I have upgraded from Capture NX1 which would not process my new camera files (D300s). NX2 handles all my needs well, but my RAW files are so big now that it shows up the lack of processor/disk performance on my Windows XP system. So I have to wait several seconds for it do each step of an exposure compensation, for example, whereas NX1 did it (on smaller files) instantaneously. The answer, obviously is to upgrade my PC to run the software faster.

This is a wonderful bit of software for photographers and, in particular, Nikon camera users. It is great for making quick, easy and non-destructive edits (particularly if you use NEF RAW) and it understands Nikon NEF RAW data like no other software. It doesn't have an endless mass of options like Photoshop but what it does have are powerful and easy to use. All edits are stored in the NEF file with virtually no increase in file size and you can go back to the original with a click of a button.

On the downside it is slightly clunky (it doesn't have the slickness or complexity of Adobe software) and doesn't work with RAW data from any other camera (TIFF & JPEG files from any source are fine).

Use it as an external editor from Lightroom or Aperture and you will get the best of all worlds - I use Lightroom to keep track of my photo library, Capture NX for RAW conversion and primary editing and only use Photoshop if there are particularly complex edits.

Lastly I've been using v1 since they launched it. Now that I've started using v2 I'm kicking myself for not upgrading sooner - the interface is slightly slicker, the heal tool is great for correcting minor issues, dual monitor support and speed.

The extra featureof the clone / repair tool are worth the upgrade alone, something that was sadly lacking in NX1, the workflow is similar to NX1 but flows smoother so it does not take long to get used to it.
