The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8G ED VR II lens offers re-designed optics for exceptional image quality and increased Vibration Reduction capability. The VRII technology enables photographers to shoot at shutter speeds up to 3.5 stops slower than would otherwise be possible. The lens can be used in one of two modes: Normal for everyday shooting; and Active, which minimises vibration. More
VR = Vibration Reduction
A Nikon in-lens technology that improves image stability by automatically compensating for camera shake. Lenses that offer VR will feature the abbreviation VR on the lens barrel.
SWM = Silent Wave Motor
AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor, which represents a significant advance in AF lens technology.
ED = Extra-Low Dispersion Glass
An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.
M/A = Manual/Automatic
Select NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens.
IF = Internal Focusing System
A NIKKOR lens in which only the internal lens group shifts during focusing. Thus, IF NIKKORS do not change in size during AF operation, allowing for compact, lightweight lenses capable of closer focusing distances. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel.
N = Nano Crystal Coat
An anti-reflective coating developed by Nikon that virtually eliminates internal lens element reflections across a wide range of wavelengths. Nano Crystal Coat solves ghost effects caused by red light and effectively reduces ghost and flare caused by light entering the lens diagonally.
A-M = Auto-Manual Mode
Thanks to a mechanism incorporated in the lens barrel, smooth focusing operation in Manual focus mode is realized in the same way as users have become accustomed to with conventional manual-focus lenses by adding an appropriate torque to the focus ring.

In a word........Stunning.
from West Yorkshire.
Absolutely love this lens.I thought it was fantastic on a D200.......but having recently upgraded to a D810 it is even better.Solidly built and very quick focusing. The only downside is its weight but that has to be expected for a lens of this type.VR is as good as advertised. I find I can hand hold it down to 1/30 th of a second at 200 mm and still get pin sharp images.Image quality still amazing when using a 1.7 converter.

Great Lens wow!

Fantastic lens. The quality is breathtaking. I happy that I have taken the plunge to buy this lens. Portraits of my daughter are sharp with great detail. Great investment. I now agree that a photographer should always upgrade lenses over camera bodies.

Tack sharp, fast focus, I love it.

This is the first Pro Lens I have purchased. The first thing i noticed when using it, is how fast it focuses and its clarity. This is a recent purchase, so haven't used it much as yet. I bought it for sports, landscape and portraits.Its expensive, I waited until Nikon ran their cash back offer to buy it.

High image quality, great build quality and works very well with a suitable teleconverter. Used it recently with 1.4x to photograph the Tour De Yorkshire.It is expensive, but better value if you can pick it up on offer.

Great versatile walkabout lens
Excellent bit of glass

I'm not a professional photographer and i don't pretend to be all knowledgeable in the manufacture and construction of lenses. what i do like is consistency in quality and this lens gives it. Yes it may be on the heavy side but the use of tripods and monopods overcome this irritation. this lens is a quality item that gives consistently good results. need i say more.
This lens is branded with Nikon's Nano Crystal Coating (N), and this certainly doesn't fail to deliver on optical quality. The autofocus is fast and sharp, ideal for wildlife and sports photographers, whilst also being versatile in a portrait style too. I was considering the Nikon 70-300mm, however was convinced to get the f2.8 70-200mm as quality was higher on my list than focal length. I am shooting on a high-end DX body, and cannot fault this lens in any way. The only thing I can put it down on would be weight, but then again, I opted for the f2.8 version over the f4! Having said that, you soon become accustomed with the weight. The first outing I used this lens on was at an air show, and was thoroughly impressed, no regrets.
