response times so you’ll never miss a shot. Other features include the ability to use an electronic shutter release cable via the USB port, full HD 1080p movie recording, a microphone socket, a hot shoe mount, 6fps high speed shooting, full manual control, and a wide ISO range of 100-25,600. X-Trans CMOS Sensor – Extra high quality image capture
The X-E1's sensor is the same high-performance 16 megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS found in the X Series flagship X-Pro1 model. Featuring Fujifilm's unique colour filter array with its highly random pixel arrangement, the X-Trans CMOS sensor eliminates the need for an optical low-pass filter, which is used in conventional systems to inhibit moiré at the expense of resolution. The innovative array lets the X-Trans CMOS sensor capture unfiltered light from the lens and produce unprecedented resolution. The uniquely random arrangement of the colour filter array is also highly effective in enhancing noise separation in high-sensitivity photography. Another advantage of the large APS-C sensor is the ability to create a beautiful “bokeh”effect – the aesthetic out-of-focus effect created when shooting with a shallow depth of field.
High-definition and high-luminance 2.36 million dot OLED electronic viewfinder
By combining its class-leading OLED electronic viewfinder with FUJIFILM's advanced optical technology, the X-E1 offers a bright, extra-wide, field of vision which can be seen at a glance. Adopting an optical structure of two glass lenses and a double aspheric lens, the viewfinder provides a comfortable and natural view of the entire scene with an Horizontal apparent field of view of 25°. FUJIFILM’s optical engineers have achieved a distortion-free view with astounding edge-to-edge clarity and maintained an excellent field of vision even if the photographer’s eye position shifts. The X-E1 offers a diopter correction dial that enables users to adjust the strength of the viewfinder in accordance with their eyesight. The dial is located on the side of the viewfinder and can be adjusted from -4m-1 - +2m-1 (dtp). With a resolution of approx. 2.36 million dots and 100% coverage, the X-E1 display panel provides a superbly detailed image to perfectly frame and focus your shots. The rich colours of OLED technology and the high contrast ratio of 1:5000*1, provide exposure, white balance and film simulation settings with high fidelity, and let you see exactly what you are doing.
Classical design for intuitive operation
Made in Japan, the X-E1 exudes a class and quality that can be seen from each of its components. The top and front covers are made from die-cast magnesium for a rigid, yet delicate design. And at roughly the same size as the FUJIFILM X100, the X-E1 is refreshingly compact and lightweight.
Quick response times
The X-E1 achieves extra quick response times comparable with those of DSLR cameras, ensuring you never miss a shot.
X-E1 - Additional features
Full HD Movies with cinema-like image quality
Shoot Full HD movies (1920 x 1080) at 24fps, the same frame rate used for cinema films. In addition to using Monochrome or other Film Simulation modes to enhance your artistic expression, you can take full advantage of the combination of X-E1's large sensor and bright XF lenses to capture movies with a large and beautiful defocused “bokeh” background. Connect stereo microphones (commercially sold) to the microphone connector to record audio with enhanced clarity and presence.
6fps High Speed Continuous Shooting
Shoot up to 6 frames per second with high-speed continuous shooting. Capture a series of exposures of moving subjects and other challenging photographic scenes and later select the best shot.
Just sweep the camera across the scene, and the X-E1 captures multiple images and seamlessly stitches them together to form a single panoramic photo. Even when enlarged to an A3-size print, there is virtually no loss of resolution. Holding the camera horizontally or vertically, Motion Panorama lets you shoot the scene with an “M” or “L” angle of view.
Q (Quick Menu) Button
Skip directly to frequently used shooting menus by pressing the Q (Quick Menu) button. ISO sensitivity setting, White Balance, Film Simulation and other frequently used shooting settings are displayed in a list. Just use the 4-way controller to select the item, and the command dial to change settings, for speedy operation while shooting.
In-camera RAW Converter
The built-in RAW data converter lets you view results in the field without first transferring the data to a PC. This easy-to-use feature not only takes into account exposure compensation, white balance and other in-camera image quality settings, but also lets you apply Film Simulation modes in the converter mode.
ISO100-25600 Sensitivity Setting Range
Expand the normal sensitivity range from ISO200-6400 to ISO100, 12800 or even ISO25600. In dynamic lighting conditions, you can now set a sensitivity ceiling within the range of ISO400-6400 and keep the camera on ISO Auto.

About Me Photo Enthusiast
Comments about Fuji X-E1 Silver Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:
The box is quite stylish so let's hope the contents are the same. Yes it is a quality piece of kit and mine includes a 35mm lens. There was enough charge in the battery to start shooting without delay. It was a grim day outside and so my first test shots were just of everyday objects around the house. Having been used to the excellent X10 I was familiar with the general layout. One thing missing, or at least I haven't found it yet, is the face detection mode, of which I very fond. The dials on the lens and camera allows you to easily switch from auto to aperture or shutter priority. The camera feels good in the hand and despite my prejudice I found the electronic viewfinder worked well, at least you don't see the lens hood as you do with most rangefinder cameras. I tried various ISO settings and was very impressed with the lack of noise in the 6400 shots. The image quality is superb an the jpegs are quite usable though I'll continue to follow my normal work pattern, jpegs in black and white for viewing and raw for my workflow. I've no idea yet how many shots the battery will give but hopefully the charge will last longer than the X10's and require fewer spares. All in all the controls are well set out and not easily moved, which happens with the X10's dial. So how will pan out as a workhorse for a street photographer? Well after doing a bit of quick framing and shooting around the house in various lighting situation I have to say I don't think it will do at all. I can see me missing quite a few shots because of the very sluggish focusing. I'll have to hold fire with a true assessment of the focusing until I can get out and about but, to be honest, I'm not at all impressed…………….
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
