    Nissin Di466

    By Photonut

    from Buckinghamshire

I have always had problems with flash photography and decided on this product from reading the reviews and information on this and other sites. I will use it mainly, but not exclusively for indoor work. It is light and easy to handle, fast to put onto the camera and although this is the first day, the experimental shots I have taken look promising.

Nissin Di466 panasonic Four Thirds Flash

    By Bobby

    from South Wales

I bought this flashgun for a friend to complement the pansonic fz100 as the panasonic guns are far to expensive. The flashgun is of great value it does everything the pannie guns can do at a fraction of the cost. It is made of very good quality materail and is very simple to use. there is nothing wrong in haveing such a simple back panel to work with when adjustments are required and with slave fuctions to boot at this price it is a must have flashgun. The only thing that i didn't give the five stars for was that when you use bounce function and you pull out the white reflector the diffuser must also be used at the same time as the one that i have dose not go back into the head. But this is nothing to complain about. Well done Nissin i would most definitely buy more nissin flashguns when needed.

    Check compatability

    By Dal1970

    from Essex

    Pros

    • Full manual control

    Cons

    • Not compatible with m 43

    Best Uses

Very disappointed, as I wanted to use this on my Panasonic G2 which is micro four thirds.

Only 2 options - forced flash (full power) or slow synch

Would not have thought there would be such a difference between four thirds and micro four thirds

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

      Very pleasantly surprised!

By Trying to more than point and shoot!

      from Nottingham

      Pros

      • Automatic motorised zoom
      • Build Quality
      • COMPACT SIZE
      • Great value
      • High GN 33 for size
      • Integrated bounch card
      • Manual and slave modes
      • Removable battery cradle

      Cons

      • GF1 uses camera AF beam
      • No horizontal swivel

      Best Uses

      • On micro four thirds

I wanted a small flashgun to improve upon my Panasonic GF1's inbuilt flash, which only has a GN of 6. I felt a large flashgun would look pretty stupid on the GF1 as it is quite a petite camera. I originally purchased a Metz 36 AF-5 (4/3s version), but when I tried it on the camera, I found I was unhappy with its size when mounted, disappointed at the lack of features (only offering TTL mode - it only had two buttons: power and pilot) and by its build quality, especially the battery compartment door which was a devil to close with batteries installed and felt like to was going to break in my hands.

The Nissin Di466, in comparison, is shorter than the Metz 36 (however, it is pretty chunky/stocky), it's approximately the same height as the smaller Metz 24 AF-1, the build quality is fantastic and the features available are great and very simple to use – I've never used a flash off a camera to provide creative lighting before, but have achieved pleasing results using the Di466's slave modes minutes after unpacking it for the first time, so it must be easy! It was also a relief to see the old fashioned tightening ring, which I prefer to the push in wedges - call me old fashioned! The automatic motorised zoom is another unexpected great feature as you don't need to remember to pull out the flashgun head – you just twist the zoom ring on the camera lens and the flash automatically zooms to the corresponding focal length. The Di466 is a little noisy on start-up and when zooming, but as still images don't capture sound this doesn't really matter in my opinion.

I'd never heard of the Nissin brand until I started looking for a flashgun that would fit on a micro four thirds camera, but now I've bought one would have no problem recommending the Di466 flashgun. Can you have your cake and eat it? Well, in my opinion of course, the Nissin has great build quality, extensive but simple features, a GN of 33, up to 90 degree bounce, and is compact. All it is missing is the ability to swivel through the horizontal axis. When you consider its price and the performance it offers for its size, in my opinion, not only you can have your cake and eat it, you can leave without paying too!

Please note: I've just an Average Joe consumer with no affiliation to any brand or camera trade - this is my honest opinion.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
