Apart from the modified filter, the D800E boasts the same astonishing specifications as the D800 - 36.3 megapixels in a full-frame (FX) format, and many of the crowd-pleasing features of the recently launched flagship D4 digital SLR camera. At 36 MP this is the highest resolution presently available in a DSLR and it shows. This resolution is matched by low noise and great dynamic range resulting in incredible image quality. All of this comes in a relatively compact and light weight body compared to other full frame bodies.

Having previously used a Nikon D3s and a D3x I am in no doubt that for the vast majority of amateur users the D800e (or the D800) is far and away the better choice.

The D800/D800E takes many of it's features from the Nikon professional range and as a result can appear a little daunting initially due to the vast array of options offered. New users should not be put off however - time spent setting the camera up is time well spent and will be rewarded many times over.
