The AF-S VR 70-300 f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED is a high-performance super telephoto zoom lens that has been designed to meet the demands of both digital and 35mm format SLR users. It offers a 4.3x zoom with a range of 70-300mm (105-450mm on a DX Nikon D-SLR) and features ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements that ensure superior optical performance. This lens incorporates Nikon's second-generation vibration reduction system (VR II) that allows flexible hand-held shooting by stabilizing the image to the equivalent extent of using a shutter speed that is four stops faster when compared with a conventional lens (as determined by Nikon performance test). The SWM (Silent Wave Motor) and IF (Internal Focusing) ensure fast and quiet focusing action, and the nine-blade rounded diaphragm makes out-of-focus elements blend smoothly to produce natural-looking, harmonious backgrounds. Nikon HB-36 lens hood included. More

OK, but nothing special
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Comments about Nikon 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 G AF-S VR IF-ED Lens:
Just sold this lens, as was unhappy with the softness after 200mm, and this is on a D7200, probably worse on full frame body.It did focus well and up to 200, was OK, I used 1/3 crop and kept below 200 and got good pics. I've now ordered the Tamron as I borrowed one and it was superior in IQ, lower distortion, just the VC a bit clunky (like my 90 macro) but I'll put up with that for better IQ and usability.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Very good value
By Jeannie B
Fits easily on to my D5200, on the limit of what could be considered suitable without a tripod.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Excellent image quality; superb reach with DX format
It gives me 450mm on the D7100 which is great for wildlife photography. It also makes me future-proof should I ever switch to FX. A really good lens for the money for the serious hobbyist.
I would recommend this lens to anyone
I use this lens for motorsport and wildlife photography

About Me Professional
This Nikon 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 G AF-S VR IF-ED Lens in comparison to other lenses of same range and focal length is far superior. The cost of the lens is well justified and is a great all round lens.

"For the bigger picture"
from Caister on Sea, Norfolk
Purchased for my Nikon D3200, mainly for wildlife photography, this lens lives up to expectations. It is not unduly heavy for the spec & represents good value for money. I particularly like the Active/Auto Focus feature. My rating may well increase to 5-star after more comprehensive use on a forthcoming holiday to the Farne Islands.

Excellent performance and build quality
from West Midlands
I purchased this lens to use with a Nikon 1 V2 camera with the FT-1 adapter. Having previously used only Canon lenses I was surprised at the solid build quality of this lens and how well it performs with the V2. Focussing is fast and accurate and the VR is excellent. One thing I like about this lens is that as it is zoomed the inner barrel doesn't extend too far and it is almost the same diameter as the outer barrel. Also the lens comes with a lens hood and a soft pouch which other manufacturers expect you to pay for.
