Save £10, RRP £69.95The Manfrotto 496RC2 Compact Ball head is strong enough to take DSLR cameras with medium lenses, and light medium format cameras. It has a single repositionable locking lever for 360° panoramic rotation and +/-90° tilt movements plus a friction control for safer and more precise movement. Camera to head attachment is via a Manfrotto 200PL-14 quick-release plate with a 1/4'' male thread and the head to tripod attachment is a 3/8'' female thread. The Manfrotto 496RC2 features an all aluminium construction with elliptic holes to reduce weight and a matt-black finish.

Bought this to use as an alternative to my 804RC2, and to use on a Gorillapod SLR-Zoom.I find the size and weight to be great- fits nicely onto the top of the Gorillapod and feels solid- much more so than the 804RC2. The quick-release catch is a lot slicker and clips into place without sticking, and can be undone one-handed.Operation is smooth with adjustable friction, and when locked is absolutely solid. Admittedly my set up isn't the heaviest in the world, but on top of my 055XProB I can't get it to budge a millimetre.Looses points purely for the lack of a seperate pan control, but I guess you could pay a little more for the 498RC2 if that is a must.

Good product but stiff to move
Used for multi adjustment on tripod, easy to set up but stiff in rotation.

I WOULD RECOMEND THIS PRODUCT
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
I bought mine so that I could use my tripod very close to the ground. So far it has supported my Canon EOS7 and standard lens very well. It is typically Manfrotto, very well made with a feel of good quality. I am looking forward to using it more in the future and to try it with longer lenses which I feel it should be able to handle.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Ecellent product at the price
from Cheltenham, Glos
I find it ideal for macro shots & for times when I need a stable platform for my Nikon d7100.
Great meduim sized head
A really good quality head.
Simple and Strong
By Dave A
Chose this Ball head for my Tripod as its a good size and a lot of my friends have already got them and rate them. It's a very strong Ball head that once locked is impossible to move so I would say will hold any Camera with any Lens no problem. Because the Ball Head is so simple it's makes it quick to use and lock ready for the next shot, I can even just use the friction adjustment for quicker composing of the camera without having to lock it. Only thing I would say about this Head is that it could of done with a Level.
Light and sturdy.
I use the product with a Joby Gorillapod and it is well suited for travel photography. It's light and sturdy and locks into place well. The only criticism I have, is that it may not be adjustible enough for all situations, but so far in taking landscape/cityscape photos, it has done exactly what I bought it for without complaint. A very good ball head. My camera is a Nikon D7000+batterygrip and 18-200vr lens attached. It holds this steady without any give. I would buy this item again and from Warehouse Express - top quality and great service.

The number one ball head
This is the ball head everyone should look at getting, perfect for almost all situations. The only problem I have is when I have my camera in portrait if I've got a reasonable sized lens (pretty much anything bigger than a fisheye) the head has trouble keeping the camera where I want it. The weight the camera and lens (even though it's far less than the maximum 6kg) seem to drag the ball head down slightly. However this is only in portait, most ball heads suffer from this though and to eliminate it completely you would probably need to spend 4 times the amount this one is priced at. It works excellently in any other position.
Easy to use tripod head
This is so much easier to use than my previous tripod head with levers. I can get to far more places and angles. It also takes up less space when being carried around.
Sturdy and easy to use and not too heavy.
