Before I committed myself to buying this tripod I contacted Giottos for advice and sent a list of my equipment and needs. I was sent a list of options and decided to opt for this tripod.
It does the same as my other tripod BUT better.
Its lighter, smaller and more user friendly, but when extended its just wright for me hight wise as i'm 6'-3'' tall.
The centre column is great for low down shots and if you need to get down further the centre column comes out and a stubby piece can be inserted (supplied).

This tripod is rock steady in all positions. It took about an hour to get use to it but, after that,it became very easy to adjust and use.

Having struggled with tripods and attachments that were meant to be able to cope with the weight of my camera and lens I was pleased to go up a grade to 8kg and avoid the floating lens moving out of shot on its own!

An excellent piece of kit, very solid in use. As a landscape photographer I needed something solid enough to stand up to gales, yet light enough that it wasn't difficult to carry.

This fits the bill perfectly.

As a tripod they don't come much better than this. The tripod is stable and at the same time compact and lightweight. The adjustable centre column is very clever but there can be some vibration on it which needs allowing for, i.e. give it time to settle

It really is very well made and looks the part extends to a good height very stable plus has a hook to hang rucksack etc

I bought this specifically for a photo workshop weekend in Germany (with Chris Weston much recommended). I'd only used a tripod for home studio macro work, as most of the time I use a CF monopod. So this was my first real use of tripod outdoors. I was very impressed with the stability for my camera and lens combo of over 7Kg. Carrying it around was easy. Leg extending was smooth easy. (BTW why doesn't someone produce a tripod that extends all 3 legs at once to the same length ?)

Having had a couple of cheap tripods in the past I decided it was time to get a better quality item but I wanted it to be light and compact as well as strong.
I spent some time looking at the available market and particularly examining build quality.
As a former engineer I appreciate good engineering design and this tripod ticks all the boxes. It is lightweight, compact and carries the weight of my Nikon 300S and 70-300mm lens extremely well. I also like the way in which the mounting plate has some lateral adjustment before locking which can help in fine focussing when using for macro, although this is not the intended use.

Finally it is offered at a very competitive pricepoint when compared to its' rivals.

Being a keen mountaineer and traveller, two major issues are size and weight. This said I always take my 50D+telephone lenses with me. However, tripods I have previously used have been large, bulky and heavey, which is ideal for stability (not for carrying).

This tripod provides the ideal balance for weight and pack/collapsed size. Without comprimising the overall range it is able to work over. I did have my doubts the carbon fibre option would be too light but to date I have been (happily) proved wrong.
