Still one of Nikons' best lenses

About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Comments about Nikon 17-55mm f2.8 G DX AF-S IF-ED Lens:
Bought this lens for my DX back up camera as I usually shoot FX. Now I turn to this lens for most of my work. Not the lightest of lenses but I get consistently clean results. The perfect quality lens for everyday use.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is a terrific lens, probably the best DX lens available and is a must for anyone serious about photography. You could safely walk around with just this lens on your camera for a week and not feel the need to use another lens. It produces crisp, sharp, beautiful images, it's wide enough and provides enough reach for many situations also. You really appreciate a fast f/2.8 lens like this on a DX camera also, terrific bokeh, is on my D7000 most of the time.

Many uses, a great lens.
I take my lens on boats and underwater: it is great for close action shots both above and below the surface, and resists the rigors of travel. AF with my D200 is no problem. I am waiting with bated breath to try it with a D300s in a new housing. It has been really good for shooting larger fish, divers, sharks and turtles.

Ultimate standard zoom for DX
This is the lens to have for Nikon DX-camera's.Solidly build, fast AF, good handling.Sharpness is good from f2.8, excellent from f4.Some Chromatic aberattion observed in rare cases.Distortion is observed at 17mm, but can be corrected in PS.It is expensive, but worth every penny.

I am a press photographer and have found that this is the only lens to use for the most of my work ... No more needs to be said.
A rock in your hand
from Paris, FR
This lens is superb: sharp, bright , solid and... very heavy. On a D300 + grip it weighs a tone.Very flexible to use for portrait, interior, architecture. The distortion is quite easy to correct. The focal ring is very close to the camera case, I have not yet the habit and I often grab the focus ring.It is my prefered lens for every days photography.

Tack Sharp and shows mega detail
from Rayleigh, Essex
I have had this lens for a few months and have used it for portraits, sports and architectural photography and I am blown away with how good this lens is. As my title says its tack sharp and shows up such detail. The lens seems a bit bulky but it feels great in the hand and on the camera. The range is superb for portrait work and at its widest its great for architectural work. The focus can be auto or manual and on my D2H and D2Xs focuses fast and accurately.[...]One disappointment is the lack of vibration reduction (VR) but being a short lens, as yet that has not been a major problem. If you take your photography seriously then this is the lens for you and it has now become my standard lens.
