The Nikon Coolpix P7700 sits in the gap between point and shoot cameras and digital SLRs, offering you full manual control and stunning picture quality in a portable body that’s easy to use. The 7.1x (28-200mm) zoom lens with fast f/2.0-4.0 aperture enables beautifully sharp and vivid images in low light and provides a soft, natural background blur. The P7700 pacts a highly sensitive back-illuminated 12MP CMOS sensor and a fast EXPEED C2 image processing system, which enhances image quality in both movie recording and stills, and delivers superb sensitivity performance with reduced noise, even at high ISO. The handy vari-angle 3.0-inch 921k-dot monitor allows you to take creative shots from a variety of unique angles that you once may not have been able to do before with a fixed screen. For example low to the ground and high up above the crowd shots. More features include RAW shooting, manual control, high ISO from 80-6400, full HD 1080p recording, continuous shooting and a handful of fun effects and filters. More
January 2013 - With a camera as highly specified as the P7700 it is easy to forget about the most important aspect of all, image quality. To say I was impressed is an understatement, the P7700 produces wonderful files with beautifully contrasted images and sharpness that I would see no problem printing and blowing up to an A3 size print. Bright lens: capture beautifully sharp, richly colored images thanks to the versatile NIKKOR 7.1x zoom lens with broad 28–200mm focal range and fast f/2.0-4.0 aperture.
Large 1/1.7-inch, 12-MP CMOS sensor: the highly sensitive back-illuminated sensor works with the bright NIKKOR lens to deliver clear, detailed images in any light.
Vari-angle monitor: shoot from any angle with the 7.5 cm (3.0-in.) 921k-dot monitor with wide viewing angle and anti-reflective coating. Offers 100% RGB color reproduction and high contrast ratio.
Fast EXPEED C2 image processing system provides enhanced image quality and movie recording, and delivers superb sensitivity performance with reduced noise, even at high ISO.
Full HD (1080p) movie recording with stereo sound: control settings like aperture and ISO in Custom Movie mode. You can use the optical zoom when filming, and the camera has an external microphone input.
Lens-shift VR: Nikon’s advanced vibration reduction system reduces the effect of camera shake in real time and lets you use shutter speeds that are up to four stops slower.
High ISO sensitivity (extendable up to 6400, equivalent): reduces the risk of blurred images caused by fast-moving subjects or low light. ISO can be set manually from 80 to 6400 ISO equivalent using the Hi1 setting.
Quick response for streamlined workflow and stress-free shooting. Switch quickly between functions, and enjoy a near-instant start-up, impressive AF speed and short shutter release time-lag.
Advanced Nikon lens technology ensures outstanding precision, sharp resolution and high contrast. Two ED glass elements minimize chromatic aberration, a Neutral Density filter enables greater exposure control and the seven blade rounded iris aperture allows beautifully natural background blur.
Total control: PSAM exposure modes enable greater creative control. Three user modes let you recall your preferred camera settings instantly. Two Customizable function buttons let you bypass the menu and set shortcuts to your favorite camera settings.
Front and rear command dials: offer easy access to key camera settings and smooth manual control.
RAW format shooting: images can be shot and saved in high-quality NRW format, even when using in-camera features such as continuous shooting and Picture Controls.
Picture controls: take control of color in your photos and movies. Adjust the vividness of colors or degree of focus prior to shooting in all four (P/S/A/M) exposure modes. Two custom picture controls let you bypass the menu and set shortcuts to your favorite settings.
Flexible high-speed continuous shooting: choose from three different Continuous mode rates of 8 fps (for up to approx. 6 frames), 4 fps (for up to approx. 6 frames) and 1 fps (for up to approx. 30 frames).
Effects and filters: shoot photos and movies with special effects, or apply a filter to photos you’ve taken. Effects include Painting, which makes images look as if they were painted. Filters include Selective Color, which creates monochrome photos with flashes of color applied to the color of your choice.
The right light: equipped with a built-in pop-up flash with commander function and compatible with the Nikon Creative Lighting System, you can use multiple wireless flash units to emphasize subjects by manipulating light and shadow.
Wireless transfer: compatible with Eye-Fi X2 (or later) cards for direct transmission to smart phones and SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards.
Compatible accessories: get the most out of your shooting with Nikon accessories including Speedlight flash units, the ML-L3 remote control for remote shutter release, 40.5 mm filters, the MC-DC2 Remote Cord and the GP-1 GPS unit.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix P7700 Black Digital Camera:
This prosumer, top of the range Coolpix should not put off beginners from buying as it takes absolutely stunning photos in full Auto setting. You can then explore the vast range of settings with experience and customise it to enhance and ease your use. It has a brilliant fast and bright zoom lens and a fully articulated swivel rear viewer to die for. This screen does away with the need for a viewfinder. I love both the auto focus and VR options. Although weighing in at less than 1 pound, it would put many heavier and more expensive DSLRs to shame. With a few compromises, this camera might well meet all your photographic needs.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Good product, an improvement

A camera to take out when taking a DSLR is not practical or convenient, as a second camera. It takes short videos, which my D300 does not.

New Nikon !!!
I use the P7700 when I dont want to carry My D300sThe controls are similar and not difficult to adjust to. Ideal for family occasions etc when casual shots are required but knowing that the picture quality is good.Only minor thing is that is is a little larger than average "pocket" cameras, but there is a lot in it !!

About Me Semi-pro Photographer
I bought this to replace the P7000 which had issue. This does not. The lens is superb, the build is great. It's a photographers camera, I love dialling +/- exposure on the go. It has CLS built in! I've used it with a hand held SB800 on the beach with my kids, no missed flash and stunning exposure every time. It's great with higher ISO as well. It still isn't as fast as a DSLR and it would be great to have a manual focus and apature ring, but you can't have everything.
