Bought this excellent scope to help with weight problems when flying. But have been incredibly impressed with the quality; views of 2 kingfishers at Potteric Carr this weekend were superb.

Using it with the 13-40MCII zoom eyepiece. Colour, detail etc all excellent.

Increasing restrictions on hand luggage led to a need to have a small travel scope. Optically seems as good as many larger scopes from others. I bought the zoom but the 20wide is more enjoyable a view for spectacle wearers (my wife has one on her ED50A). Changing the focal length of the zoom is fiddly but if you put a 40mm trap washer (about a pound from B & Q) over the moving part it is much easier to grip.
If you've never looked through one of these you'd be amazed how good they are.

Excellent Scope

I purchased this scope with the 27x DS lens about a month ago and I'm extremely impressed. The combination is amazingly light. Considering the size of the objective lens the image is impressively bright, it is also sharp to the edge of the field of view. The scope works well even in relatively dull daylight conditions. When used for gull-watching I reckon to lose about 10 minutes of usable light compared to using a large (c. 80mm) scope. I have also tried digi-scoping using a Nikon 4500 and the Nikon adaptor, this works well enough to produce decent record shots, but the image quality doesn't equal the results that can be obtained with a large scope. All-in-all an excellent scope/eyepiece combination. (Although part of that could be down to me...) I use mine with a Slik PRO 330EZ tripod and the whole outfit only weights 100g more than my old tripod...

From the very first time I used my new ED50 I was totally impressed. It is a gtrea little scope.

I don't think you'll find a better product out there for the price that will match it's quality and ease of use.

I'd 100% recommend it to anyone who was looking for a first scope or an additional field scope.
