About Joe McNally

Joe McNally is an internationally acclaimed photographer whose career has spanned 30 years and included assignments in over 50 countries. I was one of the first to get my hands on this product direct from Lastolite around April 2011. I chose it as I wanted something portable, fast and easy to hold (for my assistant). Instead of going for the standard Easybox Hotshoe I decided to give this one a go, I though the white interior would give a little something different perhaps(?).

The light given is soft and well controlled, nice and warm (great for bridal portraiture). The unit is set up in literally seconds and is light weight and durable. This means that you can find a location set-up, shoot and pack up in no time at all.

My only gripe is that my one came in a triangular shaped larger bag instead of the usual small round blue bag that the Easybox Hotshoe normally come in, this may not seem like a big deal but it means that you can not fit this unit in your camera bag and does somewhat spoil the appeal of the product a little.

Note: I am unsure whether this was due to it being an early example of the unit or is this the normal bag?!!

That said, this Softbox can be set up in seconds and you can be shooting in minuets. This is a HUGE advantage for wedding shooters. I like to work quickly and on the fly. I would say for studio togs and if time is not an issue I would recommend a larger version or, my personal favourite, the 90cm Hotrod Octa Softbox from Lastolite.
