I still, now, would have preferred to have my much older, slower and bought secondhand original Nikkor.Optically, it is fine though comparisons with other lenses almost impossible as there's only two available and one simply doesn't buy a fisheye lens again. It's got excellent multicoating, essential for coping with a bright sun that's nearly always in the frame. Edges and corners are good and OK respectively. Colours and contrast are bright and punchy.I ticked the recyclable box as being a bad thing, not because I'm against the environment but its casing is plastic and feels, certainly next to traditional Nikon values like it won't even last that long. It is light, very compact and fast though. I dropped this lens onto a concrete floor which dented the shallow hood and fractured some of the plastic casing but it still works fine, so the basic workings are durable. A warning there, it is so small and light, it slips easily through cold fingers.I occasionally use it in band photography but often its urban landscapes that really can be transformed into a breathtaking and winning image. Environmental portraits showing the subject's surroundings more than them can be an inspired alternative. Use with care though, as close-up this lens can make enemies! AF is fine though I usually don't use it.I'm only recommending this lens if it's a Nikkor you're after. The Sigma otherwise, not on sharpness levels, but that the Sigma is more widely available secondhand, is critically admired and must be built at least to a similar standard. That's if the cheaper and newer DX versions are not an option.
