A worthwhile investment.

Comments about Nikon DK-17M Magnifying Eyepiece:
If you hanker after the larger viewfinders of yesteryear than this accessory helps you get close. Spectical wearers be aware that the very corners of the viewfinder can be "cut off" from your field of view. I have a number of old AIS lenses that I focus manually, this accessory helps make focusing easier.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

the best upgrade for very little money
About Me Casual user, Getting started
I had heard some good things about this product and thought i would take the plunge and try it out for myself. All i can say is 'what a difference'! It should come as standard on all slrs. The image through the view finder is clearer and certainly easier to manually focus on the target as the image presented to you is larger. Overall im really happy with this. The only con was installation was a bit fiddly.
A huge plus
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast, Semi Pro
I read some good reviews of these magnifying eyepieces and just had to try them. I bought two, one for each of my D700 and D800's. I ordered at the same time two DK-19 eyecups. They were very easy to fit, even though there are a lot of reviews that say the opposite. Follow Nikons instructions and there are no problems.I have found this combination a great success, and am only sorry I haven't discovered them earlier. There is not a huge magnification, but enough to be noticed and benefit from. I would recommend the DK-17M and DK-19 combo, as the eyecup really cuts out all distracting light and helps protect the viewfinder when your camera is not in use.
DK-M magnifying Eyepeice

I shoot mostly wedding and portraits on a Nikon D4, I bought this eye piece as I noticed that some of my shots were not focused dead on especially when using very shallow depth of field, this eye piece is superb and easy to fitThe magnification is only slight but makes a huge difference. Fully recommend this item
A little extra magnifiaction
About Me Professional
A well made and securely fitting design, which has provided a little extra magnification to the viewfinder image of my D800e. It does 'vignette' the displays a tiny bit, but they are still perfectly usable by moving your eye ever so slightly. The only con is that it sticks out a bit, especially with my DK-19 eyecup, so can catch on your bag / case, but just a minor niggle.
Feels like more than 1.2x

1.2x hardly seems worthwhile but the magnification seems much more in practice.I'd strongly recommend this, I use it with the rubber eyecup on my d800e
The best help in accurate focussing
Makes a huge difference in ease and accuracy of focusing. Indispensable.
Better view, but limited field of view.
from Downham Market
I love the larger view, but I've found I need to get my eye in the right position otherwise the view can be cut off. With the standard eye piece I could put my eye anywhere around the opening and see the whole view including the information area. With the DK-17M I often find I'm missing part of the view which can be distracting and could mess with my composition. I am leaving it on for now because the magnified view looks that great, and I'll be adding the Hoodman HoodEye to hopefully get better results.

Even though it only magnifies by 0.2x it does make a difference, but after a using a couple of times you dont notice it any more,(took it off to clean once then you notice it)..Some people find it a bit of a nuisance having to move eye position to view the lighting info at the bottom of screen, but it does not bother me at all..I do think it should be shipped with better instructions from nikon on application when using with the dk-19 eyecup, I had to use youtube to get it right.I personally would not reccomend it for people with spectacles as i dont think you could get your eye in close enough to view the screen info, and definately not if using eyecup also...It is well overpriced for what it is, but I suppose nikon know people like me will pay it.Otherwise it is a good useful well made product..
Works well but comes off a bit easy...
I recently added this to my new 1.5 magnifying viewfinder on my D700 and found it to be a great addition. Great for those with glasses but also very useable for those without. It can also be folded back on itself when not required which is handy. My only issue is that it can come off quite easily. My can was hanging by my side on a Sniper strap and when I went to use it the camera rubbing on my leg cause it to come off. That said the benefits outweigh the negative.
