The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8G ED VR II lens offers re-designed optics for exceptional image quality and increased Vibration Reduction capability. The VRII technology enables photographers to shoot at shutter speeds up to four stops slower than would otherwise be possible (as determined by Nikon performance tests). The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8G ED VR II lens can be used in one of two modes: Normal for everyday shooting and Active, which minimises the vibration experienced when shooting aircraft for example. Both the Normal and the Active modes offer a stable viewfinder image, essential for making focus point acquisition and framing far more comfortable and precise. More
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8G ED VR II Lens
The new lens delivers corner to corner quality on FX cameras and the Nikon exclusive anti-reflection Nano Crystal coat, together with seven ED glass elements minimises internal reflections and aberrations, ultimately producing rich, high contrast images, no matter what lighting conditions you are shooting in.
There are three focus modes on the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8G ED VR II Lens; A/M; M/A and M. The new A/M switch enables autofocus priority even if the focus ring is being handled during shooting.
The newly designed optics of the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8G ED VR II lens allow shorter dimensions than the current version and don't compromise on the necessary durability. This lens is housed in a tough magnesium body and is extensively sealed to withstand the affects of dust, dirt and moisture.

worth the money and the weight
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Comments about Nikon 70-200mm AF-S Nikkor f2.8G ED VR II Lens:
I was a bit put off at first by the weight of it and the fact it is the lens not the camera that fits on the tripod. But the results make it all worth while. Fabulous pin-sharp images - even hand held. Definitely a good investment if you are serious about your photography
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Professionals must have
About Me Professional
This has to be a must have lens for anyone photographing wildlife, sport, action or general photography. This is a great option when a larger lens would take the image too close. This lens has joined my kit of lenses from 24mm right through to 600mm. I would highly recommend this lens as part of the photography kit of any photographer so that every photography situation can be covered with the right size of lens. F2.8 to F11 gives scalpel sharp results, even F16 upwards does not cause significant diffraction. This lens gives good bokeh in my opinion.
Workhorse of the range of lenses
I have most of the top pro lenses and judge every lens against them .This lens measures up we'll not quite as good as top primes but all zooms are not as good. As I make large prints this is more apparent anything up to A3 are fine As for general use the zoom range is perfect I always Cary it
VR 1 was good this is amazing

Amazing lens expensive but worth it and better value than Canon equivalent, one of the reasons I stayed with Nikon, heavy as the original VR1 version but so good its worth carrying about, very sharp !
This is a stunning lens, a tad heavy but worth it!

SHOULD BE EVERYONE'S 'NEXT' LENS!
The '80-200' has always been a very useful tool for any photographer to have in his armoury - and I rued the day I traded-in my old trombone-style f2.8 for the AF-S 70-200 VR1. It was my first VR lens... and almost my last as I was never happy at the results. Indeed, once I'd switched from a DX sensor to FX, I felt the VR1 couldn't give me the sort of images I demanded as pro. Nikon checked it and confirmed it was 'within tolerances' - so, with no DX sensor cameras left in the bag, I resigned the VR1 to the back of the studio, and rarely brought it out.So many protogs have told me how highly they rate the VRII version that I looked at taking the plunge - and after reading all the reviews on this site, I eventually did, with some trepidation, it has to be said.Well, I've had it for over a month, now, and it's in use all the time. Between f4 and f11 it is RAZOR sharp, and pretty good at the extreme apertures between 100 and 160mm focal lengths. Bokeh (background blur) is very smooth and pleasant, and the speed of focus is instant. Contrast is good, too. Yes, it's heavy... but it's a pro-grade f2.8, so what do you expect?!!!For me, however, it's helped me rediscover how useful this focal range is in a zoom - and with the quality of images it gets (on my D3/D3S bodies), I wouldn't dream of going on assigment without it now. The deal I got through WEX was unbelievably good - price wise and from a service standard - and if anyone is thinking of moving up from a 'kit' zoom or, indeed, going from the VR to the VRII, I can't recommend it enough. For anyone serious about getting top-quality images across a broad range, the 70-200 f2.8 VRII should really be the next lens they invest in. I'm so glad I did. To be honest, I now wish I made the move much sooner... but you know what they say about hindsight!!!
A joy to use
Compared to cheaper makes or even cheaper comparable Nikon lenses, this is a bit on the heavy side. BUT that is simply because it is made very well and has a lot of glass in it. I almost always shoot using a tripod, but on occasions that isn't practicable you will probably notice the weight after a full day carrying this around your neck. BUT that is not different to the days of medium-format equipment. This lens is wonderfully crisp and if you shoot a point-light-source such as a spotlight or street lamp at night you will discover how beautifully it handles flare , producing crisp star bursts rather than the blobby fog of cheaper lenses.Focus is silent and very fast!
