Offering a huge saving on the equivalent Nikon product, the Nissin Di866 has really impressed me so far. I haven't had a chance to take lots of pictures with it yet, but even in the daylight the flash has improved my indoor pics significantly. It is feature packed, and can have its firmware updated by a USB connection. The build quality is very reasonable, and the controls are menu driven via a colour display screen.

This is a well featured, powerful flash gun that comes in at a much more sensible price compared to the camera manufacturers' offerings. However it isn't perfect. First of all it has a plastic foot - I would prefer metal but given a choice I would also rather the flash breaks than my camera body! Also, the colour screen and menu system are a bit slow and clunky. I would prefer the old fashioned mono screen and buttons for quick use. The little front flash is a great idea but I have yet to master it.

Nice flash gun with a good guide number.

Some problems with it going to sleep when in remote mode (even with standby mode set to 60mins) - Nissin don't seem to be able to help, there are similar reports on the web, but not a show stopper (just switch on and then off.

Colour screen and rotating display window is more of a gimmick than of practical use. The fill in flash is to much of a pain to switch on.

Quick change battery compartment is neat.

No beep to say its re-cycled - really annoying!

At the price it's a winner compared to the others and offers a fairly easy to use and poweerful flashgun compared to Nikons own offerings!
