This lens’s unique combination of an f/2 aperture with Vibration Reduction (VR) offers exceptionally low light photographic opportunities with a bright viewfinder image. AF-On, AF-L and Focus Pre-set functions can be controlled using buttons on the lens body for improved auto-focus control, a feature that is also aided by the fast and quiet Silent Wave Motor (SWM). VR enables hand held shooting at up to three stops slower than an equivalent non-VR lens. Four ED glass elements, including one Super ED glass keep the lens length to a minimum and help to minimise aberrations for sharp high contrast results. Nikon HK-31 lens hood included. More

Best Uses

Comments about Nikon 200mm f2 G AF-S VR IF ED Lens:

You cannot zoom, it scares people, it drains battery, and it is heavy and precious as a piece of real estate...
Why bother?
200/2 seems sharper than ANY other Nikkor @ f/2. It appears to be the ultimate tele lens for handheld available light photography. It isolates the subject and/or stops motion like nothing else, its AF speed and accuracy is outstanding, and it seems to have a very good colour rendition.
I decided to go for a 200/2 as I had 80-200/2.8 and 85/1.4 AF-Ds (on a D700), and the 70-200 VR2 did not persuade at 2/3 of the price of a 200/2.
While I believe one can do 99% things with a 70-200 VR2 alone (indeed I find my 80-200 more practical for indoor occasions where I can use a flash), 200/2 is a fascinating lens.
P.S. DOF @ f/2 it is non-existent. And I like it that way.
