The Nikon PN-11 Auto Extension Tube provides 52.5mm of extension, and can be used with any Nikon SLR lenses longer than 50mm, or with a reversed 50mm lens (using a reverse adapter). Extension tubes are designed to enable a lens to focus closer than its normal set minimum focusing distance. Getting closer has the effect of magnifying your subject (making it appear larger in the viewfinder and in your pictures). They are exceptionally useful for macro photography, enabling you to convert almost any lens into a macro lens at a fraction of the cost while maintaining its original optical quality.

Comments about Nikon PN-11 Auto Extension Ring (52.5mm):

Used with an appropriate lens, the PN-11 reduces the minimum focus distance allowing you to get much closer and achieve a higher magnification ratio, without forking out on a longer focal length lens. I bought it for use with a Nikkor 105 mm f/2.8 AI-s micro, and it works exceptionally well. Magnification is increased from 1:2 to 1:0.88 with no loss of image quality. Images are tack sharp with no added aberration. Focussing is manual, but for macro work, manual focus is probably best anyway.

NOTE: It's not compatible with G-series lenses which have no apperture ring, allows for manual focus only, and will NOT give metering information to the following DSLRs:

D90, D80, D70, D70s, D50, D100,D5100, D5000, D3100, D3000, D60, D40, D40x.

It does allow full matrix metering, if the lens data is entered into the non-CPU lens menu with the following DSLRs:

D2, D3, D700, D300s, D300, D200, D7000
