Very pleased with this purchase - this is a great bag. It is very comfortable to wear and the straps are adjustable to get a good fit. I liked the concept of the back opening. There is plenty of room for a camera and several lenses plus other equipment. Like others I have found the full bag to be heavy when carried, but once it is on my back it is fine. Highly recommend.

This is a great bag, I upgraded from the flipside 300 which was a good bag but I needed the extra room.

With this bag I can fit my
        - 5D with grip + 24-70
        - 50D body
        - 70-200 2.8 IS
        - Speedlite 580
        - Speedlite 430
        - 5 spare batteries
        - flash diffusers
        - 3 remote triggers
        - 2 camera straps
        - spare batteries
        - cleaning accessories

Another great thing about this bag is the ability to add the slip lock attachments.
The main reason I stuck with the Flipside was the safety. I like how the main compartment is opened from the inside.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I use this bag for all my photography, from weddings to landscape. I recently took it to Spain as hand luggage. I packed:

            1 x 1ds mk 2
            1 x 1d mk3
            70-200 IS 2.8
            24-70 2.8
            2 x 530ex flashes
            Spare rechargable batteries + charger
            Camera chargers + spare batteries
            5 in 1 reflector
Manfrotto tripod and 3 tilt head.
Cards and filters + passports and other bits and bobs.
Heavy when hand carried but no suprise there but on your back, it's a breeze.
I can't rate this highly enough. I wanted something at a reasonable price to carry all of the above but not too bulky. This fits the bill. The rear access is a great idea and it's easy to access in a rush. Weather proof as is ( within reason ) as yet, not needed the rain cover.

                • Trekking

Great travel companion, tough enough to protect your gear and good looking. Ideal for travelling light or not attracting attention to your gear.

Also the only bag smaller than a full Pro rucksack that will take a D3 with lens attached.

Handy front pocket has room for bits and bobs, books and passport.

2 small issues, the security is great, but its awkward and slow to get things out in a hurry, but most rucksacks are, and the memory card pockets are only for SD - why when DSLRs take CF?

                Best Uses

This bag is good, it's feel lights when you have it on your back and the camera compartment's opening is facing your back so it makes it hard for people to take things but to get it to you will have to take the bag off.

                  It can't hold a laptop.

Good bag but with possible flaw

                  By jamesdorset

                  from Undisclosed

                  Pros

                  • comfortable and secure on back (without tripod)
                  • good secure camera padding

                  Cons

                  • badly positioned tripod fixing

                  Best Uses

I have been looking for a camera bag that opens from the back so when out and about in muddy locations the straps and back stay clean when put back on.
This it does or will do the job excellently. However, for me there is a major flaw, the tripod holder. My old bag is a Lowenpro Mini Trekker and has served me well in all conditions including the carrying of my tripod (a Slik88 with a slik AF2100 pistol friction head). On the Trekker it fitted perfectly with the head just above shoulder height.
However on the Flipside 400, the tripod holder is shorter and also attached 2 inches higher up the bag. This means that the tripod head is now about 6 inches higher up and at head height, coupled with this, the attaching strap is too low so the tripod is not secure.
If the holder was longer by 7 inches (to make same length as Trekker and compensate for the raised fixing to bag) this would be my perfect bag for walks.
If this one thing was corrected would be 5 stars all the way.

Bag was such a good price may keep it even with the flaw , will have to think of some way to fix tripod without it bashing my head if I do.

                    A good product

                    See all my reviews

I wanted a bag with enough depth to put one / two EOS1DS with moderate zooms in the bag ready to go with hoods in place and with room for a flash as well. The motor drive adds enough depth to the camera to eleminate many bags.

Most bags show cameras of this sort facing down and often with the hoods reversed. This bag allows both cameras plus the flashgun to be stored ready for use providing you re-arrange the compartments so that the cameras lie horizontally rather than the more usual vertical direction. The flashgun can also be placed horizintally between the two cameras.

It all works and is both comfortable and secure.

                    Very happy!
