Comments about Lastolite Ezybox Hotshoe Plate (with standard hotshoe mount):
Good build quality and a big improvment over the original. The cold shoe also a big improvment with much better adjustability.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I've been using the 60 / 54cm EzyBox Hotshoe since it was released and was never a fan of the original metallic mounting plate that came with it.Owing to the original plate becoming worn and unstable, I ordered this one as a replacement. First impressions are that, despite being far lighter and made of plastic, it seems to be a superior design.First off: the attachment rim won't rotate with the softbox in place AND also clamps into position quite easily. I had a significant amount of play with the original.Secondly, the slot for mounting the strobe is a vast improvement over the simple metal cold shoe of the first version - plus it also has space to mount a PocketWizard or other shoe-mount triggering system in tandem.Lastly, I think the plastic construction is a definite improvement. The edges on my original metal 'speedring' had become worn to the point of becoming quite sharp and I'd nearly sliced my fingers on more than one occasion... I doubt I'll have the same worries with this version.
an improved design

I've been using the Lastolite Ezytbox for ages. The connection plate always felt like a bit of a weak point in the design. I was concerned that the switch from metal to plastic would be a bad thing but I've been pleasantly surprised. Lighter, doesn't scratch other kit and reasonably strong (haven't bust it yet). The redesigned connection shoe allows me to use my new pocket wizard TT5, although you have to turn the flash head 90˚ to point it into the Ezybox, which feels odd but works perfectly. If you've got an Ezybox with the metal hotshoe bracket and you've invested in the new TT5 then this is essential. Even if you haven't it's still worth it as it's a big improvement on the old model.

Having recently purchased the Ezybox Hotshoe 76x76, I was pleasantly surprised to see this rather robust lightweight plastic version of the hotshoe plate. For those of you with earlier models, you will know that the metal version excels at scratching other pieces of kit if it accidentally comes into contact with it. Additionally, for those of you that use Ezybox Hotshoe soft boxes and intend investing in the new Pocket Wizard Flex TT5 wireless transceivers, you will find that the older version of the plate does not have enough room to accommodate the Flex TT5 on the mount, therefore an upgrade to this latest version will be necessary.
