Nikon D90 - 12.3 megapixel DX format CMOS image sensor
The Nikon D90 digital SLR features a 12.3 megapixel sensor which enables you to capture excellent, highly detailed images, which produce stunningly sharp enlargements. The built-in self-cleaning system on the D90 minimises the harmful effects of dust.

Nikon D90 - EXPEED Processing system + high ISO
The EXPEED processing system on the Nikon D90 delivers optimum performance and maximum image quality. The high ISO range of 200-3200 is extendable up to 6400 and down to 100, enabling fast shutter speeds and significantly reducing the risk of blurred images when shooting fast-moving subjects or taking pictures in low-light with your digital SLR.

Nikon D90 - Active D-Lighting
The Nikon D90 features Active D-Lighting, which ensures that every detail in both highlight and shadow is retained, producing beautiful images with excellent natural contrast. Active D-Lighting can be activated manually or automatically and features four levels, including Extra High.

Nikon D90 - Picture Controls and Scene Recognition System
Using the Standard, Vivid, Neutral, Monochrome, Portrait and Landscape Picture Controls, you can customise the look of your photos, whilst the Scene Recognition System with Face Detection System combines data from the camera's metering and AF sensors to deliver precise exposures and sharply-defined images. The Nikon D90 digital SLR recognises human faces for portraits or group shots and delivers natural-looking skin tones.

Nikon D90 - Advanced autofocus performance
The Nikon D90 digital SLR offers advanced autofocus performance with versatile Multi-CAM100 11-point AF system. This system produces fast and precise autofocus coverage across the frame. AF-area modes handle most shooting situations and include 3D-tracking AF, which lets you adjust the composition of an image after focusing on your subject.

Nikon D90 - Live View mode with Autofocus
Live View on the Nikon D90 digital SLR enables you to compose your images via the LCD screen. Live View supports three AF modes; Face Priority AF for portraits (this function detects up to 5 faces in a frame), wide area AF for handheld shots, and normal area AF for shots with a tripod.

Nikon D90 - Innovative D-Movie function
The exciting D-Movie function on the Nikon D90 digital SLR enables DSLR users to shoot Motion JPEG format movies. The Nikon D90 offers a large image sensor (when compared to that of a typical consumer camcorder) and high-ISO sensitivity, resulting in exceptional image quality. The Nikon D90 enables photographers to use photographic techniques in making movies, using the wide range of NIKKOR interchangeable lenses, from fisheye to wide-angle to super-telephoto, and even extreme close-up with Micro NIKKOR lenses. The D-Movie function of the Nikon D90 digital SLR allows users to shoot 5 minutes of HD quality video, or up to 20 minutes of standard definition (SD) video. Note: Autofocus is not available when recording movies.

Check out the following link for an example of what the fantastic D-Movie function on the Nikon D90 digital SLR can do: Nikon D90 Sample Video

Nikon D90 - Advanced Scene Modes
Using the advanced Nikon D90 scene modes you can automatically optimise camera settings, including the Picture Controls and active D-Lighting, for popular photographic styles, effects and locations.

Nikon D90 - High resolution 3" LCD monitor + bright pentaprism viewfinder
The Nikon D90 features a 3", 920k-dot, high-resolution LCD monitor with 170-degree viewing angle. It has never been easier to use and view the Live View function. The bright pentaprism viewfinder on the Nikon D90 gives 96% frame coverage and 19.5mm eye point for precise composition.

Nikon D90 - Quick response
The Nikon D90 digital SLR offers an approximate start-up time of 0.15-seconds, a 65-millisecond shutter release time lag and 4.5 frames per second, on the Normal-Large image setting, using a Panasonic Pro HIGH SPEED 2GB SD memory card.

Nikon D90 - Revolutionary retouching
The Nikon D90 features an extensive Retouch Menu, which offers a range of photo effects, including Fisheye, Distortion Control and Straighten. The original image stays intact and the digital SLR camera quickly and simply creates a duplicate image for you to edit and enhance in the camera.

Nikon D90 - Extensive playback functions
The Nikon D90 includes extensive playback functions such as Pictmotion built-in slideshow, a 72-frame thumbnail display, calendar playback and a histogram display that offers histograms of magnified sections of an image.

Having had a Nikon D100 for a number of years which is so simple to use i found this a little complicated to start with, but now I have got used to it and understand it, its a great piece of equipment if you cant afford the D300 etc.

Comments about Nikon D90 Digital SLR Camera Body:

We purchased this recently for our students for their photography club. For my own photographic work I use a D700 but we needed a DX format Nikon body for Gigapan panoramic photography. Even though the market offers newer and larger sensors (D3200, D5100 etc.) for a similar price (as opposed to the next price bracket up of the D7000 / D5200 / D300s) I opted for the far better layout of the D90 with its button & dial-centred controls. Teaching students to learn photography intuitively would not be best helped by the more menu-driven controls of the 3200 & 5100. Also, the D90's 12.3 megapixel sensor, with its relatively large photosites, works very well for panoramic photography, resolving a good level of detail within a manageable file size for further manipulation and stitching.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Nikon D90 Digital SLR Camera Body:

Bought this as alternative to my D3s and D700.
It's great for taking on walks or anywhere if you want to travel light yet have more than a point and shoot camera.
I particularly like having the two control dials and top plate display. I tried the D3100 but found it just too basic and fiddly as I'm used to the larger cameras.
I think this gives the best of both worlds.

Comments about Nikon D90 Digital SLR Camera Body:

I don't own a D90 but have borrowed one and used it prior to making a decision to switch from my Sony a700 system to a Nikon / Canon. In the end I chose a Canon 50D, which seems more rugged and better made than the D90, and offers similar features.

The D90 is an excellent camera, one of the very best on the market. It handles extremely well and is lighter and more compact than the 50D.

My advice would be to try out various models from Canon, Nikon and Sony in a shop, or at a camera club before deciding what to buy. The camera with the best specification on paper might not be the best camera once you get it into your hands and start playing with menus, viewfinders and controls.

When you've decided which camera is best for you, get it from Warehouse Express - they are simply the best on-line photographic dealer.

Comments about Nikon D90 Digital SLR Camera Body:

If you are in the market for new camera then you have probably read all the reviews.
However, this is what I have to say from my perspective.

If you are undecided between an D300s and D90 then consider this; will the extra size/weight of the D300s justify the slight increase in picture quality?

There is no doubt that the D300s is a great camera and I would love to have the slightly better image quality at high ISO. However the D90 produces excellent images, I am happy to shoot weddings at ISO1600. at the lower ISO range then you will find it hard to beet the D90 in the APS-C format.
The advantages of the D90 are the size and weight which make it a much more versatile camera. The extra cash that you save can be spent on a decent lens. I would recommend the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8

If you are an intermediate then buying the D300s won't make you a better photographer just more reluctant to take it with you.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Nikon D90 Digital SLR Camera Body:

I bought the D90 as a second camera. I have a S5 Pro (Fuji) and I researched heavily and eventually plumped for the D90, and I'm very glad that I did. Well main reason was that both S5Pro and D90 are capable of using the Nikon SB900 flash gun that I have. D90 is an extremely well built body, flash sync is great as I do lots of flash photography and this camera has a wealth of functions that allows one to be very creative.

Overall, I would say that this was an extreme great camera which gives gorgeous image quality. Strongly recommend it.

Comments about Nikon D90 Digital SLR Camera Body:

I bought the D90 as an upgrade to my rather ageing 2nd hand D70 which I bought from a rather well known auction site...

As a bit of background, the D70 was a fantastic beginner's DSLR and was the first one I've owned, it's a great little performer and I was highly satisfied by everything except noise levels at high ISO and potential print size.

So time to upgrade, I reasearched this heavily and eventually plumped for the D90, and I'm very glad that I did. Clearly, it has twice the pixel the D70 was endowed with, and sports a native ISO 3200 mode expandable to ISO6400 equivalent.

What it also has is a very rugged, well built body, flash sync down to 1/4000sec (yes, I do mean 1/4000, not 1/400) when used with a Nikon Speedlight. There's also a whole world of other creative possibilities when you add in the creative functions available through the menus and the video (not that I use that much...).

The only reason I've only given 4 stars for image quality is that ISO 6400 does not really give usable pics unless you're looking for a very stylised B&W conversion and don't mind a decent amount of grain. Although saying that, if you're only printing at 7"x5" or below, it does seem to be fairly acceptable.

The reason that I have 4 stars on the autofocus is that it does not function in video mode. So if you're not looking to do much with the videos, then it is as near a perfect system as I have come across. Clearly it still won't autofocus in the dark though... I use it with a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 and the Sigma 50-200mm f3.5-5.6 OS and autofocus with both these lenses in adequate lighting is quick, quiet, and accurate. Just what you need.

Overall, I would say that this was a very well rounded camera which gives gorgeous image quality (especially if you convert from RAW rather than use JPG. It's worth it!) and highly acceptable low light performance if you don't have the spare cash to buy a D3S...

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Nikon D90 Digital SLR Camera Body:

The image quality, noise control, and exposure nearly make this camera one of the best on the market. It is lighter than the D300 and slightly smaller. Not as sturdy as the d300/fuji s5 but good enough for most jobs.
White balance is great in auto under natural light but under tungsten I feel the Fuji wins hands down.

Menu is rather fiddly with to many variations and picture modes. But find a settings your happy with and stick with it and you shouldnt need to touch the menu again.

Not sure why nikon went down the SD card route with this camera but most media is cheap these days. Battery life is amazing, I took 860 stills and ten minutes of video on a single charge.

The 3in display is superb for focusing in live view and very sharp. Movie mode is a great feature. I was worried about the 5 minute capacity but later found that this was misleading.

Basically you are limited to 5 mins continous recording per file, not 5mins per card. Once the 5mins is up you can just press record again and continue recording. They do say however that after an hour of continous recording in live view the sensor can become to hot and stop recording. I guess to prevent any damage to the sensor.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Nikon D90 Digital SLR Camera Body:

As a pro photographer I get equipment alerts from Nikon and as soon as I read the initial spec' of the D90 I had to have one. The ability to shoot video was the overriding factor. My D2Xs is the work horse and this D90 is one of several, inexpensive, back-up bodies.
But what results! Having D3 range technology I was very surprised at picture quality and how the body functioned.
In tests, on the job, I have found the D90 focus system an improvement over the D2 in some situations. When the RAW images (don't shoot anything other than RAW) are imported into NX2 I can achieve all that I can with D2 RAW. I have read that users are unhappy with the cameras sharpening... Don't use it. Never sharpen in the camera always add it, if you have to, to the image at the time of processing in NX2 and then only just before printing.
Recently I had to shoot stills for a client and the 'crime prevention' subject matter lent itself to video to illustrate more than the stills would on their own.
I shot everything on the D90 and I am very happy with the results. The client got stills and a video, shot using three different lenses. All with the convenience of one body that copes brilliantly with exposure across a wide range of lighting conditions.
The D90 is perfect for photographers, amateur and pro alike, shooting the widest spectrum of subjects.

Comments about Nikon D90 Digital SLR Camera Body:

Used a Minolta A2 for 3 years or so - a great camera but decided it was time to upgrade to an SLR. The movie mode and review in magazines persuaded me that the D90 was the one. I was not disappointed.

I bought the D90 without kit lens and decided to get a Nikon 18-200 zoom as I read this was a "take everywhere" lens when you don't want to be burdened with a large bag.

The pictures are great and I'm thinking now about a wide-angle and prime macro to go with the 18-200.

Steep learning curve though but the auto modes work very well and enable great pics while you learn where all the bits and bobs are. The printed manual is useless but there are good replacemenst available from Amazon.

The movie mode is very basic and not a replacement for a dedicated movie camera, however it does come in useful at times.

Overall I would buy this camera again
