The Kirk BL-D800 L-Bracket for Nikon D800, D800E and D810 is a custom-made one-piece aluminium L-Bracket. When attached it allows full access to all the switches and battery drawers and allows quick changes from horizontal to vertical composition and vice-versa without having to adjust your tripod and/or tripod head. The Kirk L-Bracket also helps to protect the camera body and keeps the weight of the lens and body over the tripod's centre of gravity. The L-Bracket from Kirk attaches directly to Kirk Ball Heads and other 'Arca-Type' heads. More

About Me Professional
Comments about Kirk BL-D800 L-Bracket for Nikon D800 D800E and D810:
Non of my camera bodies would ever be without an L-Bracket of one sort or another. I usually buy RRS L-Brackets, but when I got my D810 I was short on time and couldn't wait for RRS to ship from US So, I opted for the Kirk plate.Well, they are just as good as they can get; and I put my gear through some really tough terrain ... from UK climate all the way to 55C in the desert of Arabia. These are solid and work as the tin states.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Good product, not cheap but great fit

About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Had intended to buy the RRS version but it is hard to find in the UK and the Kirk version fits any Arca Swiss type head perfectly, can't really think that the RRS could be any better really.Using the L plate totally transforms the handling of the camera in terms of switching quickly from landscape to portrait format and keeping the camera absolutely level. If you are serious about your photography this is one of these items that you didn't think or know much about before but which you will enjoy using, gives you more time to concentrate on the important stuff like taking the photographs!
L bracket review
By laurie the curmudgeon
Surprisingly light light yet strong
Must have accessory
from Tamworth, Staffordshire
Specially designed l-bracket eliminates any movement of the quick release plate.Must be used with "Arca" style quick release system. Allows rotation of camera from landscape to portrait without the need to recompose image. Great piece of kit. Have recommended to at least four friends for their cameras.
Essential for studio work
Allows transition from portrait to landscape quickly with a very secure Arca type mount. I have all my tripods/gimbal and shoulder strap fitted with Kirk/Arca clamps and can just move the camera from one to the other. On a tripod or studio camera stand, you can then switch from vertical to horizontal format in seconds. Expensive but well made and worth it for the security and speed of use. No more screwing and unscrewing the camera to move it or change orientation, just a quick unclamp and re-clamp. Much better.
Buy the right bracket for your Camera
Supports the camera well when being used for portrait pictures and sits rock steady on the tripod
Does what it says on the box
Does what it says and worth the price
Very fast to use and absolutely solid
About Me Semi-pro Photographer
I use this bracket with an Arca-Swiss C1 cube head complete with rapid locking bracket. I have several other Kirk brackets and various other branded camera plates. The http://www.wexphotographic.com/buy-giottos-sliding-quick-release-adapter-plate-arca-swiss-compatible-/p1031416 has a different foot profile. I mention this as in my experience the Giotto plate is a perfect match for the Arca plate, whereas the Kirk is different. The Giotto plate slides into the base but the Kirk needs to be dropped in from above. This is a major failing as there is an increased chance that your camera could fall at that moment. Also the Giotto uses a screw that can be adjusted by hand the Kirk uses an Allen key, for a plate that needs to be slid this is not ideal. That aside the plate is solid and a perfect fit on the D800 with no disernable weakness when the camera is vertical.
Ideal product for tripod users.
Although rather an expensive item the Kirk brackets are essential to those photographers that use a tripod and need rapid set up instant change from portrait to landscape format. Always well made and engineered I recommend them.
