Welcome addition to R1C1 Kit
About Me Photo Enthusiast
Comments about Nikon SB-R200 Compact Speedlight Flashgun:
Bought this as a natural expansion of the R1C1 Kit which is often publicised with 3 x SB-200s attached but actually includes just 2. The case supplied with the R1C1 has dedicated space for 3. My only quibble - that the SB-200 should ship with the extreme close-up adapter. I had to get another separately so that 3 x SB-200s can be used together in this mode.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The perfect tool for low key portraits
About Me Semi-pro Photographer
I recently discovered how to take 'low key portraits' with nothing more than a DSLR and an off camera flash.I was looking for a small off camera flash that I could use indoors for low key portraits and when travelling. The SB200R is just perfect for that. With a low guide number, there is less change for the light to actually reach the background. The SB200R works perfectly with a camera like the D7000, where you can set the built-in flash in commander mode. In commander mode, the built-in flash also fires but the burst can be blocked by using the Nikon SG-3IR (it blocks the flash burst, but not the infrared that is needed to fire the SB200R)The SB200R is easy to use. There is no display, but only simple dials to choose the channel and the group and that is all you need. It uses a single '123' battery (do not use the rechargeable ones because these don't work) and comes with a tripod mount and even three gels and a soft case.I have used the SB200R both indoors and outdoors for shooting low key portraits and the results are just perfect. If you are looking for an off camera flash as the main unit for portraits or as a secondary unit to an SB900 for example, this one is great. It can also be used as part of Nikon's creative kit, so you can always use it one way or another. Great value for money with the additional benefit of it being a small, lightweight unit that is perfect for travel. The only thing I would have preferred is a normal AA battery

About Me Pro Photographer
I bought the macro kit that has two of these flash units with it. It also has very useful gels and filters for white balancing with other lighting. I love the easy set up as groups with my SB900 which controls them beautifully. Macro work with hand held flashes works very well, if you have an assistant to hold and move the flashes around while you shoot they create a great variety of lighting affects...I love them!

Macro photography taken a stage further
I bought the Nikon R1C1 Macro lighting system, which is supplied with two SB-R200 speedlights (only), but the supplied case has space for a third unit. It is well worth investing in the third SB-R200, for even more lighting control.
Included Accessories: SZ-1 Colour Filter Holder; SJ-R200 Colour Filter Set; AS-20 Speedlight Stand; SS-R200 Case.
