This levelling base replaces the flat base that comes with Gitzo tripods and is adjusted by turning the small lower column and moving the camera to level.I have used this for over two years now and find it really useful, you can put the tripod down on uneven ground and have your setup level within a very short time.

I use this with a Canon 1D3 + 500 on a Wimberley head but feel that the base plate could be a bit thicker so have added a large steel washer between the levelling base and the Wimberley, making it a bit more stable. The other improvement I would like to see is the adjusting column; it goes from tight to very slack with just a slight turn. A bit more control would be beneficial.
