Comments about Lowepro Vertex 300 AW Backpack:
I used this backpack on a recent trip to South Africa. It held all the kit I needed and was used on various planes with different restrictions. I carried it on an internal flight between Joburgh and Cape Town, where restrictions were in place. I was concerned that it would not fit into the overhead but it did like a dream and also stopped people cramming in there stuff and squashing the bag due to its strong construction. It can be used as a backpack but also a carry bag. The only downside being that it does not have a side handle which due to its size would make it easier carrying it through departures. This would be the only reason I have not given this bag a five star rating. Otherwise it does what it says on the box.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Brilliant Portable Home Storage Solution
I bought this to store my ever expanding kit safely in one place at home or when transporting it in the car - without spending the earth! It is very robustly made with strong zips and made from the highest quality materials - as you would expect from LowePro.It swallows up my EOS 7D, Canon 400mm f5.6L, 100mm Macro IS f4L, 24mm-105mm f4L, 17mm-40mm f4L, 70mm-200mm f4L, 50mm and Tamron 70mm-300mm VC, Canon Speedlite, Camera charger, Macbook Pro, Batteries, Back up drive, Charger & Filters!!Although it is very well padded and comfortable it is pretty big and very heavy when fully loaded - not a problem for what I need it for but I would not recommend for long hikes when fully loaded, take a smaller bag for that.Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and the great advice I got from the Wex team on the phone who picked this out as the perfect solution to meet my needs.
About Me Semi-pro Photographer
A great bag. Have got through several over the years and always replace with the same one.
This is a great bag, it fits all my photography equipment in, be warned this is a big bag. But it also fit everything you will ever need into it, so I would highly recommend
Great bag but expensive

Used for storing and carrying two DX bodies, one prime, one medium zoom, two smaller zooms as well as flash, filters, batteries and a few more bits. Heavy to lift with all the gear but very comfortable once in place and use it to carry 75% of the kit up mountains, not high ones.

A very solid large bag
from West Yorkshire
We bought this to take our camera kit on holiday. The specification is 1cm larger than the maximum depth allowed by Easyjet for hand luggage. However - if you take any laptop out and fold the straps it will 'compress' to 25cm (the Easyjet maximum width). We haven't tried it at the airport yet but having tested at home are confident it will be ok.You should also note that the bag is not light when empty. We are packing into it a Canon 7D, four good sized canon lenses, laptop power supply, speedlite, teleconverter, WD MY Passport, and other items plus a laptop (and we could have put more in and probably will). Once fully loaded it is heavy - but a safe way to take the kit on holiday and not have to use the suitcases for heavy equipment (other than the tripod); filters and lens hoods go in the suitcase.
Backpack for LF photography
I needed a backpack that would allow me to carry around my large format photography kit. It had to be strong, durable and yet comfortable. I knew that it was going to be rather bulky, but at the same time I needed something that could be brought on airplanes as hand luggage. After extensive research, the only backpack that would fit all of my needs was the LowePro Vertex 300 AW.The backpack has plenty of room for my 4x5" view camera, two lenses, filters, film holders, spot meter, dark cloth and assorted gizmos. The tripod attachement is spot on and well designed. When fully loaded the backpack is rather heavy and bulky, but after you adjust the straps and use all buckles, it is surprisingly comfortable. I carried it on my shoulders for many hours, for two days in a row, even going up steep paths and I never found it too heavy or uncomfortable. The only thing to bear in mind is the bulk of it, as you may end up hitting things without noticing. All in all, the Vertex 300 is a backpack I would recommend to every large format photographer (even [@] uses it!).
from South West
This is a great bag if you regularly venture into the countryside and want to take a lot of gear with you. It is comfortable to carry, has good weather protection and plenty of padding for your gear. I can fit two camera bodies with telephotos on them plus 4 other lenses and a flash gun in the main compartment with no problem - there would be room for more if I packed carefully.Be warned though, when you load it up it is heavy!!This is not a bag to carry stuff around in every day unless you really need to always have your stuff with you and need something really comfortable - it is simply too large for average use. If, however, you want something for longer trips, or a bag to keep all your gear safely together when at home then this is a great choice.

For a Business Class Traveller
Should you be fortunate enough not to have to go steerage then this is the backpack for you. You do need to appear nonchalant at the check-in desk tho as you can cram mega Kilograms over the top into this that will even worry Upper-Types cabin crew
Big and can be heavy
