With the Composer, Lensbaby introduces a completely new lens, based on a ball and socket configuration that delivers smooth selective focus photography with unparalleled ease. The new Composer retains its position after being bent and is easy to use even with one hand. Photographers no longer have to squeeze the lens to focus, but can simply tilt the lens to a desired angle and then focus with a traditional barrel focusing ring. The Composer stays in the desired bent position without requiring a locking mechanism and features the new Lensbaby Optic Swap System.
The Composer features a unique manual focus design which requires more rotation to move the optic as you approach infinity. This makes it easier to focus on objects at intermediate and distant depths than regular manual focus lenses. More
Automatic light metering is possible by shooting in aperture priority mode for almost all Nikon digital and film SLR camera bodies except certain bodies including the D40, D50, D60, D70, D70S, D80, D90, D100, Kodak 14N and ProN, & Fuji S1, S2, and S3.
The Composer is a breeze to use. Simply bend the lens to move the Sweet Spot and focus with the Composer's unique barrel focus mechanism, which automatically dampens the focus action as you approach infinity.
The Composer stays in its bent position without needing to be locked. If you want to ensure the Composer will not move during an extended shooting session, you can lock the lens's position by rotating the locking ring. This locking feature makes the Composer the ideal Lensbaby lens for studio photography or for any situation where you want longer or repeated exposures.

Comments about Lensbaby Composer - Nikon:
Ive had a tough time rating this lens. I wanted to give everything a 5 star rating but i had a re-think and have been as honest as possible. This lens is one of those things ive wanted for a long long time but wasn't too sure about how good it would be and no one else seems to have one... but i took the plunge when ordering a load of other equipment.I have been playing with it for the last 4 hours since it got delivered and its absolutely brilliant!I read the instructions when i got it out (amazingly) and it explained how to use it very simply and i got straight to work. Its very easy to use once you remember the fact you have to do everything manually (hence 4 stars).Build quality, i gave this a 4 because the thing as a whole is good and sturdy and im impressed the mount is made from mental! The only thing that marked it down was the feel of the focus ring, just feels a little cheap.4 Stars for Sharpness, but only because im used to expensive Nikon lenses so can see the difference. For the money this is spot on quality. And Autofocus. With my camera there was none, you do it all manually. I put 4 stars because i put my Nikon into manual mode and just got on with it, but it might be a different story for other makes and models. But the focus ring is more than adequate.Overall im really chuffed. It comes with an array of aperture rings too, but stick with the one which is already in the lens while you get used to it.It also came with a soft pouch to keep it in when not in use.Very very happy, i hope more and more people buy these! Brings some fun back to photography!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great bit of kit
from Rayleigh, Essex
I have wanted one of these for ages but was put off by the earlier versions. This is the third incarnation). I think its a bit expensive but what price creativity?I used this on my two Nikons, a D90 and a D3. There is a difference. With the D90 I get no control over the metering and have to guess exposure. Not too bad if you have a good undertanding of photography but for first timers a bit of a no-no. However, on the D3, the lens metrs with the camera making exposure esay. The lens firs snuggly in the Nikon lens mount and you have a variety of apperture rings to use. You just ust the included tool to release the aperature ring in the lensbaby and drop another in. Sounds easy but can be a bit fiddily. The lensbaby comes with a f4 aperture ring already installed so thats what I use in most instances. The lensbaby is so easy to use, but there is no autofocus. You can bend the lens and then when you focus on the sweetspot depending on the agnle of the lens all other parts of the image are out of focus. Wish I could upload an image here to show you but I don't think you can. (If anyone knows how drop me a comments please)The lensbay is plastic but appears to be sturdy enough for its purpise. Its light and comes with its own little carrying bag. Good news too you can get accessories for close up an a variaty of shaped aperture rings. Costs a bit more but you can have even more fun with this little gem.

Does what is says is should

-ve:Has its limitations. The Camera metering did not work with this lens on my D2X but was fine on the D700.Changing the aperture is a bit fiddly and they are sure to get lost in the gadget bag just when you need them+veThe ability to throw stuff way out of focus at the time of shooting is what makes this 'baby' a permanent resident of my gadget bag from now on. Sure beats trying to do it in the 'darkroom'
