The Lastolite HiLite backgrounds range allows the photographer to undertake 'High Key' photography on location and in restrictive spaces. The white background itself can be rear-lighted so there is no longer a need to use a background light behind the subject and because the background is illuminated, the subject can stand right in front of it without casting a shadow. The HiLite backgrounds also work as a large rear softbox, illuminating the subject, meaning you can use just one other flash head to light the subject from the front. The Lastolite HiLite background is collapsible so can be easily stored and transported. This larger 6' x 7' version is ideal for full length portraits and small group shots. Please note that the train is sold separately.
4 Nov 2010 - Since its introduction some years ago, the Lastolite HiLite background has been increasingly popular with portrait photographers. Sadly, I still get a lot of correspondence about the HiLite background from photographers who struggle to achieve the look that they expected. That’s why I’m putting pen to paper, not in the form of a review as such, but just to reassure you that using the HiLite need not be a struggle. How to get the most out of your HiLite...

Comments about Lastolite HiLite Background 6x7 ft:
So if you were like me and finding out if the lastolite is worth the money, the short answer is yes. Click add to basket and get it now!I bought the 6x7 after many hours of contemplation purely as it can be lit with one light, the 8x7 was a little too big for myself plus it ideally needs 2 lights to get the most from it,this was just adding additional equipment to shoots which I didn't really want. That said, I will be getting the 8x7 for the studio at some point. Going back to the 6x7 its ideal for taking to events and customer homes and the fact it's up and running in minutes is an absolute must. On another note, nearly every customer has mentioned how professional everything looks when it's up, giving a good impression is always key and lastolite have come up trumps with this product.I highly recommend the train to go along side with it, allowing amazing full length shots and perfect for photographing children and pets. I would say it's worth having a couple of lights either side of the train to fill out with light and make a seemless background. For setting up quickly, I will have a flash head lighting the box, a large softbox keylight and a smaller lightbox to highlight. For events, I will have the additional lights for the train and I can get the shot and printed quickly with no worries or messing around with each customer.Folding the backdrop is ridiculously easy, I find the pringle shape then corner to corner is best. After a few goes you will get it in no time. The 6x7 folds into a neat circle and put straight in the very robust bag.If you want something that will transform your photography, make your life considerably easier and give consistent great shots from the camera, then I highly recommend the lastolite hilite. The quality of service and the great care in packing my items was second to none from wex photographic I shall be purchasing more gear in the future and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Semi-pro Photographer
This product is very easy to setup and works great
lastolite hilite background
The product is used in my home studio, great production.
casual and formal suited. compact and durable
useful for all of my portrait, modelling, family shoots etc. contemporary white background means timeless portraits easily adjusted with use of professional software. only thing i would say is that the handles are on the wrong side of the carry case in my eyes. strain on zip will eventually take its toll. other than this the clean colour, pop up and durability really will make this a worth while investment for my business.
Great for high key, easy set-up and dismantling
By Ex Cathedra Photography
Easy, quick, high key set up.Easier to put up and take down than I expected, although the spacer bars look like they might be fragile. Folded easily, which I wasn't expecting! In use, you can use single light with care - use a reflector and aim slightly towards back. Easier with two lights of course. You need subject standing a bit away - 2m worked for me - to avoid losing contrast from spill light.

Great addition to equipment.

This product is great to take to peoples homes and still produce studio results.I began making money on my first outing. Set up is very easy and once you have found the best settings for you and your camera you cant go wrong.I watched clip after clip trying to work out best settings but to be honest i suggest you forget all that and best way is trial and error practicing. Putting it away can be a challenge as you tube will demonstrate but it really is a knack and generaly it goes back in the bag first time.
Its bulkier than you realise...

About Me Photo Enthusiast
Getting this product right requires a good working knowledge of off camera flash; no trouble for professionals, but not so easy for newbies. I am still working on the best lighting solution for using this product in the field: one flash gun in the side of the product will not be good enough. So, that means two flash guns in the product.. and then a way of lighting the dreaded join between Hi Lite and vinyl train, if you want full length shots, and don't want to alter the image in Lightroom or Photoshop. Good for single, perhaps twin headshots; full length groups of three or four much more tricky. Am advised that two Elinchrom Quadra Ranger lights would be satisfactory, but reckon that won't sort out the train. Still, it can be carried, is portable, and although it is tricky to fold the Hi Lite up after use, the paper alternative and support seems worse!
lastolite hilight with train
from March, cambs
With the addition of a bowens flash this produces some wonderful hi key images.
Just the job
Bought to achieve clean white backgrounds for people and pet portraits. I use with one Bowens 400 in the hilite and one Bowens 400 in front (brolly). Pretty easy to get the right balance for head shots and three - quarters (about 1 stop more in the background). Not so easy to get clean white between hilite and floor (even with the vinyl train) and I have used a speedlite to add light in this area. This is a bit tricky to get right and it's probably quicker to clean up in post processing. Still working on the finer points but no complaints with the hilite - it does exactly what it's supposed to do. Definitely saves a lot of space (and uses less strobes) compared to a paper roll set up which I don't have the space for. Great service and quick delivery from WEX - got the vinyl train free on special offer, so very pleased!

Purchased this to film presenter-to-camera sequences for infovideos. Works really well. Takes up far less space than having a separate background than needs lighting too.
