The Giottos MH1312 652 Series II Ball Head is designed for fast and easy positioning of the camera. Series II ball heads differ from Series I heads as they include an extra feature which gives you additional control over your camera’s movement. Movement through all 3 axes is controlled from just the one locking lever, with an additional control for adjusting friction. With friction applied to the ball you have far greater control over the speed with which the ball will move and ultimately you can achieve more precise positioning. The Giottos MH1312 652 Series II ball head incorporates a quick release plate system with a maximum load capacity of 6kg. Series II ball heads also feature an additional pan lock control, an extra large weight saving hollowed ball to ensure stability whilst retaining impressive maximum weight capabilities. Designed to fit all Giottos tripod legs (the 1312 has a larger base area than its predecessor the 1302) and comes complete with a 5 year warranty.

Excellent ball head
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Comments about Giottos MH1312-652 Series II Ball Head:
If you are looking for a good, standard ball head for your tripod, you can do a lot worse than buying this one.I needed a relatively light weight, stable head to take travelling with me to use for close up photography for my work (museum archive research), and general holiday shots. This Giottos head did not let me down. It is durable enough to withstand a lot of abuse, and withstood months of heavy use and constant adjustment without any loss of accuracy and 'tightness'.Using a ball head may never 'feel' as precise as using one with arms. Yet, for me, the advantages gained in terms of weight and portability far outweighed any cons.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I'm no expert and more a hobbyist photographer, however I have found the Giottos MH1312 a real joy to use. I really don't know how I've coped without it for so long. The head is well constructed and engineered with intuitive control knobs. I have mounted the head on a set of Giottos MT8223-50 legs, with no problems. The MH1312 holds my Canon 600D with a Canon EF 70-300 lens without any creep and is ideal for my astrophotography and long exposures. I really have nothing negative to say about the MH1312.
Really love this head. Easy to use, lightweight, smooth. What more can I say
A really good buy!

First Ball Head for my Giotto tripod
from East Anglia
Pro: The friction control is a great feature when using different weighted camera body / lens combinatons.Locks firmly and smoothlyCon. If mounting the camera the correct way on the head to use the spirit levels, the width of the top of the tripod stops the head from assuming portrait position when angeled upwards. So have to adjust a tripod leg to compensate

Giottos MH1312-652 Series II Ball Head
After looking a various ballheads for my carbon tripod legs I settled on this one, and I'm very glad I did. Easy use through the tension knob makes it a joy to use and is more that man enough for a gripped 1000D with a 70-200mm lens attached. The movements are smooth and the ballhead locks tight positively. All in all a great ballhead to start off with and highly recommeded.
Comes well packaged, supplied in a soft bag for storage and allen key for adjustments. This feels solid and well constructed with easy to use controls, and also comes with a quick release plate. I use it with my Giottos MTL9351B tripod and it is a perfect match. I use it for macro and landscape photography mostly.
So far so good

This feels like a five star product but as I have not yet used it in the field it gets four. I bought it mainly for travel and it is light enough to suit this purpose. The controls are very smooth and make it easy to manoeuvre the head to the required position. I personally find the spirit levels a bit small and hard to see but the camera has a built in one so that's not a problem. The quick release plate is easy to remove and replace and feels solid and stable enough on the head. I have the Canon 7D and with my EF 70-300mm lens it still feels solid and balanced but this was with a lens tripod mount. The only small downside so far is there is a slight wobble vertically when the panning control is loosened and so there is a slight sag after you compose a shot, I'm sure with practice you can get used to this and allow for it as it is only a slight movement.Hopefully it will be as good when used on a proper shoot as it feels just trying it out with different equipment...
