The Nikon 55-300mm f4.5-5.6 G AF-S DX VR Lens offers a 5.5x zoom range with focal lengths equivalent to 82.5mm to 450mm on DX format D-SLRs, enabling the user to really get up close and personal with distant subjects. Nikon's second-generation Vibration Reduction system delivers sharp results, even for hand-held telephoto shots. It is the perfect and obvious choice for a second lens alongside the standard 18-55mm kit lenses, enabling coverage of all subjects both near and far. The Nikon 55-300mm f4.5-5.6 G AF-S DX VR Lens' compact dimensions and lightweight construction make it an ideal choice for the compact D-SLR user. More

About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Comments about Nikon 55-300mm f4.5-5.6 G AF-S DX VR Lens:
I am a Hobbyist Photographer of many years but, at this point in time, on a restricted budget. My purchase of this lens was in the form of the "previous user" variety. Having brought from Wex before, I had great trust in their description, and care, of pre-used items. When it arrived, the 55-300 was just the type of lens I was after. Well packed, in fact over packed to some extent. The lens its self is reasonably heavy, but not overly heavy. It's carry pouch is, to be honest, fairly pointless. As is the lens hood. I really don't like this small part. The AF can sometimes be on the slow side, but not to the detriment of the overall photographic experience, in my opinion (other AF lenses I have tried have also "struggled" with focusing in similar circumstances).
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

lighter weight zoom lense
Great reduced weight, but of course, the quality is not to be compared with my previous zoom lense which was twice the price, almost twice the weight, and twice the quality!! However, it is great for it's price.

Can be good used correctly
Cheaper Nikon lens, but can turn out some nice pictures. Clearly if you can afford better then do so. I have have in my collection this lens my cheapest, and one costing well over a grand and yes you can tell.I also have a mid range lens and it is really sharp, so you dont need the most expensive to get good shots.I would recomend to a friend but would say spend more if you can, if not then you could do worse than this lens.

Nikon 55-300mm f4.5-5.6 G AF-S DX VR Len
By Rob in West Yorks
I've recently upgraded to the Nikon d300s and needed a suitable zoom lens. Having read the reviews, I selected this 55-300. I like the size and weight plus the VR capability as I tend to shoot in 'shaky' situations. My only negative is that the auto focus is slower than I expected but apart from that, the lens fits my needs. I chose Nikon for quality and reliability - so far, so good. [...]

Does exactly as it says. Excellent Lens.
from Chester UK
[...] Bought lens because I wanted a little more reach than the excellent 55-200VR that was a great lens but this is much more with having the extra 100mm. I had looked at the new 28-300mm VR but the weight put me off so this why I went for the 55-300mm plus the price is reasonable. I have taken a few photos with it and am very happy with the lens, I use a Nikon 28-105mm D lens as my general walk round and 55-300 with the VR and extra reach will help me to achieve what I am wanting in the photos. Close up or wide this is an excellent lens to add to your kit, it`s quite light at 530g it`s slightly longer than the 55-200mm but it balances nicely on the D90 camera. If you are in the market for this lens then you will not be disappointed, give it a try, I did and I don`t regret it. Just an excellent all round lens.
