The AF-S VR 70-300 f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED is a high-performance super telephoto zoom lens that has been designed to meet the demands of both digital and 35mm format SLR users. It offers a 4.3x zoom with a range of 70-300mm (105-450mm on a DX Nikon D-SLR) and features ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements that ensure superior optical performance. This lens incorporates Nikon’s second-generation vibration reduction system (VR II) that allows flexible hand-held shooting by stabilizing the image to the equivalent extent of using a shutter speed that is four stops faster when compared with a conventional lens (as determined by Nikon performance test). The SWM (Silent Wave Motor) and IF (Internal Focusing) ensure fast and quiet focusing action, and the nine-blade rounded diaphragm makes out-of-focus elements blend smoothly to produce natural-looking, harmonious backgrounds. Nikon HB-36 lens hood included. More

"For the bigger picture"
from Caister on Sea, Norfolk
Purchased for my Nikon D3200, mainly for wildlife photography, this lens lives up to expectations. It is not unduly heavy for the spec & represents good value for money. I particularly like the Active/Auto Focus feature. My rating may well increase to 5-star after more comprehensive use on a forthcoming holiday to the Farne Islands.

Excellent performance and build quality
from West Midlands
I purchased this lens to use with a Nikon 1 V2 camera with the FT-1 adapter. Having previously used only Canon lenses I was surprised at the solid build quality of this lens and how well it performs with the V2. Focussing is fast and accurate and the VR is excellent. One thing I like about this lens is that as it is zoomed the inner barrel doesn't extend too far and it is almost the same diameter as the outer barrel. Also the lens comes with a lens hood and a soft pouch which other manufacturers expect you to pay for.
Sharp and Fast Lens
About Me Casual user
Having upgraded from a non-stabilised 70-300mm Tamron lens, this has been a great upgrade. The autofocus is quick and accurate and the output is consistently sharp as long as the available light is reasonable. Would recommend.

An excellent lens to have in your kit
Bought this lens to supplement the smaller zoom lenses I have. It is ideal for the occasions when that extra focal length is needed, e.g. motor sport, air shows, wildlife

Nikon 70-300 vr
Bought this lens for my wife, she can handhold easily as it's not too heavy. Sharp, even at full zoom. Good value at the price.

Knowing how to use it is the key
from Scottish Borders
I've had this lens now for around 10 months or so and wasn't too impressed with it for most of that time but only recently I read an article about Vibration Reduction on Nikon lenses which said that using the lens with VR switched on at shutter speeds over 1/500th of a second actually degrades the image quality. I had always had the VR turned on unless using a tripod but after reading that article I started using the lens with the VR off and what an unbelievable difference in sharpness. Not only that but I have found that 1/500th of a second isn't the cut off point either, the VR only really comes into play at much slower shutter speeds than that. Nikon do not mention any of this in the manual by the way, it was an independent article
Perfect supplement to 16-85 Zoom
from Saxmundham, Suffolk
As long as I don't need to get closer than the 4-5ft minimum focus distance, this lens is perfect for stalking less easily approachable wildlife subjects; useful also at airshows.
Included Accessories: Lens Case 1022, Lens Cap LF-1, Lens Hood HB-36.
