Bought to replace the supplied Canon leather hood cover on a 500mm F4 L IS lens. Fits perfectly, easy to remove or put back on and does the job it was bought for.

I bought this to replace the heavy, and difficult to fit, Canon hood on my Canon EF 500 f/4L IS.

1) I think it is poorly made. Instead of the edge being cut straight it weaves around in an uneven line.

2) I don't think it is fit for purpose. It only fits snugly on the front of the hood. The rigid plastic does not fit into the Hood properly when the hood is reversed nor does if fit over the end of the lens. Most backpacks only allow carrying a EF 500 if the hood is reversed, which is when you need a lens cap to fit a reversed hood. The website claims it fits "easily and snugly around your lens hood or shade in both the shooting position or reversed".

3) The rigid plastic protector is not rigid at all and is easily bendable. It does not fit the reverse of the hood or the front of the lens. It only snugly fits around the front of the lens hood.

4) The length of the hoodie is only about 3 inches. It is not enough. It slips off the far lens too easily. It is even worse on the rear of the hood because the "rigid plastic" does not fit properly and the hoodie can not be pulled back far enough for you to feel it is secure. There is no securing mechanism/ elastic/tie to keep it in place.

5) It is difficult to put the hoodie on the Lens Hood and you need 2 hands.

I am very disappointed with this product and I don't think it is suitable for an EF 500.

The Canon lens cover that comes with their big telephoto's is not that practical when out and about using the lens. The LensCoat Hoodie makes for a neat alternative and you can get one to match your LensCoat. Fairly easy to put on and protects the front element of your big lens.
