The Kirk L-Bracket for the Canon EOS 5D MK II digital SLR is a custom-made one-piece aluminium L-Bracket for the Canon 5D MKII. When attached it allows full access to all the switches, including full use of the remote control, and battery drawers and allows quick changes from horizontal to vertical composition and vice-versa without having to adjust your tripod and/or tripod head. The Kirk L-Bracket also helps to protect the camera body and keeps the weight of the lens and body over the tripod's centre of gravity. The L-Bracket from Kirk attaches directly to Kirk Ball Heads and other 'Arca-Type' heads. More
Kirk's tripod heads require a compatible quick release plate to be attached to the camera equipment. Kirk offer a range of dedicated camera plates, lens plates, lens collars and L-brackets. To find out which plate you need please click on one of the following links:

Easy change from portrait to landscape

Comments about Kirk BL-5DII L-Bracket for Canon EOS 5D MkII:
Buy it, fit it to your Canon 5D MkII camera and leave it on. As long as you buy a quick release plate for it, changing from portrait to landscape is very easy for lenses that do not have collars. Make sure that your tripod can easily use the quick release plate required. If you have more than 1 camera this can only be used for the 5DMk 11. I use it for photography with my tilt and shift lens where I need to change from portrait to landscape format quickly and for panoramas where I stitch 3 photos together in post production. Saves a huge amount of time

This plate is great bolts on rock solid to my 5d ii . I do a lot of long exposures so remote cable is a must for me. The canon rs-80n3 cable fits perfectly. In the photo the rubber seals are out at diagonals through the frame but I haven't tried squeezing them through as it looks a bit tight. There is plenty of room just to move them to one side within the space. A tad pricey but I guess you get what you pay for. As usual great service from wex
this is a godsend, rather than faffing about trying to adjust landscape to portrait and back, just slide out and turn !

Great bit of kit but be aware...
About Me Professional
The width of the Kirk L Bracket is different to the Arca Swiss camera plates. You therefore need to adjust the width of the Arca Head each time you switch from the Kirk L to a Arca base plate. I need to use a Arca Swiss plate on the 70-200 tripod collar and you lose a bit of finger skin on each adjustment and run the risk of the springs and washers flying out if you loosen the Arca Head width too much...
Best bracket I've used
By The Nibster
This is such a great piece of kit, in fact, it hasn't come off my camera since I put it on. It fits very securely to both the camera and tripod head. I use it in conjunction with the excellent Gitzo Carbon Traveler tripod. I've modified the set up, including removing the central column for increased stability. I use a Gitzo ball head, with the Gitzo Arca Swiss QR plate. The result is a very small, yet incredibly strong set up. With the 5D Mk II attached to this set up with the Kirk Bracket, I have made exposures of several hours, with no shake in the picture. That's with a reasonably heavy lens (Canon 24-70mm f/2.8).It works fantastically well with both horizontal and vertical positions. This is due to the large contact area the bracket has with both the camera and the tripod head. This bracket is a must have for any serious landscape photographer, in my opinion. It's certainly not coming off my camera in a hurry!Note, I have also used the Kirk bracket for the 5D Mk II with battery grip. This too is a great product, but it is no where near as secure as this one. There is significant 'play' between the body of the the camera, the grip, and the bracket. Unless you can't live without the vertical shutter release, I'd strongly suggest this model of bracket, over the version designed to accommodate the battery grip also.

I've bought these before, for different camera bodies, and they are really useful.Having read one of the other reviews, I tested mine with a spirit level and it is completely horizontally correct.[...]
Out of true
By Tony Hubcaps
On the surface a reasonably well made item but be careful - like other Kirk products (in my experience) the bracket is not manufactured to be 'true', so that the camera ends up being held at a small but clear angle to the horizontal. Obviously, this is a disaster for precise panoramic work (since no compensation is possible). I also have several Kirk clamps and they all exhibit similar problems. I've felt it necessary to replace everything with better quality from other manufacturers.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Brilliant accessory .
I have worked for over 25 years professionally as a photographer for magazines and advertising agencies.I use the Kirk L brackets on my Hasselblad & 2 Canons with my Gitzo Carbon Fibre Tripod. The balance is perfect for moving the cameras from landscape to portrait format. Combined with secure and and fast mounting of my various cameras to the tripod, I find the Kirk L bracket indispensable.
