The launch of the much-anticipated Nikon D800 Digital SLR includes the special edition D800E, designed for photographers who require the sharpest images possible, which is achieved by removing anti-aliasing properties from the optical filter. Apart from the modified filter, the D800E boasts the same astonishing specifications as the D800 - 36.3 megapixels in a full-frame (FX) format, and many of the crowd-pleasing features of the recently launched flagship D4 digital SLR camera. Like the D800, the Nikon D800E also features the same newly developed CMOS sensor with an area of 35.9 x 24mm, a standard ISO range of 100-6400 (expandable to a range of 50-25600), the Nikon 51-point advanced AF system, continuous shooting up to 4fps (or up to 6fps when using DX Crop mode), as well as the exciting addition of full 1080p HD movie recording, including many of the revolutionary new video features found in the D4 such as a clean HDMI output. Stunning image quality
About Me Photo Enthusiast
Comments about Nikon D800E Digital SLR Camera Body:
Great image quality. A step up from the D700 in terms of resolution and dynamic range. Pity the battery compartment door is so flimsy; already had to replace mine in the first few weeks. But still a great product. Love the built in 4:5 crop. Just make sure your computer is up to handling the large raw file sizes.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

If you can find one.... Buy it

Having used D3/700 for last 3 years the D800E offers a huge step forward. The high ISO capability is surprisingly good and image quality is stunning. I don't have scientific tests etc, just real world use shows how good it is.Downsides..needs grip for extra controls as per D3/4. My PC isn't up to processing the files and a new i7 with 8gb RAM and decent graphics card was needed. CS4 won't update to convert RAW files from the 800 so CS5 or 6 is required. Average RAW file is 45mb and converted jpeg is 21mb. ONLY buy the memory cards that NIKON recommend as others will not work. I have both Sandisk Extreme Pro and Lexar Pro which work fine.Have seen comments on net that D800 is flimsy and won't last etc etc. I don't agree with this at all. Mine has already been out in the rain and is fine, just as the D3 is. I really can't think of anything bad to say about the D800E, just think before you buy one, is your PC / Mac up to it or will that be another expense ? Other than that, find one, buy it and happy shooting

About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
[...] I have used Nikon for a number of years eg FA and wanted to be able to use AI lenses reasonably easily. Quite like complex equipment and AF controls and use still difficult for me even with simple Nikon AF lens. Not used movie mode yet and did not buy it for this. I do like enlarging parts of a picture (don't get close enough!) and this machine seems to be allowing me to do this better than other digital cameras I have used. I use flash synch socket a lot. I have not mastered use of two cards. Still cant work out where photo is going to. Not been successful with RAW yet need correct interpretive software. White paper still comes out pink but this due to mistake on my part. Mention this only because needs time to understand long instruction manual. In summary it is doing what I bought it for with a variety of old lenses.

Quite a camera!
I bought the camera for my landscape and travel photography. However, a few days ago I ended up taking some photographs of kayakers on some rapids. I was stunned by its ability to follow the action with virtually all of the images, taken at near the maximum aperture of my 70-200 f2.8 Nikon VR lens, being exceptionally sharp.Note: I have yet to see a single example of moiré!

At 36 MP this is the highest resolution presently available in a DSLR and it shows. This resolution is matched by low noise and great dynamic range resulting in incredible image quality. All of this comes in a relatively compact and light weight body compared to other full frame bodies.Having previously used a Nikon D3s and a D3x I am in no doubt that for the vast majority of amateur users the D800e (or the D800) is far and away the better choice. The D800/D800E takes many of it's features from the Nikon professional range and as a result can appear a little daunting initially due to the vast array of options offered. New users should not be put off however - time spent setting the camera up is time well spent and will be rewarded many times over.
